this is not a thread for actual essays. fuck that. i didnt drop out of school and get my ged just to have to follow a five to seven paragraph format featuring an intro, hook, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. any way

the FIRST thought on my mind is that maybe when everyone gives moms shit about the 'my kids listen to rap music and it makes them disrespectful' it's entirely unnecessary because….they're right. like listen. i'll be the first to admit not all rap fits this type of rap. but like….my brother loves rap, the old stuff and eminem and a lot of newer popular artists too. but the trend in all of these different generations of rap is a HUGE disrespect for women.

like. derogatory terms, hating your mom(eminem), hating women, treating women badly, hating your wife(eminem). and no matter how much anyone tries to defend it, teenage boys are impressionable pieces of shit. they watch fight club ONE TIME and totally miss the meaning and proceed to be aggro-douche bags for years. and my brother is a teenage boy, and my brother listens to rap music with 'women bad' themes, and my brother treats my mom like SHIT. like bro. he gets insane attitude with her, like, absolutely wild. but the thing is, as soon as mom brings dad into it, he's got that shocked pikachu face. case in point was the other day, when he was being a shit to her, and dad walked up behind him and was like 'what did you just say' and he DID THE FACE.

because thats the thing. he respects dad. but he doesnt respect mom all the time. i say all the time because generally he isnt the worst, but it feels like he gets these random moments that are probably triggered by some stressor like listening to rap with shitty teenage boys on fortnite or whatever the fuck. anyway.

when moms blame a video game or rap music or something for having an effect on their kid….maybe they right. maybe.

my NEXT thought is just kind of….why do people tiptoe around the words 'fat' and 'overweight' so damn much. like….you can say im overweight. i say im overweight. rip to my mom but its so unnecessary to constantly use 'plus size' when other words will do, and im sick of seeing it on the internet and shit all the time. its not a bad word. its not a slur. its not hurtful unless you intend it to be. calm the fuck down

FELT THIS, I'm constantly doing this for both myself and my characters…like I'm so used to seeing "fat" and "overweight" used as insults that I'm wary to use them as descriptors (how they're meant to be used), although that's something I'm working on.

@croccin-champagne

im glad you're working on it! too many people treat the word like its taboo, even though it's literally just a descriptor. no one freaks out about the use of the word skinny. we need to get over the negative connotation of the word so that people stop feeling like shit for it applying to them

hunger games time!

i was reading some article about ooc things that nearly ruined media for people, and someone mentioned katniss settling down and starting a family and i was like….that's the point.

like okay. this is a girl/woman(spanning years so) who spent her whole childhood and teenage hood doing nothing but surviving. surviving meant feeding her family, meant getting roped into a resistance because it was the last option available, meant going back to the games because she had to. katniss everdeen is a 'do what you have to to survive' type of person for good reason, entirely because of her experience and trauma.

throughout the books she does whats expected of her because thats normal. she does what those in charge say to, she goes to rallies and does speeches and all these things she doesnt want to do because someone is looking at her like she should.

starting a family just checks off another thing on the list of 'this is what you do'. she led a rebellion. someone told her to settle down so she did. because trauma doesnt just stop because your war is over.

like bro its LITERALLY MENTIONED IN THE EPILOGUE THAT SHE DOESNT WANT HER KID/S. it was made obvious through tone and writing that she hated the idea of bringing children into a world like hers. and also that she was still deeply traumatized and there was a huge vibe that she almost kind of regretted her kid/s. so aCTUALLY. its only half ooc, because katniss everdeen's character is a blank slate. trauma and survival instincts built into her do that.
