I'm working on a small but powerful crime syndicate whose leader is obsessed with strategy; as a child, his favorite game to play was chess, and because of that, his little group is themed off of chess pieces. His group holds exactly 16 members at any given time; if one gets killed or compromised, he replaces them. Each person is given a role which corresponds to the chess pieces they represent.

E.G., there are 8 "pawns," 2 "knights," 2 "bishops," 2 "rooks" or "castles," 1 "queen," and 1 "king." Each of these roles fulfills a different purpose. He, of course, is the King of the board, and as long as he stays a step ahead of his enemies, they can never checkmate him. Even the pawns, however, are incredibly valuable to him, despite being the lowest of the ranks; not just anyone can join as a pawn.

Unlike the leaders of most crime syndicates, he is incredibly kind to those on his team, so long as they don't betray him or compromise the group.

I would like to do a roleplay that involves this group. There a few options to how we could go about this, but here are a few ideas:

For OxO

  • You play multiple characters that are of various roles within the syndicate. Are they all loyal to the King, or do some plan to overthrow him? Is one of the pawns determined to take things into their own hands and betray him? Will others protect him, or will he get caught in a Checkmate?

  • You are an enemy crime syndicate who battles with mine, but perhaps the leader of your syndicate and the King start to develop a alliance of sorts, maybe even a friendship, maybe even something more. Are the King's feelings real, or is this just another strategy in the never-ending game he plays?

  • Your character is an expert in a certain area of crime and have been involved in the underworld for some time. They have heard of the King and his Chess Board, but the group is mostly just a legend to them, a myth. That is until the King himself approaches them and asks them if they'd like to join his group. Do they accept? Do they trust the King, or are they leery? What happens if they develop a liking for him? Or… vice versa?

For Small Group

  • About 3 to 6 people. We could split the members of the syndicate and each play different ones, or use any of the above prompts and alter them slightly to fit all our characters.

Feel free to suggest any cool prompts for either.

For this RP…

  • I would like dynamic character interactions, please. You can play one character or multiple (please let me know at the beginning how many you intend to use, but you can always add more in later), but please do not overwhelm yourself with more than you can. I prefer your characters be well-written/presented. I am always down to dynamic relationships between characters, whether it be enemies, friends, lovers, or several of those throughout phases.
  • I will have several characters; the King will be my main, but I will also have others that will come and go throughout the RP. If you have multiple characters or we do a small group, I am probably willing to do ships with all your guys' characters if you want.
  • I love in RP drama, so if it's realistic to start it, please feel free! Just don't make your character OP or untouchable. Don't auto-hit, but don't just magically dodge everything either. Try to keep a realistic balance. If your character doesn't have great hand-to-hand skills but is a great shot, make him get his nose busted but let him snipe someone in the head. If your character is basically a ninja but knows nothing about technology, don't let him magically hack something when he couldn't, aight? But feel free to have jerk-wad characters who stir up crap. Just don't do it outside of RP or I'll shun your sorry hide. ^-^ We're spose to be friends here.
  • I love idea suggestions, so shoot for it. Worst I can do is say I'm not really feelin' it.
  • No supernatural characters or superpowers please.
  • There is a trigger-warning for violence, gore, suspense, death, blood, and similar things. If you have a problem with this, let me know and I will do everything in my power to keep it from making you uncomfy.
  • There will be no sex scenes, vulgar talk, or anything explicit, but there may be references to themes such as rape (though there will be NO scenes involving such) or innuendos.
  • Language must be PG-13 or less. No f-bomb, no g-d, no exception.
  • Respect me and I'll respect you. If we do a group, respect everyone— please and thanks.
  • Your responses don't have to be long, but they have to have something I can respond to.
  • If you're interested, you can post here or DM me. It's up to you.

I will explain more about the roles once someone shows interest, but here they are:

Pawns— 0/8
Bishops— 0/2
Knights— 0/2
Rooks— 0/2
Queen— 0/1
King— 1/1: Taken by Me

I will also be making at least 2 more characters to fill a couple roles, but I haven't decided which ones I want yet.

(This sounds incredible! The concept is so fascinating, and as a fan of chess, the whole strategy aspect is super appealing. I’d love to join, assuming this is still open!)

(Yes please. I would greatly appreciate a writing sample. ^-^ And yes, I'm better at OxO dynamics as well, just because I can focus on RPing with one person at a time better rather than multiple.)

(Awesome! Looking forward to it)

He took the job regardless, at the innocent age of thirteen— signing the papers on a sweet summer day in 1954. He was to live with Arsenau for a few months, offering help where he could. To be completely honest, Eliot was intrigued at the start. Prior to ever meeting Arsenau, he began reading up on some supernatural phenomena, for the sake of widening his own pool of knowledge. He had finished The Crucible just a day ago, and currently held The House of the Seven Gables in one hand, and his suitcase in the other. He had his trolley pass between his teeth, angling his head up as high as he could while the man at the door punched a small hole through the exposed paper. Luckily on his long ride, he was able to finish the book, but it left him feeling about as indifferent as The Crucible did. Although, he was glad it offered a little more mystery, instead of being just a gallimaufry of pretense and misunderstandings.

The first time Eliot saw his new mentor was right after he stepped off the bus. El could only describe his aura as radiating juvenile glee, or— in simpler terms— immaturity. The adult’s eyes glimmered with curiosity, and he rocked back and forth with his hands in his pockets like some impatient child. Frankly, Eliot was hoping that wasn’t the man he was supposed to meet with, but the name tag placed so haphazardly on his right suspender left El with a pit in his stomach.

(Thank you! I’m very happy to hear that :D. And in that case, pertaining to this rp, I’d probably want to play about 2 or 3 main characters in total, but I’d also be alright with taking up a few secondary characters that won’t be the main focus if I need to. Is that alright? (of course, if we end up doing the first option for the oxo rps) But i’m honestly fine with any of those initial ideas!)
