"Charlotte." She smiled, reaching into the cash register and getting change for the girl.

“No change.” She smiled, taking a sip of the coffee and perking up immediately. “Thank you, I needed this.”

"No change? It's been a while since I've heard that." Charlotte explained. "People get generous during holidays, but other than that there's never 'no change'."

“I guess I’ll have to make it a habit then.”, she laughed, tugging absentmindedly at her navy sweater sleeve. I probably should’ve worn something more feminine..

"Thanks, but I really can't do that. After someone does it a few times it makes me feel guilty."

Lola shrugged. “As you please.” She indicated to the game boy. “You game?”

"All the time. Next week there's a tournament going on and I'm competing."

“That’s cool! I game every now and then, but I prefer digital art.”

Charlotte nodded. "I would totally do digital art if I could draw." She chuckled. "I can't draw to save my life. I can create some pretty cool Etch A Sketch drawings though, if that counts."

“Etch A Sketch?” Lola furrowed her brow. “What’s that?”

She looked at Lola like she'd sprouted an extra head. "You don't know what an Etch A Sketch is? Hold on…" Charlotte disappeared through a door in the back for a few seconds before emerging with a red square-shaped game in her hands. "It's the best." She began moving the dials on the side.

Lola’s eyes widened as she saw lines carving their way upwards. “Whoah!”

"See?" Charlotte turned the line a few times, creating a square.

She grinned. “Can I try?”

"Sure." She responded simply, handing the Etch A Sketch to Lola.

Lola fiddled with the dials for a minute, forming a slightly sloppy and lopsided simplistic flower.

Charlotte smiled at it, taking her phone out and taking a picture of it.

Lola brushed her overgrown bangs out of her face, taking a strep back to give Charlotte some space. “Got any cinnamon rolls?”, she asked.

Her stomach growled at her. "Yeah. We make the best cinnamon rolls ever." Charlotte walked to the back again and brought Lola a fresh cinnamon roll, using a napkin to hold it.

“Thanks.”, Lola said gratefully, paying. “I should come here more often.”

"You should. A little heads up, it gets crowded on Sunday afternoons."

“Thanks for that.” She took a bite. “This is good! Anyways, do you work here every day?”

"I'm off Saturdays, but otherwise I work after school until five."

“Are you in college then? University, maybe?”

Charlotte chuckled. "No. I'm in high school still. I'm seventeen."

“You look older! I’m almost nineteen, I moved here for college about a year ago.”

"I would love to go to college here, but it doesn't focus on what I want to major in." Charlotte leaned against the counter.

“And what’s that?” Lola scratched at the strap of her binder absentmindedly.

"Secondary education. I want to be a high school math teacher."

“That’s cool! I’m studying to be a marine biologist.”
