These notifications stick around for about a week to make sure everyone gets a chance to see them. They'll go away on their own. :)
At some point, I'll add some kind of per-user notification system so I can see whether each user has seen a notification or not (and show/hide notifications accordingly), but that doesn't exist yet. Sorry!
