forum Weird spacing when editing documents?

This isn't a major concern or anything, it's just a bit tedious to deal with. It's like every time I open the editor, the spaces between paragraphs are wider, and I have to go in and backspace for a good ten to fifteen minutes to get it back to how it was. The automatic saving means that once I open the document, there's no going back to how it was before, so essentially every time I want to keep writing on the same thing I have to reformat it all.
Just today, I went to edit a document I created yesterday. Before I went in, it estimated 13 minutes reading time, after opening the editor once that changed to 29 because of all the spaces in between.
Is anyone else getting this or could it just be my laptop being weird?

I'm not getting the same issue, but there does seem to be a different formatting for paragraphing than for other areas of Notebook.ai. In worldbuilding pages and on the forums, I need to press enter twice to leave a space between paragraphs, but in Documents, pressing enter once automatically leaves a space. This makes for weird spacing issues when copying text from discussions to Documents and vice versa.

I would prefer if the process was to press enter/return twice to leave a space in Documents as well as everywhere else, especially since I can't easily insert a linebreak on mobile, and poetry written with automatic spacing isn't pretty.

@andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer) has mentioned that he's working on an upgrade for Documents, so maybe your issue will be fixed?

Hmm. This definitely sounds like a bug, and I have a good idea where it's coming from. I haven't addressed it in the new document editor, but I'll definitely take a look and see what's up. To clarify, you're pressing enter to start a new paragraph, but when you go back to the document it's as if you've pressed enter twice or more times between each paragraph? Also, would you mind letting me know what OS/browser you're on so I can double check that? Thanks!

@Riorlyne I think the one/two-enter is a separate issue. That's actually supposed to be a feature, but I can see why it would be confusing and undesirable (especially since the rest of the site is just text-based [rather than HTML], so there's no differentiation of newlines versus paragraphs). Hitting enter once starts a new "paragraph" in the editor, and there's spacing between paragraphs in the editor. You can actually hit shift+enter to get a newline without the space; this is because our editor is based on Medium's editor, where the enter / shift+enter is also how things are done. I don't really like how non-obvious this is and will hopefully address it soon, but I need to figure out what I want to change it to (and how) before making a change, so we don't constantly change the editor (and its styling, and therefore the look of everyone's documents) more than is necessary. :)

Thank you for explaining that!

I'm able to use Shift+Enter when I'm on a computer, but if there's a way to line break on an iOS keyboard I haven't discovered it. (When I googled some sources said to tap "Shift" and "Return" simultaneously, but that gave me the same result as just tapping "Return", i.e., automatic spacing.)

I can see why automatic paragraph spacing would be helpful in many cases, but would it be possible to allow users to toggle it on/off in settings?

That's right!
I'm using Firefox on my laptop (I'm on Windows, it's happened both in Windows 10 and 7). Thanks for looking into it!
