Sebastian turned as well, rounding the street corner with his hands firmly stuffed into his pocket once more. Well, that went…. surprisingly okay.. The beginnings of a smile began to form on his face, but he quickly dropped it. Keep your guard up.
"Where did you get all these birds?" he asked Edonine, taking an experimental sip of his wine. It was good, delicious, in fact, fizzing pleasantly as it went down his throat.
She smiled, going to look for the two boys.
"Well, I originally had four chickens. They just multiplied," she spoke.
"So, you have a rooster too?" Pierre asked, brow furrowing slightly. He shifted, smothering a wince and lifting the glass back up to his lips.
John rubbed his nose with discomfort, but masked it well. A skill he learned from soldierhood.
Jane noticed. She was a very perceptive girl. “John and I just wanted to stop in quickly,” she said. “There was a ruckus in the park so I figured we could stop in here for a moment for… safety.”
Eli looked very worried. “My dear are you alright?”
“Yes, we’re fine. But we must be leaving now,” Jane insisted.
"Are you sure?" John asked her quietly– just in case.
"Yes," she replied coolly, taking a seat beside him with ample space.
"Are you sure?" John asked her quietly– just in case.
Jane looked at him and smiled. “Yes, it’s fine.”
"Okay," he breathed, cast one more nice to meet you guys to the two men, and left with her.
Pierre's eyes flicked over the distance between them, two feet at most. "The wine is delicious, thank you. None for yourself?"
"I already had two glasses." She chuckled.
He couldn't help a grin. "And you're still completely sober? Wow."
She squinted with a glint of humor. "Are you underestimating my tolerance for alcohol?"
Pierre raised his hands in mock surrender, stifling a laugh.
"Mhm. Never question a woman's love for wine." She chortled cheerily, while Delta sasheyed over to sit on her lap.
"Sorry, sorry," he joked, brushing a lock of dark hair out of his forehead with a grin, able to move more easily now that a lot of the pain had died down.
She ran her fingers down Delta's feathery head. The bird shut its eyes with content.
He shifted his eyes to the gorgeous creature, itching to stroke him. "He's beautiful."
"He is," Edonine agreed, scratching her tanned cheek. "He's nearly ten,"
Pierre smiled, reaching out a hand and cringing in advance lest the bird burst into his screaming of gibberish again.
Since his mom was there, he didn't freak out.

Tentatively, Pierre stroked his soft head feathers.
"Have you ever seen a cockatoo?" Edonine asked.
Pierre shook his head no, a smile resting on his chapped lips. “Never.”
"They're basically feathered five-year-olds." She chuckled. "He and I.. We've seen a lot."
He tilted his head in askance, curious. "Like what?"
Edonine simply shook her head in response. She didn't want to talk about it.
Pierre withdrew immediately. "I'm sorry– I thought you meant 'a lot' as in– I don't know, interesting sights. Sorry," he apologized profusely, pulling back his hand.
She squinted curiously. "You're apologizing?"
