hello! hi! i'm interested in developing my boy paike and i have an idea i think might be fun if someone would be interested!!

characters with magical or abnormal abilities are preferred! if that character could be considered overpowered (but not to the point that it seriously takes the fun out of fighting), even better! let's not one-hit-k.o. everything we come across, but there's a reason our characters are being hunted down by the government lol

ok so! idea! our characters are the only two people in the world who have unique abilities that make them immensely powerful compared to the average human being. i'm talking like, if we really wanted to, we could probably destroy the world. the world knows we exist, and the world is very much so uncomfortable with the idea that its fate rests in the hands of the moral compass of two delinquent young adults, so naturally the world government is tracking us down with the intention to capture and most likely kill us to neutralize the threat. we are constantly on the run, never sleeping in the same place twice and watching each other's backs for any potential threat, and from our unique predicament our relationship can grow in any direction we think would be best, for better or for worse.

some pointers:

  • if romance is the route you'd like to pursue, i'd like it to be built off of a strong friendship first since it'd be a tad ooc for paike to go headfirst into a romantic relationship. also, nothing nsfw please! i'm not comfortable writing the more steamy stuff.
  • please provide a writing sample if i haven't rp'd with you before! i can provide a sample upon request :D
  • i'm not picky at all about writing length, all i ask is that you write enough to give me something to respond to!
  • i reserve the right to say no, and so do you!
  • swearing and gore are fine. there's going to be a bit of violence and action, and likely some very dark moments.
  • this is a modern setting with society similar to real life.

and here's the template, with paike used as an example!

Full name: (first, optional middle, last)
Age: (if you want to do romance, they cannot be under 18 and i'd prefer the age gap to be three years at most!)
Gender:
Orientation:
Physical appearance: (description or picture!)
Personality summary:
Abilities: (why are they considered a global threat?)
Background: (optional!)
Unique features/trivia: (anything extra that makes your character themselves! also optional.)
____________

Full name: Paike Orion Sur
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Orientation: Biromantic demisexual
Physical appearance: Caucasian, stands at 5'10" and weighs 155 lbs. Has shoulder-length sun-bleached blonde hair that he'll put up in a variety of styles, but is most often seen with a bun and some hair clips. Both ears are pierced: right ear is decorated with a golden stud and helix, left ear has a purple drop earring with a crescent moon charm and an industrial bar. From all the running he does he has very strong legs and incredible endurance. Not much upper body strength. His left eye is a deep blue, his right a bright yellow.
Personality summary: Energetic and a powerful creative force, probably the most chaotic neutral you can get. Embraces change and even considers himself a harbinger of it, lives life as a completely free spirit and does what he wants, when he wants, which poses a problem in more ways than one. Can be a bit self-absorbed and would rather die than do as he is told. Is also unpredictably impulsive and will do wild or even dangerous things on a whim just for the sake of it. His constant need for freedom stems from a deep-rooted fear of being restrained, however, and is therefore not likely to form close bonds with people; but when he does, that bond is nearly unbreakable. His madness is split between quiet, calculated logic and pure, unfettered emotion, and he struggles with this duality often.
Abilities: Is able to harness the energy of the sun and the moon; what he's capable of is influenced directly by what time of day it is wherever he's located. During the daytime, Paike can refine the sun's energy into bursts of tangible sunlight that can either illuminate or incinerate, and can condense that sunlight to form what he calls pocket suns that are smaller, but more effective in what he chooses to do with them. During the nighttime, Paike is able to disperse the heat of objects and organisms, able to freeze liquids, condense gasses, and kill via hypothermia if he wanted to – though the energy required to is incredibly taxing, so he prefers not to.
Background: (still figuring this out, honestly. nothing is set in stone and i hope i might get some ideas for it in the rp? but the gist is that reason he craves independence and freedom so much is because his parents were incredibly religious — some denomination of christianity — and saw who he was and what he was capable of as a product of the devil. they restricted everything they could but he'd constantly fight back, and it got so bad that they just gave up and bound and blindfolded him, leaving him locked in his room in the hopes he'd starve and they wouldn't have to worry anymore. he escaped, did a bunch of things with his newfound freedom, got into so much trouble and brought so much attention to himself that the world government saw him as a global threat and intend to neutralize it. he's been on the run since he was 15.)
Unique features/trivia: His abilities are completely unusable while unable to see, whether his eyes are closed, he's blindfolded, or he's in pitch-black darkness. As long as his eyes are able to absorb and process light, he can use his abilities.

hi hi! welcome! i feel that omg

heck yeah you can join! could i see a sample of your writing?

@ElderGod-Carrots

If it's not what you're looking for/if you need another sample I'm happy to provide.

The body had been mutilated so terribly it was nearly unrecognisable. The young male was missing his right leg, ripped clean off. A chunk was missing from his left, though most of the limb was still present. Someone had dug out his insides, leaving them sprawled by his feet in a manner that could only described as less then delicate and his arms, one bent in entirely the wrong direction and the other missing a hand on his left side. His throat had been slit, three large claw marks digging right to the bone. Dark red blood spilled down his face from where he was missing an eye and his tongue, gone from his mouth.
The body had been left on a rooftop overlooking the Thames. One would never have even found the boy’s broken body had the owner of the building not wanted a smoke so early in the morning. The man hadn’t been expecting to see the body of a mutilated teenage boy but then again, no one would.

It was the dead of night when the body was found on that building. The owner hadn’t understood the severity of the damage until he had found a lamp to properly illuminate the wounds with the help of the moonlight.
It was uncommon to see a body so disturbingly brutalised and it had taken the man a few moments to come to his senses, rushing into the building to change into something more suitable then his nightwear and a robe. His wife had awoken by his antics and questioned him thoroughly to which he only replied with a shake of his head and a simple, ‘Tis not a matter for a woman, only for the police this is.’

But the truth was the man did not know if the police would be able to help. From what he’d seen the boy would be hard to identify, and there had looked to be no footprints or signs of life around the body. But then again, he could have ben dead awhile, it was a miracle he hadn’t heard the boy scream.

oo looks good! rad! all that's left now is the template and we can brainstorm how this begins, unless brainstorming first would help you pick the character?

Deleted user

mk!! i've got a couple ways we could start this out, and feel free to share ideas you have!

  • our two characters have been caught and they either bump into each other while trying to escape or one frees the other while they're escaping
  • one is being chased and the other offers shelter in their hideout for the time being
  • one has heard of the other's existence and actively seeks them out
  • they've already met and are in the middle of something, whether it's being chased or packing their bags and relocating or taking the time to get to know each other a bit better, or maybe even sparring with their abilities to keep them sharp
  • they're fighting each other, either like an argument or an actual physical fight

sounds good!! i think all that's left is the template and then we can start? unless there's something else you wanted to sort out first :0

@ElderGod-Carrots

Full name: Lucas Erbosol
Age: 18
Gender: male
Orientation: bisexual
Physical appearance: Caucasian, stands around 5'6/5'7. He's a small male, lean, wiry however still fit. Very much a female dancer type figure. Freckled lined skin. He has light brown, fluffy hair that's slightly curly/wavy. He has a heart shaped face with a slightly defined jawline and nose. Pink lips and blue eyes with gold and green. He has a concentration of freckles across his nose and a natural blush to his face. He has a scar across his neck and one on his left cheek. Always wears a silver and black ring on his right hand. When he uses his powers, his eyes turn a complete black.
Personality summary: Puts up more of a detached front then he actually is. Tries to keep his emotions at bay however with him being a sensitive person unfortunately that doesn't work all too well sometimes. Introverted, likes to keep to himself and his own company. Does crave positive attention from someone he lives however there's no one to give it to him at the moment. Intelligent. Good at thinking on his feet to get himself out of troubling situations. When he's left alone with his thoughts with too long, if he doesn't have something distracting him, he can get very caught up in his own head. Worries quite a lot too. Really is just a big softie at heart.
Abilities: Lucas has the ability to command shadows and darkness. He is able to manipulate them into physical weapons and objects that he can use to his defense, can also warp shadows into figures that will do what he likes (when they listen). He can basically teleport using the shadows to places if he knows what the location looks like however this is very, very draining and he hardly ever uses this aspect of his power. His ability is stronger at night, when the shadows and the darkness is the strongest. During the day he has limited control and use however depending on the place depends on how strong his powers actual are. He can also mind read but he isn't very good at it and is able to turn people to shadows when his powers are at their peak - this barely happens so he hasn't had a chance to use this power yet.
Background: Grew up in an abusive household with his dad and his step mum. Suffered from bullying when he was at school as well. He knows he has an older brother and mum but doesn't know where they are as they left when Lucas was born. He tried to commit suicide at 14 however failed. Packed up and left home shortly after that. Unfortunately after an incident with a police officer the government found out about his powers and has been trying to evade them since.
Unique features/trivia: A downside to his powers is the fact that shadows tend to have a mind of their own sometimes and tend to talk to him. This has led to many a good and terrible conversation. Oh and he loves cats.

LOOSE SHADOWMANCER — HOW SAFE ARE WE?

Paike stared at the newspaper's headline for what felt like ages, eyes wide in shock and mouth slightly agape. He could hardly believe it; someone else was out there, just like him.

Well, not just like him; that'd be rather boring, in his opinion. He skimmed the article, hoping to have a name or a description or even whereabouts for this individual, flipping through pages and discarding a sheet of the paper that had nothing to do with the article he was enraptured by. And, then, he found a paragraph detailing what this person looked like; small figure, two scars on his neck and cheek, light brown hair, light skin, blue eyes. Definitely not the image that had conjured in his mind when he first read the word shadowmancer, but that was arguably a good thing, considering how active his imagination was.

The only information given about their location was that they were in the same general area as him. He could work with that. Paike folded the newspaper and slipped it into one of the pockets of his shorts, peeking out from the alleyway he'd stowed away in. It was in the dead of night and the streets were empty, which was both a blessing and a curse — the shadows kept him concealed, but any wrong move and the whole area would hear it. He'd have to be careful.

As he found hold of some uneven structure in the house he intended to scale, his mind went elsewhere. To find someone else like him would be.. complicated. He was excited, yes, but that was him. Would the other person appreciate being found? Would he ever find them? What if he did, where would they go from there? If the agency after him ever caught up to him, they'd have the other person they were after with him as well. It was dangerous. But so was he, and maybe if they worked together, they'd have a better chance of surviving together than they might have alone.

But more than anything, even with as much as Paike had come to love his life unfettered from society, it was still a lonely life. He never thought he'd see the day where his preference for independence would shift, and the thought of it made him chuckle. Change wasn't a foreign concept to him.

As he reached the roof of the home, he sat himself on the edge, clinging his satchel of belongings close to him as he scanned the shadows beneath him, hoping to catch a glimpse of movement. He was pretty out in the open, but the quiet of the world now beneath him assured him that the chances of anything coming of it were slim. It was nighttime, anyhow; he certainly didn't have as powerful as an offensive as he might have in the day, but that didn't make him any less of a threat at night. He'd just have to take more extreme measures, which, admittedly, he wasn't looking forward to. To match his power in the day took almost twice as much energy in the night.

But that was later, this was now. And now, he watched the roads beneath to see if chance would favor him tonight.

@ElderGod-Carrots

Lucas new he had to move fast. Get out of town and find somewhere else to stay. Now he was in the papers, he couldn't stay, everyone would be looking for him, trying to turn him in. He knew moving at night worked in his favor. He was practically invisible with the amount of shadows around, keeping him safe, hidden. No one would know he was there unless they were looking really close.

Most of the town was asleep at this point, it was late after all. A perfect time to move. It wasn't like Lucas had any other choice, he knew he didn't. He had to leave tonight.

Shadows curled around him, blending into the shadows, becoming one of them. Admittedly their whispers were become quite a nuisance and not a help tonight but it wasn't like he could just shake them off. Not when he needed them and they were everywhere. He'd come to learn that shadows have minds of their own, they like to talk to those who can hear them and unfortunately, Lucas was one of those people. Sometimes it was a comfort when he was lonely, other times they just made everything worse.

The small male made sure that his hood was pulled up over his head and his mask was covering his face. It helped when trying to blend in. Lucas maneuvered through the back streets before finding an old fire escape, making quick work to start climbing up and onto the roof tops. More open, but he was small enough and dark enough to not be noticed.

After a good ten minutes of absentminded staring, it finally occurred to Paike that his chances of finding someone able to manipulate shadow during the night were slim to none, and he huffed in irritation to himself as the realization struck him. Sitting here watching would be no good; even if the individual was there, Paike sure as heck wouldn't be able to see them. Of all his odd tricks and abilities, night vision wasn't one of them.

He shuffled through his satchel to retrieve a worn bottle, opening it and chugging a bit of water. Then, he frowned, discontent with its temperature, and the hand clutching it began to emit a chilled mist, akin to exhaling during cold weather. He swirled the bottle, a few small clunks sounding the presence of ice, and took another drink, much happier. He wasn't picky about his water, but he liked to take advantage of the small benefits his abilities gave him.

Well, not much worth waiting here any longer, he decided. Paike stored the bottle back into his satchel, standing up and dusting his hands on his shorts. He took a breath, stretching outwards and grimacing as his calves began to smart. He'd spent the day before nightfall on the run, having a close encounter with the Ivory Syndicate and just barely, just barely avoiding a bullet to the chest. Just thinking about it got him all wired again; he could hardly believe he'd made it out. But he did, and if his search efforts became more mobilized, he might find someone else to share a near-death experience with.

He scanned the rooftops keenly, looking for an ideal spot to jump to, only to spot movement — an amorphous shape clambering onto one of the roofs. Paike, for a moment, panicked, not wanting to be discovered, and dropped to the ground, scrambling towards the nearby air conditioning system and hiding behind it. He clutched a hand to his chest, wide-eyed and his breathing heavy. Had he been seen? When he regained his composure, he carefully peeked around the corner of the A.C., watching the figure on the rooftop carefully.

@ElderGod-Carrots

With almost cat like ability Lucas swung himself up onto the roof. A move he’d done many times in the past few years and one he could now easily execute. He let the shadows disappear from around his face, the slim part of his face that could be seen in the moon light almost glowing with how pale he was.

Maybe he’s go to the country. It was pretty out there, quiet, away from everything that might kill him. And he could see the stars better. It was a sliver of comfort.

Those thoughts were pushed away when Lucas saw movement out the corner of his eye. If he hadn’t been on alert he wouldn’t have noticed. He turned his body slowly, narrowing his eyes at where the movement had come from.

Lucas made sure he was ready if whoever it was, was about to attack. He hoped it was just a bird or a cat.

Paike's gaze never wavered, observing the figure before him and squinting to try and make out their features. Didn't look like a member of the Syndicate — not to him, at least. They wore white, usually, and the moon would have made that very clear.

Maybe he could take a chance. He fumbled for the newspaper in his pocket and unfolded it, rising slowly from behind the A.C. with his hands in the air to indicate all that was on his person was the newspaper.

"Hey!" he announced in the loudest whisper he could, hoping his voice would carry. "You get the same idea I did, hiding up on the roof?"

It was probably a bad idea to reveal his purpose to a complete stranger, but a small part of him hoped he was dealing with that shadow person.

@ElderGod-Carrots

Lucas furrowed his brows when the other spoke, taking in what he said. Was it worth replying? They could be working for the Syndicate, the government, trying to lure him in. Even with his doubts he still crept forwards just a little, just so he didn't have to talk as loud and risk getting them both caught.

"Possibly," He replied, narrowing his eyes softly, "Why would you need a reason to hide on the roof?"

Unless… Lucas had heard a brief mention of someone else like him, a while back, with abilities. The chances of the other being that person was slim, next to none. The country was big and they could be anywhere. Being together at the same place at the same time was a massive chance with a low probability. He was quick to push those thoughts aside for the sake of not being disappointed later.

Paike approached the edge of the roof he was standing on, holding out the newspaper, though he was doubtful the fellow across from him could read its headline, given their distance from each other and the time of day. So he decided he'd take a gamble.

Not many people climb up to the roof just for the sake of it, especially during the night, where something like that would be seen as suspicious. And if he were a thief, to make all that effort to climb to the roof when doors and windows were more easily accessible made little sense. Paike had climbed to the roof to get a good view of what was below him, and, however dangerous it may be, he was willing to bet the fellow before him was up here for a similar reason.

"I-I think it'd be easier to show you why than to tell you," he decided, dropping the paper and pulling out his bottle of water. With one hand he held the bottle, while the air around the other began to condense into a chilled mist. He poured the contents of the bottle into the freezing hand, and the second it made contact the water froze. He then dropped the now chunk of ice onto the ground, it shattering into pieces and melting again.

"I'm a bit weird," he added with a chuckle and a grin. "I heard someone else out there was weird, too, so I'm taking a chance right now, hoping you're the weird person."
