"Superheroes" are not what we thought they would be.

When it began, everyone supposed that the existence of superhumans would bring about an age of heroes: Superman-like people who fly around beating up baddies, rescuing old ladies from burning buildings, and, all in all, defending the innocent, fighting for justice. Sounds pretty legit, right?

Wrong.

See, when superhumans started popping up all over the place, someone got this grand idea that they were superior to your average-joe human working at Cracker Barrel. It was hard to dispute; the supers had increased strength, heightened intelligence, elemental abilities, longer lifespans, or just about anything else you could imagine, while the "regulars" (or Reggies, as they became so unoriginally nicknamed) had… well, nothing that the supers didn't. So when the supers started filling up the governments and taking over leadership, what could people say? After all, most practically worshipped these people and their incredible abilities. Why not make them the leaders and allow them to have most of the power?

Because as it turns out, the supers are still just human, and basic math will tell you that Humans + Power = Disaster.

Fast forward 83 years, and here we are.

Superhumans make up the government, as well as about 20% of the general population, and those of them with the most popular and well-known powers are usually considered "upper-class" citizens. Even the most useless of powers are still considered superior to the average-joe. Sometimes people with powers fight against crime, but it seems that it's a lot less like a comic-book than you'd expect and a lot more like people using their powers for crime or personal gain. We don't have superheroes in the regular sense of things, but rather "Champions." And what do Champions do, you may ask? Not much. They're basically celebrities, for the most part, using their powers for fame, fortune, and to keep the general population entertained. They compete in special events (think the Olympics, except with superpowers) and other various activities that people seem to enjoy, but never really do anything with meaning.

The country is made up of sprawling megacities that are lit ablaze by bright neon lights; technological advancement has skyrocketed in recent years. We've got colonies on the moon, colonies on Mars… but the gap between the rich and the poor seems ever widening, with most of the rich being supers. Though the middle of the cities are alive with life, bustling with activity, the only kind of activity you find towards the edges of the cities and along the forgotten streets is crime, and lots of it. Weapons are illegal nowadays (after all, the government says we have the supers to protect us… though they don't do much of that), but criminals don't seem to care about what is or isn't legal, so they always have them; good people have little to defend themselves with, which makes it even harder to stay safe in lesser-populated areas.

Crime is growing. It always has been, but lately, it just seems to be getting worse. Kidnappings, burglaries, murders, and more— but nobody is doing anything about it. In fact, it barely even makes the news. Society is screwed up enough as it is; we don't need the criminal underworld getting braver and more powerful. It's time that someone, somewhere, decided to actually take some steps to try to stop them.

It's time that someone became a real Champion.

The gist of the story is simple: A small group of teenagers/young adults from this screwy super-dystopia decide to join together into their own makeshift "superhero" team in order to fight crime and eventually change the way society operates altogether. Some may have powers, and some might not. I would like for this to be a slow-burn kind of thing and for the RP to open with most of them meeting one another for the first time, becoming friends, realizing that they all share similar ideals, and deciding to do something about it. The group will then probably face off against crime gangs, supervillains, and eventually even the authorities.

Rules and Requirements

  • You must be somewhat experienced as a roleplayer. Having decent grammar and writing skills is important to me, but even more important is how well you work to develop your characters throughout a RP. You do not have to be perfect by any means; I just appreciate those who put more effort into their writing.
  • You do not have to be super active, but please note that if you are not, you may get left behind in a RP. We will try not to let you get behind, but if you are not active this may be difficult.
  • Posts do not have to be long; I value quality over quantity. Long posts are welcome, too, though. I don't mind length as long as it's easy to reply to.
  • Language cannot be anything above a PG-13 level. I will tolerate no f-bombs, g-d, or vulgarity. However, PG-13 and below is fine.
  • There will be no explicit sex scenes. That is not necessary or welcome here. Non-vulgar references to sex, sexual themes, or innuendos are alright. Just don't be nasty.
  • No racial slurs.
  • No being rude to other RPers. Character drama is fine; actual drama is not.
  • No god-modding or power playing. Play only YOUR characters. You cannot kill anyone else's character without permission.
  • I control date and time. Do not timeskip without permission.
  • Try to include everyone and not leave fellow roleplayers in the dust.
  • Superpowers are allowed, but do not be OP. Magic and demons are not allowed.
  • Violence and gore is allowed.
  • References to dark themes such as rape may be present, though no scenes will be included.
  • Please inform me of any triggers you have; I will avoid them. :)
  • Romance between characters is welcome.

I will post a template as well as some basic character options/ideas once someone shows interest.

Ooh, may I? This looks neat, although I may not be as active in the mornings lol.

Backstory: (optional, but recommended; can be brief and developed later)

Powers/Abilities: (ONLY if the character is a superhuman)

Feel free to add or omit anything to your desired specifications.

  • You can each have 1-3 characters at any given time, but you are not required to have more than 1 unless you just want to. (Note: the hero group will likely only contain about 4-6 members, so other characters may be antagonists to start with and we will see what happens from there.)
  • Humans and superhumans are both equally likely to be on the "hero team" that these guys will assemble; you don't need powers to be a hero! ;)
  • Feel free to ask questions!!

@Aizawa-Sensei group

Also, some extra suggestions: The characters can be just about anything you want. If you want them to be an upper-class superhuman, a petty criminal non-super, or something different entirely, then go for it. Anything you can imagine somewhat realistically fitting into this setting will work fine for me. Be creative with it. :D

(OOH. I have a great idea for an antagonist. She's the CEO of several corporations that hire out superhumans for specialized jobs, study supers, make pharmaceuticals, and is basically made of money. Then I have two characters, a character who is basically a werewolf without the ability to spread his curse, and an anthropomorphic rat. Are those okay?)

Deleted user

(Sorry that every one of my characters has powers, I just got excited when I heard "superpowers" and went feral.)

Deleted user

(Although all but the rat guy are antagonists so… idk could work.)

@Aizawa-Sensei group

(They sound excellent! I love the idea for the antagonist. I imagine we'll have a variety of antagonists throughout this RP, since I expect it to be really dynamic, and I think she would definitely be an interesting one to deal with. And yes, shape-shifting is a superpower so him being, in essence, a werewolf would be the equivalent of a wolf-shifter and should fit in just fine. And anthropomorphic rat— well, My Hero Academia has anthropomorphic cats, dogs, and even a centipede and nobody seems to question it so I don't think a rat is too far out of the question for a world like this. Go for it!)

@someone_who_occasionally_writes_

(I'm thinking of two, a local barista who is obsessed with superheroes but has no powers of his own. He chases them down, getting caught in trouble and such, but he never gets hurt. He just wants to learn about them He's just a normal person though, no powers. And the other I have is a super, whether he is an antagonist or protagonist is really dependent on what everyone else's characters are. But the other one has extremely heightened senses. His vision is like binoculars, his hearing, taste, everything. It's literally insane. He has to were a helmet or the rush of all five senses. It's too much to handle. But yeah, I'll definitely get these up soon.)

@Aizawa-Sensei group

(Oooh. Both of these sound incredible; I'm really loving the cast already. I can't wait to see everyone's characters! And… if it helps any in decision making… we can always have protagonists who turn into antagonists and antagonists who turn into protagonists later down the road. Ya never know how things go when you start doing character arcs!)

(Yeah haha, I got inspired by Reepicheep from the Narnia series because I am a Literal Child inside. Outside I'm 19 but inside I am smol. Sounds neat, @its_tom_riddle_is_in_love!)

Alias:
Superhuman or human: Superhuman
Age: 24
Gender: demigirl, she/they
Sexuality: Lesbian asexual
Backstory: Isabel lived a fairly normal life, although when she was born it was quite a shock as she was so small her mother hadn't even known she was with child! She was raised as any other child would be, taken care of and given lots of attention as an only child. Now, she's an investigative journalist and radical who believes in giving non-supers their rights back.
Personality: She's very timid and soft-spoken, but will stand up for what she believes in.

Other: Idk I didn't think this far.

@Aizawa-Sensei group

Okay so I'm not gonna lie, this is one of the most bizarre groups of characters I've ever laid eyes, and yet… I am strangely pleased?
Lowkey convinced that Isabel could be Principal Nezu from MHA's long lost cousin, ngl.

I'll have my characters up soon, probably later this evening. I'm in the middle of doing college math right now, which is the only reason I haven't yet. I'll likely do two or three characters, though I have a lot of ideas and haven't yet decided which ones I'm going with yet.

@Aizawa-Sensei group

She's not finished, but for the time being, here's my first one.

Name:
Marlo Bennett

Alias:
N/A

Superhuman or human:
Superhuman

Age:
18 years old

Gender:
Female

Sexuality:
Demi

Backstory:
[Under construction]

Personality:
INTJ (MBTI), 5w6 (Enneagram), True Neutral (Alignment).

Appearance:
She stands at approximately 5'6 and weighs about 130lbs. She carries most of her weight around her hips but does have slightly broad shoulders for a girl, giving her something between a rectangular and "hourglass" shape, though she is almost flat chested. She has small, quick hands. Her skin is pale, mildly blemished, but she never wears makeup of any kind. She has wavy ash-brown hair that is shoulder length, more often frizzy and messy than not. She usually covers it up with a beanie, a ball cap, or pulls it back into a sloppy ponytail; her appearance is not her top priority. Her face is heart-shaped (wider forehead and cheekbones, with a narrower chin/jaw). She has bright blue-grey eyes, with faint dark circles beneath them from neglecting to sleep properly. Relatively thin lips, but very straight, white teeth. Her nose is neither large nor small, with a subtle Roman nose shape.
On a normal day, she wears baggy sweatpants and a white tank top with a zip-up hoodie jacket thrown over it, plus a pair of mismatched high-tops (one is dark red, one is dark blue… we don't know if this is on purpose or if she just literally doesn't care). If she gets the motivation to put more effort into her appearance (which doesn't happen often), she'll opt for a pair of dark jeans with a blue or red flannel shirt over a t-shirt (with a band logo or meme printed on the front). She also wears glasses; large, circular glasses. She is near-sighted and cannot see well at a distance without them. She likes to wear pins on her jackets, too, usually pop-culture, band, or meme related ones.

She is usually expressionless and stoic, appearing tired and bored. She has a bad habit of slouching, and a tendency to stare off into space when people are speaking to her about something she finds uninteresting. Her tones are often borderline monotone and drab— that is, until you get her talking about something she's interested in. She'll usually perk up a little then, and you'll have a hard time keeping up with her insane rambles.

Powers/Abilities:
She can make people go to sleep simply by touching them; it happens instantly, but requires skin-to-skin contact. Once they are asleep, she can affect the mood of their dreams to an extent; she cannot control what they see in the dream nor view their dreams, but she can dictate whether the dream is good or bad (i.e., she can cause people to have peaceful, happy dreams, or terrifying nightmares, but their brains will fill in the blanks and she won't actually know what the dream is). She can also touch people and prevent them from being able to sleep for up to 72 hours after contact; the person will usually suffer from extreme exhaustion and be miserable during this time. Overuse of her powers can cause her great fatigue and causes her to need more sleep herself.

Strengths:
Highly-intelligent. Strong-willed/stubborn. Logical. Creative mind. Quick-thinker. Skilled in some basic hand-to-hand combat. Good artist. Independent. Loyal. Honest (sometimes brutally). Dependable. Means what she says.

Weaknesses:
Stubborn. Brutally honest at times. Distrustful of others. Independent to a fault at times. Afraid of her own emotions; denies them in favor of what is rational. Unintentionally insensitive at times. Sometimes lazy; usually tired. Objective.

Likes:
Computers. Technology. Dogs. Pretzels. String cheese. Energy drinks. Nighttime. Video games. Music, and lots of it. Collecting random things. Naps, but also staying up all night. Warm blankets.

Dislikes:
Bad puns. Hot weather. Anything girly or pink. Authority figures; being told what to do. Sugary candies. Sleeping like a normal human being.

Other: This is not finished.
