“ dad said I was born damn near stillborn. Born in a lab he was able to use these same little ass bugs to build a skeletal system. Then one day I just started walking and talking.”

“Nanobots. They’re called nanobots. What was your father? What did he specialize in, if anything? I, myself, am a Nanotechnologist, and a mechanist. Hence, why I have so many nanobots and small machines. The AI are the biggest machines I’ve ever created, though they seem to have gotten bigger on their own.”

Malcolm grabbed his magnifying glass again, looking at all of the nanobots he could find.

(So, is there something wrong, or not, or is this one of those moments where I come up with something? I’m casual, however it goes, though I usually don’t mess with/modify other people’s characters. Or am I being impatient, lol?)

“ I'm not sure. I asked questions no answers were ever given. To him I was nothing more than a failed experiment. But i knew his team member was a nanotechnologist as well as he built the bots. “ hiro went on relaying any details he could give.

( you could find something I was just sparing time to think and give Malcolm a reason to fuck with hiro, since he kinda is just a fail project as said)

(Lol. I’m not sure if you noticed, as I was trying to be subtle, but Malcolm is enjoying every moment of Hiro’s pain. Basically, he sees Hiro as his latest experiment. And I was just wondering, because I honestly don’t know what to do, too many choices, and like I said, I usually don’t mess with other people’s characters)

Malcolm paused, thinking long.

“Is he still alive? How old did he seem?”

Malcolm pondered if he had known Hiro’s father, though the last time he had worked with others was in his early thirties, a hundred and twenty years ago.

(Though, I am brewing a few ideas on the ‘Malcolm fucking with Hiro’ part)

“ he was about 29 to 30 the last time I saw him, before the end. “ hiro yelped out “ FACK”. His Russian accent was heavy again. The nano bots had found the problem. A herd of other bots had collected all over his bones. Long since out of power.

@Serpentess health_and_safety language

“As in he was about thirty when the world went to shit?”Malcolm asked, unfazed by Hiro’s shriek.

The nanobots on Hiro’s spine abruptly flashed twice.

“Clean and repair. If possible, bring me a fragment, so I might figure out a way to fix it long term.”

The nanobot flashed twice again. Malcolm’s eyebrow rose, but he shrugged and poured more nanobots on his hand, pouring the reinforcements on Hiro.

All of the nanobots burrowed, cleaning the bones and repairing any damage they could find. When they were finished, they all re-emerged and dropped fragments in front of Malcolm before deactivating. The fragments seemed little bigger than a tiny pile of dirt or rice, but it was like gold to Malcolm.

He quickly placed the fragments in a spare vial he kept and examined the fragments with his magnifying glass.

“ the fuck did they do?” he said, his voice strained with pain. Slowly and gradually the red light shut off, turning into a dim blue. The same blue of his eyes

@Serpentess health_and_safety language

“You had a bunch of ‘dead’ nanobots piling up. Somewhat like how dead skin builds up, but instead on your skeleton. My nanobots cleaned the mess. And now, I am going to study the shit out of this to figure out what these nanobots were. First of all, whoever made them did a shitty job.”

Malcolm turned away, putting all of his own nanobots in the vial. He activated the last nanobot and set it on Hiro again.

“Keep an eye on the boy’s skeleton.”

He turned to Hiro.

“I’m leaving this last bot on you to monitor your skeleton. Don’t complain.”

He returned to studying the vial, picking apart the mechanics of the nanobots with ease. They were definitely primitive compared to his own designs.

( dude what if they were his design, just when he was more Naïve) hiro nodded. He yawned and pulled William close. He found sleeping easier with the cat near him.

“ about thirty right when the world ended?!” he swatted at Malcolm “ why are so damn interested “

Deleted user

“ he had just turned thirty when the world went to shit”

@Serpentess health_and_safety language

(Another idea, maybe Hiro’s father stole Malcolm’s old design. Or he could be a descendant of a coworker that had stolen Malcolm’s designs. shrug)

Malcolm turned away, eyeing the dead nanobots. Something nagged at him. Something about these nanobots seemed way too familiar.

He eyed Hiro cautiously, then looked back at the nanobots. He sighed and took a deep breath, his mind still whirling.

“ Davis shimada “ hiro mumbled. He had a traumatized look on his face “ his name was Davis shimada”

@Serpentess health_and_safety language

“Fuck!”

Malcolm narrowed his eyes in thought, thinking back to the vague era in his life where he was but a simple scientist, and whole. He remembered a Shimada.

Malcolm started to laugh and the vial slipped out of his hand, landing with a light thunk on the ground. He glanced down, noticing two fragments had moved to appear as a whole nanobot. It was indeed a familiar design, because it was his own.

“I can’t remember if I knew your father, or your grandfather, but I knew one of them. It’s been so many years. Did I work with him or did he fucking steal my design? Fuck! I don’t remember!”

He turned to Hiro, heaving a long, frustrated sigh.

“Well, I think you could probably consider me an evil uncle of sorts. I designed the nanobots in your body. And I was shit at designing them until I hit my seventies.”

Deleted user

“…” his steely blue eyes focused on Malcolm. “ at least you can fix me if I break” he said

@Serpentess health_and_safety language

“Fix you? Fuck, I can upgrade you. Or I can give to the AI and they can upgrade you tenfold, if you want to lose your humanity. But, either way, fuck it.”

Malcolm stood, grabbing his tool and vials and setting them on the counter. He disappeared in the back for a moment, returning with several machines and more tools.

He grabbed his chair and sat down, studying the dead nanobots and comparing them to the several versions he had now, looking for a way to integrate the new design into the old.

“And, if you do get hungry, there’s a nest of annoying mutated birds on the roof. I fucking hate them, but they’re rather delicious when well cooked.”

(You know, this is the nicest Malcolm has ever been to anyone after he became a cyborg. Which, to me, is fucking hysterical)

@Serpentess health_and_safety language

A little while passed before Malcolm had finished his studying and had come up with an upgrade of sorts. He snickered.

“You want to know something that I find funny. Those little spies that you were destroying before you first arrived. They’re the ones you’re compatible with.”

Malcolm laughed and held up a vial with a few freshly made nanobots for Hiro to see.

“I’ll introduce these guys first, to see how your body reacts to an improved form of nanobot, then integrate the spy. I doubt much will change in you, though you’ll most likely not have near as many issues as you’ve had.”

Malcolm left out the part that he would be able to link with Hiro and see through the boy’s eyes, but Hiro didn’t need to know that.

Hiro nodded. “ okay..” he watched the man carefully. “ this won't effect my power or anything will it?”

@Serpentess health_and_safety language

“It might make the after effects a bit less taxing, but otherwise I honestly couldn’t say. I don’t fuck with any sort of magic bullshit, don’t care for it, so that’s about all I know.”

Malcolm moved over and released the nanobots on Hiro’s back. They burrowed into his spine, setting next to the other nanobots and causing a reaction that made the old nanobots evolve to mimic the new ones.

Malcolm waited patiently, curious what would happen.
