Ever since the appearance of a new phantom thief, there had been countless heists that resulted in media attention and the thief getting away. Most of these cases were assigned to the same detective, Shuichi Saihara, as he was regarded as one of the best and likely one of the only people capable of catching this thief. He was determined to catch them as well, even if he only knew that they had purple hair and wore a white outfit. The rest was a mystery, and it was impossible to know his true identity.

However, it almost seemed as if the thief knew that they were assigning the same detective to chase him, as more heists occurred, happening almost daily now. Was he trying to wear the detective out so he could get away? That seemed to be the case, although it remained unclear. With how many teasing comments he would make towards him, it was likely that he was trying to bother the detective until he eventually gave up on catching him. Whether that was because of the comments or due to the inevitable exhaustion was unclear, but it seemed like his motive was getting the detective to give up.

As another report came in, he sighed to himself, although he was unsurprised by the fact that there was yet another heist. That was the fourth one in a row, and the detective had already gone three nights without sleep because of this. The chases didn't usually last most of the night, but he found himself unable to sleep after most of them for one reason or another. By this point, he was running purely off his desire to finish his job and caffeine. It wasn't exactly a good thing, but he couldn't give up just yet.

Upon arriving at the scene, he immediately saw the thief standing there. It was likely that he was expecting his arrival and wished to tease him. That tended to be how those encounters went, and then there would be a chase until the thief eventually got away. With how much he was exhausting the detective, this was likely to occur quickly, but not without some teasing first. He made his way to the purple-haired thief, waiting for him to make a comment.

@Gaytective-Saihara

Shuichi overheard the comment but just rolled his eyes in response to it. He didn't think that the thief was expressing concern, as he hadn't noticed that his expression softened. He simply thought that he was saying that to get on his nerves, to make fun of the fact that he was exhausted, even if he was the cause of it. So far, it seemed like yet another normal interaction for the two of them.

He didn't respond to the comment, instead just glaring at the thief in front of him. He didn't know what his next move would be, whether it would be another comment or the beginning of their chase, but he was prepared for anything. Even if he was just standing there, silently, awaiting the thief's next move, he was prepared. As exhausted as he was, he was still determined to finish his job, or try to. He expected the other to get away, but that wouldn't stop him from trying to catch him.

Kokichi watched him for a second before another cop busted in, and the sound of a shot rang out in the air.
“!” kokichis body froze for only a moment before the pain and adrenaline kicked in. He ran, and quickly, his side bleeding out onto his hand

@Gaytective-Saihara

For a moment, Shuichi was completely frozen. The sound of the shot as it rang out into the air was more than enough to startle him. Unless he absolutely had to, he avoided using his gun since the noise bothered him. The person next to him was likely wondering why he hadn't shot the thief, but that was his exact reason. Besides, he hadn't committed a violent crime, so was it really necessary?

Once the shock of thr moment wore off, he immediately ran after the thief. While it looked like this was because he wanted to catch him, it was actually because he wanted to make sure that he was alright. Kokichi managed to get pretty far from him since he was unable to do anything for a moment, but he ran after him nonetheless. Eventually, he did catch up to the thief to see that he was bleeding. The shot hit him, which left the detective momentarily speechless. With all the thoughts in his head, at first, he didn't know what to do.

@Gaytective-Saihara

Shuichi immediately shook his head in response to Kokichi's comment, but it seemed like he was unable to do much. He was still trying to process everything, and the added anxiety of someone dying in front of him certainly did not help him much. Eventually, he reached out to someone, the only person he could think of who could help them and wouldn't immediately try to arrest Kokichi.

After a few minutes, a green-haired male arrived on the scene. While the detective was unaware of the friendship, he was also friends with the thief. He just got him precisely because he was a calm and understanding person, so he wouldn't focus on the crimes; he would focus on helping the thief. It was only after he saw the other's reaction to the event that he noticed the friendship.

"Okay, this is a bit of a mess, isn't it?" he asked before chuckling softly. It seemed like he was trying to lighten the mood a bit for everyone's sake. "Well, I can't remove the bullet, but I can take care of the wound. He'll recover, even without help further than this, which is a good thing. He'll still be free by the time I'm done."

After he spoke, he began tending to the thief's wounds. It took him a while, and everyone was silent, but eventually, he picked the smaller male up and handed him over to the detective. He would stay to help, but he had to get back to work. All he could do was tell Shuichi what to do and then leave the scene since he couldn't stay. He did tell the detective that he'd be stopping by once he was done working, though.

WIthout much of a choice, Shuichi carried the injured thief until he got to his car, and then he drove him back to his house from there. He was silent the entire time. It seemed like his mind was truly trying to process everything that happened, and he was truly unable to. It was all too sudden. This was the first time that he had dealt with such an issue. It was just too much for him.

Even after they got home, he didn't say anything. He gently placed the thief on his bed, but that was it. Then he sat next to him in silence. He almost seemed to be distant. Sure, during the chases he was quiet and rarely responded to the teasing, but he was refusing to say anything now. He was just a bit overwhelmed by how much happened in such a short time period, and the sound of the shot being fired was still replaying in his mind. It startled him, and he had yet to calm from that. In combination with everything else, it seemed to leave him temporarily nonverbal.

(Did I just project my autism onto him? Yes-)

@Gaytective-Saihara

Shuichi knew that Kokichi had fallen asleep at some point during the ride back home, and that was really more of a reason for him to stay quiet. He just watched over the thief for most of the night, even if it meant that he wouldn't get any sleep. It seemed like there was too much on his mind for that, anyway, as he couldn't even focus much on things that would be able to distract him. He was silent as the sun eventually rose, now waiting for Kokichi to wake up and for Rantaro to arrive. He could help the thief so he could go to work. Exhausted or not, he still had to.

@Gaytective-Saihara

Shuichi was a bit zoned out when Kokichi began to whimper, but as it went on, he snapped out of his thoughts and realized that the other was in pain. He couldn't take seeing him like that, even if he was just some random thief. He didn't even know his name or his face without his mask, yet he cared so much about him for some reason. He didn't know why, and without much thinking, he wrapped his arms around the smaller male.

He didn't really know what he was doing, but he stayed there until the thief seemed to calm. Then he got up as he remembered what time it was. Rantaro would be at his house soon, and he needed to prepare himself for work. As nice as the brief cuddles were, he didn't have the time for them at the moment. Maybe they could continue once he was home? He didn't know, but it'd be nice.

@Gaytective-Saihara

Shuichi went to the door to greet Rantaro, but he only gave him a small wave without saying anything to him. He really hadn't said anything since the previous night, and it seemed like he just didn't want to at the time. He was still exhausted as well, but now that his friend was there, he did need to head to work. The other would know what he was doing with Kokichi, so there wasn't anything to worry about as long as he could leave for work soon.

@Gaytective-Saihara

Shuichi just shook his head in response to Rantaro's request. While he was exhausted, he couldn't exactly refuse to go to work, either, especially considering how he was really the only one that did anything. It was one of the reasons why he pushed himself through so much exhaustion to begin with. Allowing himself a break just wasn't something that he considered a possibility. Besides, he was sure that he would be alright.

@Gaytective-Saihara

Shuichi just shook his head in response to that comment as well. It didn't seem like he was challenging Rantaro or anything; it just seemed like he was denying that the other would throw him onto the bed. Instead of really doing anything, he just tried to make his way past the other so he could get to work. He didn't have time to deal with anything else, at least in his mind.

@Gaytective-Saihara

Shuichi tried to release himself from Rantaro's grasp, although there was a hint of fear in his expression now since the other was angry. He never meant to make him angry, but he really didn't think that his needs were more important than the things that he had to do that day, which caused him to be stubborn. Either way, he still seemed determined to leave, but he gave up after a moment as he wondered about what Rantaro was going to do.

@Gaytective-Saihara

Shuichi was a bit surprised when Rantaro threw him onto the bed, but he knew that trying to get up wouldn't do anything since he would just be placed back on the bed, so he eventually just gave in. He didn't go anywhere, instead staying on the bed, and he eventually closed his eyes. There was still a bit on his mind, but hopefully sleep would take him eventually.

@The_short_cyberphyco

Rantaro sighed softly and got to check on kokichi.
“Scootch,” he said to shuichi and lay next to him, pulling him into his chest. He always had to cuddle shuichi when the others wouldnt sleep
