"You'll get used to it. You'll have to since we'll be in the ice cold water for fishing." Starlingbloom laughed, trotting out of camp with Lavenderwhisker. "We can cuddle when we get back."
~ Lavenderwhisker purred, "Cuddling sounds nice, but I don't think you'd wanna cuddle with me if im soaking wet." she mewed, "now about me getting into the cold water, you couldn't give me enough prey to get into freezing water!" She shivered at the thought of her pelt freezing and heavy with water. "but if it's just my paw….I guess that's alright, still won't like it though"
Starlingbloom rolled her eyes and kept walking. "Yeah, yeah… it'll be harder for you to catch anything if you're just reaching in. We're not bears. Our paws aren't really big enough."
Koipaw noticed Starlingbloom and Lavenderwhisker and changed his path so he'd pass them. As he got close, he nodded and flicked his ears in greeting. "What are you two doing out?" He smiled, placing his catch gently on the ground.
Starlingbloom nodded in greeting to Koipaw, her tail swaying from side to side. "We're going hunting. It looks like you've been doing the same." She purred softly. "You're welcome to join us if you'd like."
"Only if you're certain." Koipaw mewed. "I wouldn't want to- get in your way." His stumpy tail tried it's best to wave but just sort of moved around.
"I'm sure you won't get in the way. You're an excellent hunter, Koipaw." Starlingbloom kept walking, soon coming up to the river and looking into it.
Koipaw stammered for a bit, the compliment throwing him off guard, but he quickly shook himself, grabbed his fish, and bounded after the two she-cats.
Starlingbloom slipped into the water without hesitation and dove under, soon popping back up with a fish between her teeth. She dragged herself onto the bank to toss the fish into the grass before returning to the water.
Lavenderwhisker sat at the riverbank, she looked down at the fish Starlingbloom had caught. Her golden eyes immediately snapped back to the cold river. Lavenderwhisker secretly worried, she never really liked the river…..she bit her lip and her tail tapped against the snow covered ground. she gave a nervous chuckle as her eyes stood focused on the river, anxiously waiting or well, more praying to see the familiar black pelt of Starlingbloom emerge from the water. StarClan please don't let me get into the water! Lavenderwhisker thought, a quiet shaky sighed escaping her lips.
Starlingbloom brought back a few more fish before climbing out of the water and shaking out her fur, shivering uncontrollably. "It's… um… p-pretty cold…" She stammered.
Lavenderwhisker stood up and sorta sped-walked towards Starlingbloom, "That's why im not in the water!" she chuckled. "Like I said before, you couldn't give me enough prey to get me into freezing water."
Starlingbloom rolled her eyes and picked up a couple of her fish in her mouth. "Yeah, yeah… at least my fur's short, so I should dry out pretty quickly."
the white she-cat purred, "let's hope. I'm not gonna cuddle you if your soaked." looking over into the somewhat clear water she saw the shining scales of a fish swiftly swim by. "do you think I could catch a fish…without going in the river?" she asked, looking back at Starlingbloom.
Koipaw hesitated at the edge of the river, but slid fowards into the water. He emerged with a large fish but it fell out of his jaws to the ground and flopped its way back into to the river. "Ah, pidgeon feathers" He snapped.
"Mm… maybe, but it might be more difficult." She looked up as Koipaw lost his fish. "Don't worry too much, Koipaw. There's plenty of fish here. We'll be just fine."
Lavenderwhisker hummed, "I could try….." she padded closer to the edge, she hesitated to even sit down. so close….the river could sweep me away with the current! shaking the thought from her head she sighed. no….that wouldn't happen…. she subtly looked over at Starlingbloom who stood up at was watching. Starlingbloom wouldn't let me be swept away, she'd save me….. then she remember that she never even told Starlingbloom she couldn't even swim. It was stupid really, A RiverClan cat who can't even swim? now that's just crazy! she sighed as she sat down, looking at the semi-clear river once again. the white medicine cat stared at the water, she could see shiny pearls and rock at the bottom! like the ones RiverClan used to decorate their own masks for the leaf-bare ball.
don't mind meeeeeeee– I had this oc idea for awhile and decided to use it here on Lavenderwhisker! The idea is basically A RiverClan cat who can't swim. this may have been used before but eh, whatever lol))
Starlingbloom sat quietly by the bank of the river, watching Lavenderwhisker just in case things went awry. She'd never seen Lavenderwhisker hunt before, so she couldn't be sure how good the medicine cat was at it. "Do you see one?" She asked.
Lavenderwhisker turned to face Starlingbloom and slowly nodded, she shifted a bit so her shadow wasn't in the water. so just make sure your shadow isn't on the water! simple! lets just hope that I don't fall in…. she softly hissed as she whispered that she knew Starlingbloom would save her if she ever did fall in. feeling her claws dig into the snowy ground, she shifted, she didn't like the feeling of her claws out. it just felt strange to her. waiting carefully, she spotted the same shiny fish from before. alright….this should be easy! i've seen Starlingbloom and others do it multiple times before! still keeping her eyes on the fish, and also making sure she shadow wasn't on the water, she lifted her paw, her claw still unsheathed. In a flash, Lavenderwhisker slapped her paw down and into the ice cold water. she noticed the fish dart away, Lavenderwhisker yelped as she watched the fish swim off and widened her eyes as she lost her footing and fell into the freezing water. StarClan! No!
Starlingbloom trotted over and jumped in after Lavenderwhisker, grabbing the medicine cat by the scruff of the neck and dragging her to shore. "Y-You alright?" She asked softly, shaking out her fur again as she trembled.
Lavenderwhisker immediately dug her claws into the snowy ground when she has been brought back to land. "I-I….." she sat down and let out another shaky breath as she trembled from the fear and the sudden unwelcoming bitterly cold water. "I-I thought I was gonna….." she blinked, "I thought I was gonna….drown!" she screwed her eyes tight. "I….It was like my entire body froze! I was numb with fear and then t-the water!" she snapped her head at the water, she felt her claws dig deeper into the ground. "The water brought me b-back…I felt so….so….so vulnerable and helpless a-and" the molly shut her maw. I need to calm down! I should get back to camp. Maybe some poppy seed could help? "I….I think i'm g-gonna head back to c-camp….I think i need some poppy seeds…" she stumbled to her paws. Her pelt hung heavy with water and the uncomfortable expression one her face told a whole story.
"You know I wouldn't let you drown, darling." Starlingbloom grabbed her fish and trotted after Lavenderwhisker with a soft sigh. "I love you too much for that. You're strong, anyway. I'm sure you could've fought the current."
Lavenderwhisker shook her head, "I know I can't…." she mewed. "I couldn't even get into the water…" she felt Starlingbloom press into her. she just wanted to get back to RiverClan camp and rest. maybe by the time the leaf-bare ball rolled around she would feel better.
Starlingbloom sighed again and nuzzled up against Lavenderwhisker's side. "Maybe I can teach you how to swim once it's not freezing cold outside. How does that sound?" She asked.
Lavenderwhisker managed a small smile, "maybe."
