@Calanthe

Okay, so I just had this idea for an rp, and it's not exactly the greatest, but I hope that it makes sense.

So I've seen this concept with like a bird/human civilization or race type thing. And like the way you're treated is based by the type of bird you are. Normally the scavengers like vultures, ravens, and crows (just birds like that) are looked down on and treated terribly. Birds like doves, robins, bluebirds, things of that nature are sort of in the middle, somewhat picked on by the higher "ranked" birds and such, and then you have like the birds who are above the rest, if that even makes any sense, like eagles or something. I really don't know how to explain my idea. But uhm, yeah, I was sort of wanting to work on this character who's a crow/human/thing and I sort of wanted to try this hierarchy idea for it.

  • Please be active. At least once a week posts.
  • Have passable grammar and punctuation (At least in the RP. I understand being more lenient in general chatter)
  • Cursing is allowed, to a degree
  • No mary/gary sues
  • Please have at least four sentences per post. If you want long posts from me, I will expect lengthy posts from you. With that stated, I understand if every so often you have to only have three sentences or less, we all have our bad days
  • Be ready to post a sample of your RP style if you're wanting to join
  • I reserve the right to decline you, and please know this isn't personal
  • I reserve the right to change/modify these rules at any time
  • If anyone wants to do this idea but it's already filled, shoot me a PM and I'll happily start a new thread with you
  • And last but not least, please shoot me any and all questions you have when we're RPing.

I'll post a template if someone wants to join! :D

@Calanthe

(Yes, could I just see a writing sample? Also you can totally let me know if I need to explain this idea a little more it is a bit confusing))

@callycat

(Sure, give me a second to find a good sample! I'll ask questions if you want me to join after, I don't wanna waste your time or anything.)

@callycat

(also the sample's a little short, sorry! It's the first one I could find, but I'm fully comfortable with writing longer replies if that's what you're looking for.)

Fiori gave the sword a swing, more structured this time. More intent behind it. It wasn't often that he sparred alone, but the movements came to him easily: parry, dodge, and thrust. His footwork was clean, almost graceful as he really began to move. "I don't want it from you." He did. So badly it stung his pride. He was supposed to be better than this, supposed to be above petty concerns like greed, but Levi was right when he said his brother didn't know how to care for a sword. He was right when he said Fiori did. "It's not mine, I couldn't possibly…" He paused, giving the sword in his hands a yearning look as he swung it in a wide arc. The words died on his tongue. "…I just couldn't."

@callycat

Thanks so much! I'm sort of interested in a coupel things about the concept so here's my little list of questions

  • Are the people bird hybrids? or are they just assigned the rank of a bird? And if so, are these ranks heredity (like the peerage system, where titles of nobility are passed down)?
  • If the people are bird hybrids, how does that work? Are they mostly human with a couple of bird traits, or are they more like aarakocra and kenku from dnd?

@Calanthe

Okay, so it's more like a bird hybrid sort of thing if that makes sense. I was thinking more human with a couple of bird traits, like the wings and such? And perhaps a trait of the type of bird category they fit into -if that makes sense. I guess it's a bit like Maximum Ride except it's all birds people? I don't know if I'm making sense at the moment. And with the trait, like my character, he's a vulture and well his family tends to work a bit with the deceased. If I'm making sense, because I don't know if I am and I don't know if I'm really explaining this well.

@callycat

No, no you're explaining it pretty well! They're basically just people with wings who also have traits of the birds the embody. So like… idk, I'm guessing a peacock would be really glamorous, while someone like a chickadee would be really bubbly and sing? Since that's what the birds do?

@Calanthe

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking, although some birds don't exactly embody the trait completely. And of course, let me just find one, is it okay if it's a little basic?

@callycat

I'm totally down with my character being a dude, but also what sort of bird should I be? Like were you hoping it would be a high class/low class thing or what?

@callycat

Name: Avery Devereaux
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Species: Kestrel (a kind of falcon)
Personality: Avery is a clever little thing, quick witted and sharp as a tack, and his mind typically moves much faster than his mouth can keep up with. He tends to be pretty reserved because of it, always making sure to carefully parse out his words before he talks lest he begin to ramble. Unlike the rest of his family, he often lacks in patience and struggles to watch and wait for the right opportunity. He always wants to dive into the action, always wants to get involved immediately, and there's no challenge he won't accept. Still, he's capable of holding himself to the level of politeness that people expect from the son of an important businessman
Appearance:
Height/Build— Small and slight, Avery stands at a diminutive 5'3. Though his body is covered in light muscle, he still looks more dainty than anything else, much to his eternal shame.
Skin tone— Pale, freckled, and quick to flush
Face/Eyes—His features are dainty, with just a hint of sharpness to them. His eyes, unusually innocent despite his predator status, are big and deep black, barely ringed around the edge with gold.
Hair— He dyes his hair grey, but the natural red color peeks through at the roots more often than not. Usually pulled back in a loose ponytail, it's kept in a tidy bob that falls to the bottom of his jaw.
Clothes— He dresses pretty utilitarian, usually just combat boots, cargo pants, and a dark tank top. If he's being draged to some kind of gala or business event he'll force himself into a suit, but it's not something he enjoys.
Extra— this is what a kestrel's wings look like, so yeah.
Backstory: Avery is the second youngest of his siblings and by far the most disappointing. Although he shares some of the features of his family, the big black eyes, the freckles, the shortness, he's nowhere near as accomplished, and lacks the patient characteristic of their line. Growing up as the least favorite child left his childhood rather dismal, and his young adulthood wasn't much better. There was always one test or another for him to deal with, always some new way for him to fail.

(alright, here's my boy! let me know if there's anything that needs changing)

@Calanthe

(He looks great!)

Name: Dominic Holt
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Species: Bearded Vulture
Personality/Backstory?: He's rather sweet although he tends to just stay quiet, not really having too much to say. At least that's how his parents brought him up to be. Never speak too much, never try to make your presence known to others. And although he is quite friendly and loves to have a good conversation with a friend, or at times a complete stranger, he tends to just bite his tongue and say nothing. And the idea of him and his family being of a lower rank has given him the idea or the feeling of being less than, so he tends to try to behave as though he really isn't himself, that he's more important, which had attributed to the fact that he tries to hide what he really looks like.
Appearance:

Height/Build— He's about 6'4, tall and lanky and is a little bit on the thinner side. Growing up in a larger family there was never enough food for everybody, so he looks a little bit underweight.
Skin tone— His skin is sort of a warm brown color and has a small mole on his jaw.
Face/Eyes— Dom's eyes are a light grey, which is a rather common color among the different families and types of vultures. But since he moved away from his family, he started using contacts to try to lighten his eyes color in hopes of appearing a little less like a scavenger.
Hair— His hair is a dark brown, almost a black, and is very curly. He keeps it a bit short, probably something like this?
Clothes— He normally is seen wearing a hoodie and jeans, or a sweatshirt and jeans or something oversized to cover his wings. He's sort of just trying to fit in among the other birds rather than dealing the taunts, jeers, and just dirty looks that he normally would get when out around birds of a "higher" status.
Extra— His wings look a bit like this
Other: He's sort of a big softy.

(And I probably should've given you a time idea? I was sort of thinking of a bit more a modern-ish time period?))
