What if magic vanished?

In a society that relies heavily on magic, that would be the end of the word. Apocalyptic. Chaos would remain over the world, and whoever was strongest would survive.

Magic has been the core of Malia for centuries, since humans found out they were born with special gifts, they biased their society around it. Schools were taught by those gifted with knowledge of everything. Firefighters were made up of those who could control water and fire. Hospitals hired those gifted with healing. Mechanics were gifted with the knowledge of things that go. Every occupation on hires those with a gift for that occupation.

But suddenly, one day, the magic started vanishing. Slowly ebbing from the people. Teachers didn't understand what they were teaching, the firefighters could no longer stop the fires. The world was falling apart into chaos.

People started panicking g, raising stores, stealing money. No one knew how to survive in this world.

Where was the magic going?

(I have no character plots for this one)

Edith shifted nervously on the creaking, wooden porch in front of the cottage. Her hand, balled into a fist, was raised, suspended in the air about an inch away from the door.

Just knock, she told herself, but her body simply wouldn’t listen. It had been three months– three months – since she’d last seen the Elemyars. Her life had been swept up in the winds of change so suddenly, that she hadn’t had the time to see them or send letters. In the blink of an eye, days had gone by, and Edith felt terrible for her negligence. Now, she’d been released from her duties, and given a vacation period of one week. It only made sense to come by and seek forgiveness now that she had the time. But would they forgive her? Would they even want to see her? Would Alair want to see her

At that moment, Edith thought fondly of Alair, her greatest distraction, and her closest friend. It was a chance meeting. Edith was hurt, a young girl dealing with a curse she couldn’t control, and drowning in the pains of an unwanted orphan. She’d been on the search for her parents' vacant home, following the lead of a blurry memory. Imagine her surprise to find an elven boy, singing and dancing as though the trees were his audience. They clicked almost instantly and forged a bond that would see them through many years, despite a few bumps. The thought of his smile and the charm of his laughter helped to put her doubts to rest.

Edith, you can’t stand out here all evening.

She looked down at the brocade skirt of her royal blue dress, the tips of her fingers brushing along the flower etchings that rose from the hemline. A brand new dress, along with the heavy woolen cloak hanging on her shoulders, and the leather walking boots on her feet. Her hair was placed in a bun, crystalline pins decorating her black strands. Her lips were painted a soft pink and her skin was paler, less freckled from all her work indoors. Things had certainly changed for her, for the better no less. She could share her success with the people she cared for, the people she loved. A gesture of thanks for being there for her, for caring for her in her darkest moments. Edith looked at the pile of wrapped boxes set to the side of her and smiled. They would love the gifts she’d brought, even if they weren’t quite fond of her anymore.

Edith’s hand rapped against the door three times and then she waited.

“Mr. Elemyar! Mrs. Elemyar! It’s me, Edith!” she called before turning to the side and muttering. “Please open the door because this is where I’ll be staying for the week…”

((Is there anything in particular that you are looking for character-wise? A certain age range, social status, ability type?))

@RhysTheFirebird group

(Maybe on the poorer side or the richer side. The richer side comes with naturally stronger gufts, but nothing out of the ordinary due to no need to train as much to survive.)
(Someone of poorer status would have had the need to train to develop their inherently weaker gifts to make it more unique and survive living on the streets of to take care of their family. When I have more time, I can go I to more detail about the airlines and social standing in the world. For now just the name, age(18-25), gender, personality, likes and dislikes will work.)

@In_the_mud

((Alrighty! I have an idea forming, but I'll hold off until I get some more information))

Name: Althea Groves
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Height/Weight: 5'8"/ 165 lbs
Appearance: Brown, almond-shaped eyes, narrow nose, two-toned lips. She has beauty marks, one in the corner of her left eye and one on her eyelid. Her skin is a warm beige color, with some scars on her arms and legs, and one long one along her torso. Her hair is dark brown and straightened all the time, put back into a neat bun.
Personality: Thea has never had any issues in life, at least nothing she couldn't overcome, so she's very content. Silent and observant more often than not. She enjoys having a sense of understanding, whether it be in someone else or herself. She's also a perfectionist, feeling that if better is within her power, she will achieve that. She can easily obsess over things that don't make sense, but such things usually stay close to her.
Likes: Books, maps (she likes collecting them), spicy foods, alchemy studies, thunderstorms
Dislikes: Spiders, people who talk too much, parties, competition
Fears: Drowning. Being buried alive.
Hobbies: Reading, puzzles, obstacle courses, hiking
Ability: Portal Creation - Althea has the ability to create portals at will. The portals can be up to 10 ft. in diameter with a bright blue outline. Her max distance traveled is 3 feet. Utilizing this ability is mostly mental. She has to visualize where she is and where she is going as if it's a wall between the present and the near future. Then her magic forms a hole between the two and allows her to pass through. Once she has passed through, she must mentally close that hole. Her portals are not limited to only her and can be maintained for up to 5 minutes before she'll have to collapse the portal. Her abilities allow her to maintain up to 4 portals at a time, each being within 60 feet of the other. While she can use her ability periodically throughout the day, maintaining 4 portals at once will only last for 15 minutes and will use up her magic for the day. After a full day of using her magic, Althea will experience some numbness in her fingers and feet. She will experience migraines, dizziness, and nausea if she pushes herself past her limit. If she is injured, her portals will be weak and less sustainable, giving her or another individual less than a minute to pass through, the time diminishing if her state continues to worsen.
History:

@RhysTheFirebird group

(Okay, sorry about the late reply, took me a while to gather everything together)
(So, the higher class have bred for generations to produce off spring with stronger abilities, and though this is not infallible, it mostly works. But as they have all their needs laid out in front of them because of money and the strength of their magic, they never learned to live with out their magic and nor have they truly tested what their abilities can do. So, most higher class citizens don’t have anything specail about their abilities.)
(The lower class have had to work hard for what they have, and it’s not much. Being the poorest, they dont have strong magical abilities to help them in life, so hey learn how to do things with their hands, and they truley test their weaker abilities to see what they can make them do. They train and practice, spending most of their childhood learning with their hands and stretching their powers to the max.)

@In_the_mud

((Okay so would you say that there is more of a utopian vibe or dystopian? Having magic be heavily integrated is a wonderful thing for the world, helping to solve many issues, but it could also create a lot of them. Especially with greedy and angry people running around with powers or corrupt leaders that will ignore the lower class. Also, do people with no abilities exist? Or does everyone have a little something?))

@RhysTheFirebird group

(Yes, it’s dystopian, and shortly INTO the RP, magic will start vanishing)
(Everyone has a little something, even if its barely enough to to boil a pot of water, heal a tiny cut and the like.)

@RhysTheFirebird group

Name: Rodya Duntol
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bi
Appearance-
Eyes) A bright, emerald green that shine when he’s happy, but seem to become darker, more of a jade color when he’s angry.
Hair) Golden blond, with hints of gold and light brown.
Skin)
Height) 5’11”
Weight)
Body Type)
Personality: Rodya is an overall cheerful person on the outside, but on the inside he’s calculating and always paying attention. He never says anything he doesn’t mean to say and always takes his time with his words. When doing this, Rodya can be silent for minuets at a time, just thinking of the best way to say something. When having a conversation with him, it’s ideal to have lots of patience because when rushed, Rodya will just take longer on purpose. He’ll even put this way of thinking into his writing.
Back to his outside portrayal, he’s usually never without his disarming and charming smile and he’s quick with a laugh. Those who really know him know the difference between his real smile and laugh versus his courtiers smile and laugh. When he’s really happy and smiling, he has a dimple in his left cheek, and his laugh is bright. With his courtiers smile, there are no dimples and his laugh is slightly lower, not as bright.
Rodya is pretty easy going, and will take an insult in stride, flashing a smile and laughing. Depending on how bad the insult is though, his eyes may darken with anger, but many people don’t think the darkening of his eyes is from anger, as he never portrays anger. If the insult is really bad, he’ll usually come up with some clever way to embarrass the person in front of everyone.
When he’s with the people he cares about, Rodya is completely different, not so quick with a laugh or smile, as his real ones are far and few between. Instead of thinking of the right thing to say to please the person in front of him, or get information out of them, he’ll usually tell the truth and tell them of his worries, knowing that sharing these things are enter than trying to deal with them alone.
Rodya has interesting humor, sometimes preferring a darker humor, or even ‘dad’ humor, with stupid and cheesy jokes. He can find a funny side to almost anything, and enjoys seeing people laugh (Well, the people he thinks should be happy).
Likes:
-Writing; Rodya has always loved writing from a young age, and in general, telling stories.
-Debating; Rodya loves to have a good debate, whether he’s right or wrong, Rodya will have a good hearted debate with anyone, but once it turns into an argument, the young man will usually back out of it. He’ll also admit the loss of the debate if his point is proven wrong.
-Parties; Music and dancing are two of favorite things to do, below writing.
Dislikes:
-Arguments; A debate is fine, an argument is not. Arguments can lead to bad things. All it takes is pissing off the wrong person and you could be in a fight for your life. Rodya has no plans to end his life early.
-Repetitiveness; If people, stories or anything repeated itself more than 3 times, it will start to annoy Rodya to his last nerves, and he may just get up and walk away from whatever is doing the repeating.
-Bossiness; There is a difference in telling someone what to do when you need someone to do something and just telling someone to do something because you can and/or want to.
Hobbies:
-Writing; Despite his father’s wishes for Rodya to marry and English woman, Rodya has no plans to do so, preferring to spend most of his time writing.
-Debating; He enjoys this enough to make it a hobby, and sometimes he’ll deliberately go out looking for one.
-Street Fighting; And he’s good at it too.
Conditions-
Mental) N/A
Physical) He has a long scar on his side from an accident as a boy. He fell out of a tree and a branch tore his side, he barely lived through the experience. He also broke his arm.
Ability) Fire

(Updated my character sheet a little bit. Sorry I was gone, I got an application error all day yesterday, and its still running pretty slow now)

@In_the_mud

(I'd say somewhere in the middle. Her ability is useful to her and she uses it for covert operations and other similar things for the government system (whatever that may be) So she is high class, but she wasn't born into it.)

@RhysTheFirebird group

(Ok, so, with the way her ability works, she (I’m assuming) haas come to rely on it slightly to get places. But as a higher class, and not having to deal with the poverty, she may not be able to gar farter then, i’m going to se 3 mile radius. Other than that, take the ability as far as you want.)
(Please fill out the ability slot like the following: Ability: Portal Creation; [Power description, what it can do, and what it looks like, her limitations, and how her body reacts when she starts to use it too much and what happens when she surpasses her limit])
