I am actively a figure skater, I went to art school for five years, and have dealt with anxiety since middle school. I have a lot of knowledge on these topics (and various others), so ask away!

When have most skilled figure skaters started skating?

Most professionals start at around toddler age (3-5), with a few starting at 8 or 9. I can only think of one professional that started at over 10 (he was 12), and he learned to jump an axel after his first week (which takes literally everyone else like two years to do, so I don't count him lol). I started at 16 (four years ago), and my progression has been a lot slower than a lot of the 5th graders at my same level.

Thanks! I have another question too. How hard is it to get into an art school and are they expensive?

That typically depends on the school! Yes, most (in America at least) are ridiculously expensive, and the more selective ones (Art Institute of Chicago, RISD, SCAD, etc) can be challenging to get into. A lot of it is just knowing how to format a portfolio. Many are just as hard to get into as your average liberal arts college, though :)
