"You can call me Isabel." she said. She then turned to Maria. "You never said your boyfriend was such a handsome young man! And so polite." she said. Maria looked stunned, as she had never said Havenwood was her boyfriend. This was unexpected.
Havenwood grinned hastily and shook his head. "We're not together. I'm interning her." He felt himself go a little red nevertheless.
"You don't need to be so modest, I won't be an annoyance." Maria's mother winked.
Havenwood felt the redness get faintly more intense. "No, it's really just-"
"I must tell your papá! Finally you might get a husband, you've been putting it off far too long. You're not a young woman anymore, Maria. It's time you though about the future. Oh, I'm so excited, I'm going to have grandchildren!" she said, rushing back inside.
"Oh… um… my… She seems… very nice." Havenwood blinked several times, trying to restrain himself from laughing.
"She's going to be arranging the wedding next." Maria said, entirely serious.
"R-really?" There was a laugh stifling his voice. "Oh… you're… you're serious?"
"Yes. I actually am quite serious."
"O-oh…" Havenwood cleared his throat.
"Don't worry, Papá will talk some sense into her. I hope."
"By the sounds of it they both want you to get married… Shall we go inside?"
Havenwood followed her into the home and looked around.
A very tall young man, who looked almost exactly like Maria walked into the room. He had a sleek black ponytail and glasses. "Maria! I heard you had a boyfriend, but Mamá most likely overreacted. Again." he said. "Havenwood, this is Pedro. Pedro, Havenwood." Maria smiled.
Havenwood bowed respectfully. "Nice to meet you, señor."
"Nice to meet you too. So, are you Maria's boyfriend or not?"
"Ah, no. I'm interning her. I don't think she likes me in that way." He smiled.
"She might like you that way, who knows?" Pedro grinned slyly.
Havenwood shook his head and felt himself grow warm in the cheeks. "I sincerely doubt it."
"I'm just sayi-argh!" he yelped as Maria tackled him.
Havenwood looked at the wall, wondering if he could transform into a potted plant or something.
"Okay, okay! I get it! Now stop tackling me!" Pedro said, shoving Maria off. "Don't joke about stuff like that, or else." she glared.
Havenwood scratched the back of his head, spotting a squirrel out the window. If there's a dog wondering by here I could maybe… No! Not in the mortal realm.
(Um, didn't you post that earlier? No offense….)
(No…? What makes you think that?)
(WAIT THAT WAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT WHAT THE HECK?)
