I’m calling this out right here. I don’t have Discord and this has been a problem for me for a while now. I’m not in the moderator loop because I’m not on Discord, and that seriously needs to change, because I’m sick and tired of being left out, then finding out that Nyx is going on a rampage (legitimate or not). I need some damn answers, and yes, I’m pissed. Also, I will be emphasizing on some kind of mod PM or mod chat on here, so that I actually know what the f is going on half the time!
Hey @ Serpentess, I wanted to jump in and say I'll look at a better way to organize mod communication on-site and make sure we're all in the loop going forward. Obviously, confusion and chaos is not how we want to be making decisions!
That said, here's a short breakdown of what happened:
- Yesterday, lots of users complained to me directly about red-flag behavior stemming from some users in the chicken chat, particularly around conversations between older adults and potentially younger users
- After investigating the accounts, I determined that at least a few of them were likely just duplicate accounts from the same person misrepresenting their age/background. I let Nyx know my suspicions, but I take responsibility for not looping you in at this point.
- Later, several more concerned users started reporting (to me directly and on Discord) that some of these users were posting face reveals and/or contact information
- Acting quickly, Nyx blocked some of the offending accounts; some of those users created new accounts to come back
- Some innocent account(s) may have been caught in the follow-up-blocks in a hasty move to ensure the above bad behavior stopped immediately and completely
A lot of chaos and commotion, and I agree: we could have all had more communication here (I wasn't around to answer Nyx's questions either, so I appreciate them making a judgment call in the interest of shutting down behavior quickly). That's something that the mod setup could definitely improve upon, and something I'll work on implementing soon. In the meantime, I'm reviewing the blocked users and their posts manually and will unblock any that seem like they might've been caught in the crossfire.
