Curator Notes; Artifact 219

Hello notes, I listened back to the notes from my last artifact. I realized I sounded a bit… Uh, absolutely terrible at it. It was my first collection of notes as the Curator. I’ve been an exhibit designer since I started at the museum. Erm, the latest curator passed last month. Everyone stepped up to take on some of his duties while the board figured out who would take up the job. It took till last week for them to appoint someone and that someone was me. Apparently it was in the Late Curator’s will, which was… strange to say the least. But well, strange things always happen here, everyone who works here gets used to it after the first couple months.

Anyhow, back to artifacts. I picked up right where the late curator stopped. To be honest, he didn’t have a very good system, but he did have a list of artifacts that he was preparing for display. So, that’s where I started. Last artifact excluded, I put that one up because of the genie in it, as well as May.

clears throat
Artifact 219 actually already has a name. The Drum Of Memories. It’s got a very interesting history. It was created by The Artist for The Musician as a gift. The Artist painted the exterior to memorialize… the Musician’s brother- I don’t remember that being in the papers. papers rustle No, it’s not. How would I know that? Our research team is the best, if it’s not in here than it isn’t in any public sources… I’ll need to do research into the Musicians Brother, I don’t think I’ve heard about any brothers. Gods above that’s confusing, must be the artifact’s memories rubbing off on me. I’ve heard of that happening with some relics with strong power and lighter wards.

sigh
Artifact Exterior Description. Basic hand drum in appearance. Only thing that would set it apart from mundane drums is the vibrant paintings. The paintings are of faeries dancing. One Fae in different dancing positions. The Fae is unseelie, even I can tell that. A crown of bones with a fabric strip connected to the end. The bones look to be mostly animal bones with a mouse skull being the focus.

I wonder if the Musician’s brother could be this fae? There isn’t a lot of fae connections to the gods, but the Musician has always had a good relationship with the fae, particularly the unseelie court, though no one is truly sure exactly why their relationship is good. Maybe this is it? The Musician’s brother?

It’s well known that some of the gods were mortal or at least, not divine, before they were chosen to become a god. Perhaps the Musician was a fae? It would explain the music of the Musician and the music of the fae having similarities? … Maybe I should leave this to research? I’m just in charge of the displays and funding for them… I’m not qualified for doing that or making conclusions like that, I’m just the curator. nervous laugh The curator who should keep their nose in their own business.

I’m not sure the magic of the drum, but I’ll make sure the wards are strong enough to keep a god’s artifact safe. I’m good at wards, one of the reasons I was a good exhibit designer. I’ve done most of the wards on the newer artifacts. I learned about wards on my third week in the museum and I’ve been the ones creating them since. I-

Door opens

“Hello, little one.”

I- Apologies, who, who are you? I’m the Curator, er- Aidyn, my name’s Aidyn.

“I know exactly who you are, little one. I would be the one you call The Designer.”

Y-you’re the deity, The Designer? The deity? Talking to me… in my office? Am I dreaming?

“It was first my office, you know. And no, little one, don’t be afraid. This isn’t a dream.” laughs

I- Are you sure? Of course you’re sure. You’re a god… In my office… Your office… Talking to me…

“Like I said, don’t be afraid. I simply wanted to check on the new Curator with the intriguing aura.”

I’m sorry, I get the new curator thing, at least a little bit. You’re like the board, but a deity who started this place. But erm, my aura? What’s wrong with my aura? Is there something wrong with my aura? Oh dear-

laugh “No, no, you’re aura is simply interesting. There’s nothing wrong with it. It is almost the same as mine, erm, but fit into a mortal body. Sorry, that probably isn’t very comforting.”

strained no not really.

“Well, your aura is strong, but thin. Hmmm, I’m not the best at explaining, I’d leave that to my wife. laugh My aura is strong, but my body is weak, therefore it’s thin. Our aura’s are also the same color! Gold!”

Pardon me, I just need a moment. I don’t want to be rude-

“You’re not rude, don’t worry! I’m not stingy with manners or anything. Not a lot of things can disrespect me.”

deep sigh So, because I’m in a wheelchair my aura’s thin?

“Erm, kinda? It’s more like your aura was stretched thin when your body was injured. For a god of magic I kinda suck at explaining it, don’t I?”

Not to be rude, but yeah, you could do better. But it sounds like magic theory and magic theory is already hard to understand, you’re doing a good job.

“Thank you, little one. Like you, I have weak body. I was injured and-”

Wait, sorry, hold on. Can gods get injured? Feel pain? Stars above this would be new to the world! Most people haven’t even talked to gods unless they’re witches with their patrons!

“Slow down there. Do people really not talk to gods a lot? I make a habit to visit my little ones. Huh, expect more gods around the museum! This is one of my greatest achievements!”

So… there’s going to be… more gods at my place of work? That is going to be… something. Erm, you called me a little one and you said you always visit your little ones… Does that make you my patron or something?

Laughs mysteriously, like seriously, all cryptic like “You’ll figure it out soon, the smart ones always do.”

Everyone takes the chance to be cryptic when they can, don’t they? Even gods.

“Yes, yes we do.” joyfull laugh

So, let me summarize. You’re the designer, the deity of magic and you created this museum-

“With my wife!”

Yeah, with your wife. You created this museum to house magical artifacts and you pretty much magically adopt some of the employees. I have almost the same aura as you and… You’re going to send gods to hang out around the museum?

“Pretty much! You are taking this very well!”

I’m screaming on the inside, however, since you started this place you’re basically my boss which means the panic attack can come when I get home.

“That- Okay. Um, stay healthy? What’s a mortal farewell?”

Goodbye usually suffices.

“Okay then! Goodbye! I’ll see you soon Curator!”

fwoosh

I uh, sigh I think my notes on the display can be redone. I’m going home. I don’t even think a meal with my family would make me feel better right now and that’s saying something for my mental state doesn’t it? sarcastic laugh gods above, I hate magic sometimes.

You know what, might as well make this into personal notes. Well, personal notes it is. Apparently gods will be coming around so this might be the last personal notes with a hint of normalcy. Superb. But hey, it’ll be interesting I guess. I’ll learn new things, maybe get the god’s stories documented in their own words. I’m a little scared though, who wouldn’t be if they were just told by a god that they had- It doesn’t matter. I’ll deal with it later.

I’ll have to tell the staff about this, I don’t want them caught off guard. I’ll bring it up before I leave today. Or maybe I should pick up sweets or something to break the news?

Crap, what if some gods want their artifacts back? I mean, we’d have to give it to them, it was theirs in the first place, but… It’s still our work. Plus, it takes a lot of money to retrieve those artifacts… But still, it is their artifact. I think I’ll deal with that when the time comes. sigh

Spirits are good in the staff, which is always nice. There’s no drama that I know of and believe me, I would know.

I think that’s it. I’ll see you later, notes end.
