A tiny songbird peered out of its nest from a tree nearby. He had nested there in preparation for the ceremony, and felt rather uneasy. He knew he would be selected, but his Human would be disappointed.

(Ok, and is there a specific response order or can we respond whenever?)
At the moment it’s just whenever))
Blaze suantered into the circle, hidding his nerves behind a confidant smile as his thin tail flicked behind him. He could do this, he would get a cool familiar. Wait… What if I dont even get a familiar! he thought, panicking internally.
Winnie watched on, stunned by Blaze’s confidence. He wasn’t a fan of the impressive beasts around him. Actually, he was flat out terrified of them. He decided he didn’t mind the fox, although it still freaked him out a bit.
Blaze closed his eyes, opening them again and looking around. For a moment, he thought his fears had been confirmed. Until he heard a small hissing, the sound leading to a common looking, but extremely small, snake.
Nope! No, no, no! Winston was NOT a fan of snakes. He was freaked out by their beady eyes and fangs. It was too much for him. He prayed he wouldn’t end up with any kind of snake.
Lorcan looked around and locked eyes with the snake
Blake's eyes lit up, crouching down and holdinf out his arm for the snake to slither onto. "What's your name darlin?"
The witch narrowed her eyes. “Don’t take too long now! Out, out! There’s more to go!” She made the shooing gesture at Blaze.
Good morning everyone!))
(Morrrningnnnnnggg~)
I’m going to do our pairing thing now so everyone’s in the story))
(Yeet I'm ready.)
After five more people, the tall dorky teen was finally summoned as the name “Winston Ambrose!” was shouted out to the masses. He squeezed his way through the crowd apologizing nervously, his face red and blotchy from a mixture of anxiety and fear.
He stepped into the center of the circle, physically shaking, and was immediately blinded by the flash of light.
The light faded out. Nothing. A soft song near his feet brought his attention downwards, to a little bird hopping around with a blue feather in its bright orange beak.
Winston blinked, a little dazed from the flash of light. He knelt down slowly, his gaze on the small bird. The teen actually smiled in relief as he held out his hand. “Uh… hi there little buddy.”
The bird hopped up onto his hand, puffing himself out to looo extremely overweight and orb-like. It twittered through its feather, waving its tail feathers and hopping around on its human's hand.
Winnie smiled, getting out of the circle before the witch could yell at him. He stroked the tiny bird with his finger. “Er— I don’t know if you can talk or uh… well, how this all works, but my name is Winston. You can call me somethin’ else as long as it isn’t too mean.”
Rui set his feather down carefully and hopped around more.
"Hi, Winston. My name is Rui," The bird said in a sophisticated voice. "I brought this feather for you."
“Thank you!” Winnie seemed taken aback by the bird. “I think you’re the first one, besides my Ma, to give me a gift.” He tucked the feather behind his ear, maybe a little too excited about a simple feather.
Rui bowed happily, tweeting softly. "You are very welcome, Winston. It is my pleasure to finally have a Human." He fluffed out his feathers again, which sparkled in the light.
“I’ll try my best to be good to you. I’m really a… good wizard, but I’ll try.” He started to pet the bird again. “Your feathers are real pretty, Rui.”
Rui twittered softly and let his head be touched. "Thank you. I take great pride in them, like my family."
“You have a family?” Winston seemed to pale a little at this. “You don’t have to stay with me if you want. You ought to stay with them.”
"No, it was just my mother and father. I have no egg-mate. Don't worry," The bird said loftily, hopping around. "You are my Witch."
“Did you know you were gonna get picked? Or did you just get pulled from your nest?” Winnie still seemed concerned for Rui.
"I knew I was going to be picked, Witch, thank you for your concern," The bird replied, tweeting softly and sitting down, his wings fluffing.
Winston cupped his hands to make sure Rui was comfortable, watching the next witch, a boy named Oliver Horne, walk out of the circle with swan waddling behind him. “My Ma has a boar named Astra.” Winnie told the bird softly. “She can reverse gravity on small objects. Stopped me from breaking a lot of things when I was younger. Can… Can you do anything like that? No pressure if you can’t! I’m really happy I got lucky enough to get you.”
Blaze was muttering things to Tempest in his language, a small smile on his face. "Metronfi bersonr lfheo ojf ksdn." Which was roughly translated to… "How are you? Your name is Tempest, right? You're going to be a little storm cloud and you're going to grow up big and strong, I can feel it."

Rui looked up at his Human, twittering softly. "I can make you hear better. In fact, I think it happens when you first touch me. So you can hear a long way away, I think." The bird waved his head around happily.
