Okay, so I'm working on a novel, and I need to flesh the main characters out some more.
This story is set in a dystopian future America. The country has been devastated by a series of large-scale natural disasters. The Yellowstone Geyser erupted, devastating America just as predicted. Ocean levels rose around the coasts, just as predicted, and swallowing Florida as a whole, most of the California coast, and bits of the coast on both sides. Pollution rose indefinitely across the whole country, just as predicted, and devastated the ecosystem. Our story specifically follows a young pair of women in the lower Midwest, clawing and fighting to survive. With the rising level of death, destruction and chaos sweeping the nation, Government officials were at their wits end. They could have prevented this apocalypse had they simply given a shit. They were warned, this was predicted, and there were things they could have done to prevent it. Maybe not entirely, but on a much larger scale than they did. With the realization that they’d failed as a government, and the uprising of citizens, The officials of this world simply went AWOL. They disappeared, and had been gone a long while at the time this story takes place. Some were confirmed dead, some were outright killed, and the rest, who’d been MIA this entire time, were simply presumed dead. Either by the hand of the unresting citizens or by the will of nature. Possibly their own hand, or possibly their own stupidity. No one puts much thought to them anymore.
The plot I have in mind is that all of these characters meet and join together, if not out of rare goodwill, but out of self preservation. I kind of think it'd be cool for them to all be attacked by a group of people and join together to defend themselves and see where it goes, or maybe fight over resources

Appearance: Something like this. Cal is a tall and strong woman, the definition of butch lesbian. She is light skin black with freckles all over her face and shoulders. She has a septum piercing, a few upper cartilage piercings, and earlobe piercings. She has brown eyes with a long double gash through her left eye. She has rugged and punk-rock type taste, indie alternative type vibes.
Personality: She's a tough-and-rugged type of woman, strong, independent and bold. Occasionally a bit brash, and a natural pessimist. She is always a bit distrustful of peppy, optimistic people because she see's the friendliness as a trick. She will warm up to people though.

Appearance: Something like this. Lia is a pretty woman with dirty blonde hair, long over her shoulders and fluffy in her eyes, always a bit shaggy. She has pale and clear skin, save for intense eyebags and a long scar from her chin to below her right eye. She has cottage core lesbian vibes and artsy girl vibes as well. She wears a bandana like a scarf on her neck, and has a big green aviator jacket with a fur-lined hood.
Personality: Her optimism is remarkable and she always has a peppy smile on her face, even in the shittiest of circumstances. When she met Cal, who was skeptical of her bright personality, she refused to leave until she grew on the other, pessimistic woman.
