wouuld any of these work? i like the third:
1#) A mermaid wants to see what the high land (and humans) looks like. And her dragon friend is happy to take her on an adventure.
2#) The cliche pretty princess doesn't want to be saved from the dragon anymore. She's tired of the obnoxious,
sexist "Prince Charming" 'saving' her a multitude of times. Especially if it's taking her away from her best friend.
3#) No one knows that the ugly cat the princess has in court is actually a baby dragon, well, except for it's father.
(This one isn't really a romance unless you make it too be. So I'm just throwing it in just because XD)
4#) It wasn't until thousands of years later did humanity realize that dragon would do work in exchange for gold.

(sorry lol i ouldnt find it. what about we do the fourth one but then the girl goes to the draon to ask for some gold and she find out the drao is a shifter who later on, falls in love with her kinda like beauty and the beast?)
