Anyways, does anyone have any recommendations for nonfiction books that are good breakdowns of the 40s/50s/60s/70s? I want to do more research than just googling stuff, of course, but the world of nonfiction is so vast that I have no idea what resources would be effective aides.

Unfortunately I don't necessarily know any particular nonfiction books at the top of my head, but I do know a few databases that would have books, research/scholarly journals, and even primary sources from various points in history:
I'm sure that there are other databases and sources of information out there, but these are the ones that I could think of at the top of my head, and hopefully these will be able to help you with your research (if these sources aren't helpful/they weren't what you were looking for then I'm terribly sorry for wasting your time).
