(Oh no tense inconsistency- this is what happens when you’re responding to multiple rps at once ig 🙃 sorry!)

(Sorry I’m late to the show! I’ll write now!)

Libbi sat into a folding chair, her small figure bouncing. She looked around- this would be nuts. Her hair was wrapped into two space buns, glittering with multiple strange of shimmering hair tinsel- her signature. Whoever her roommate would be would have to buckle themselves up for a lot of glitter. Who would her roommate even be? Someone older, younger, a different species? The possibilities were nearly endless. She looked down at her pink platform sneakers, smiling at the bits of glitter. Her mind wandered back to rooms. What would they look like? How much clothing space was there? How much room would she have for her hundreds of stuffies?!

Once she reached the courtyard, Larissa waited off to the side for a moment longer. She studied the students mingling and decided to give them one more moment. Besides, it gave her a bit more time to compose herself. Just because Larissa Weems was good at public speaking didn't mean that she liked it. She despised it, in fact, and she only managed to summon up the courage for it on two schoolyear occasions: the start of term address and Outreach Day.

Suddenly, Larissa felt a hand graze her arm, and she looked down to see Marilyn staring up at her. "Larissa, what are you waiting for?" she asked quietly.

Larissa directed her gaze back to the students as she answered. "Just letting them settle in another moment or two. For some of them, this is their first year here." She turned back to Marilyn. "I expect you'll be a wonderful dorm mother to those lucky enough to be in Ophelia Hall."

Marilyn grinned. "Yes, of course. I'm honored to be as much a part of Nevermore as I can be."

Larissa nodded and straightened herself in preparation. She inhaled and strode out into view of the students, taking her place behind the little podium set up for the occasion. The crest of Nevermore was imprinted on the front, and Larissa stood proudly behind it.

Caspian saw movement towards the front of the courtyard out of the corner of his eye and he turned his stormy gaze to where the podium was. He saw a woman walking up to the podium, her presence radiating authority as she looked out at the students gathered before her.

This must be the principal, Cas thought, feeling both excitement and dread. He had no idea what to expect from Nevermore, and as much as he wanted to finally make friends, he knew he didn't come across as someone approachable or interesting enough to befriend. He really hoped that he would get a room all to himself so he wouldn't have the chance to screw up and ruin any chances of a friendship with the person unfortunate enough to be rooming with him.

He forced himself to stop fidgeting with his uniform and give the principal- Ms. Weems, right? his full attention. Even if he failed to fit in with his fellow students, he could at least make a good impression on the adults and be on their good side. Or maybe I should stop being such a teacher's pet. Would that make me cooler?

(Sorry for the short response, I didn't know what else to put)

The courtyard went silent as the head of the school walked up to the podium. Lyra looked up and swallowed. Deep breaths The school year was almost starting. We were so close.
Oh no, what if I don't like my roommate? What if I can't find my friends from last year? Maybe it's not too late to back out… I wonder why I'm here in the first place…. Mother and Father sent me here, but what am I learning, really? I'm much better at reading… Oh… when this is done, I can probably finish my book! Most likely, if I get enough quiet time…. Oh no oh no Ms. Weems looks like she's going to start speaking…

Nervously, Lyra straightened in her seat and forced herself to pay attention, instead of her brain going around in circles. She shook her head to clear off the lingering thoughts of fear and anxiety that filled her brain. Lyra pulled her phone out of her pocket to check the time, then set her phone in her lap, her legs bouncing up and down with anticipation.

First-day nerves didn't exist to Alastair. He was already familiar enough with the school, and he had his consistent friend group. There really wasn't anything that he thought would go wrong. Alastair stood at the edge of the courtyard- only because he had to be there, really, as Principal Weems went off on the same tangent she did every year.
He watched a bird fly lazily across the sky with envy. Why did it get to skip the talk, but he didn't?

Piper didn’t even bother to listen to Ms. Weems. She rolled her eyes and stared at the sky, playing with a piece of her hair. This probably isn’t important. I can eavesdrop on some other students later to find out if she says anything new. Her vacant expression made her inattentiveness extremely obvious, though her complete stillness was normal for her.
