Okay here goes
Our characters, just normal people, get transported by way of canoe into a southern style Utopian society where people can never say bad things about what's happening around them. Only positive things! :D
So obviously our characters, coming from a society where you can speak your mind (sort of), they think that they should do something to break these people out of their haze of contentment, cus everything is certainly not alright.
