"I called it once the mission had been announced," Quincy mumbled with him, "I'm pretty sure we're all going down with an injury."
"I called it once the mission had been announced," Quincy mumbled with him, "I'm pretty sure we're all going down with an injury."
"Probably… No matter, I'll be as prepared as possible. That's all I can do," Pollux said, "I'm prepared for the worst, but I don't truly think the worst is going to happen."
"We say that, then watch the worst happen," Quincy sighed, "We're jinxed. Absolutely jinxed."
"Eh… Worst case scenario is everyone dies. Won't let that happen," Pollux promised.
Quincy gave him a quick smile, "Sounds good. No death today!"
Aurelius peered down into the cave and looked around.
"Everyone ready to get going? We're burning daylight."
Pollux gave him a thumbs-up. "I think so!" Then he turned to Quincy. "Well, here we go, I guess."
Quincy sighed and hopped onto Jade, "Indeed here we go. Let's hope it all goes better than expected."
Pollux carefully perched himself on Jade as well. He checked his bag one last time to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything.
Aurelius was outside by now, and Nox was flying in place a few dozen feet above the entrance. It was obvious he was anxious to get going and get this over with. After all, he wanted everything he knew back…
Jade walked out of the cave with the two riders on her back. She huffed slightly as Quincy looked to Aurelius, "Are the others out here already?"
(Uhhh idk, should we just go?)
Aurelius looked around; he was clearly preoccupied. "I'm not sure about everyone. Most of them are, at least."
(I don't know, lol)
"Aurelius, are you doing okay?" Quincy asked him. She looked around the vicinity readjusting herself on top of Jade.
"I'm a bit nervous, is all," he said, "The stakes here are really high. I doubt it's anything the rest of you aren't feeling."
Pollux shook his head. "Not like that, my guy. I'm feeling pretty cool and confident right now."
"I would say nervousness to the point of numbness is where I am," Quincy responded nonchalantly.
"Hm, I see… so I'm the odd one out."
Aurelius sighed. "I'm freaking out a tiny bit… This is everything I've ever known, gone. This is our chance to start getting some of it back. If we mess that up? Well… we'll die, along with the dragons we were created to protect."
"Hey, calm down. It'll be okay," Quincy said, "If anything the dragons will leave us for dead."
"She's not wrong," Jade said following her up.
Nox growled a little bit, baring her teeth. Never… I can't lose my partner again…
Pollux nodded solemnly. "Nox, you amaze me. You're very different from most dragons."
"She's hardly a dragon," Aurelius said, "She just looks like one."
"Nox really is something else," Quincy said nodding along. Jade growled a little at her rider, "Hey! I like you more."
"You better," Jade huffed.
"Lazy bum."
(HAH little do they know…)
Pollux sighed. "Gods, I miss Kratos… He could've left me to die, but he died in my place. Not all dragons are disloyal. That's for sure."
(Yep! Lol)
"That really is a definite. I'm sure even grumpy old Jade here wouldn't leave me for dead," Quincy said with a slight grin, "But Kratos was probably one of the better ones."
Oh, we just pretend to be better than you. Nox added, Well, actually, we are. We just fake arrogance. Or usually it's fake.
"Can you not destroy the mental image of dragons?" Quincy said with a sarcastic tone.
Pollux laughed. "The thing is, I'm sure Kratos would've said the same thing… He always teased me for being an inferior… as dragons will…"
Nox rumbled happily. See? He gets it
Quincy was chuckling along with them, "Dragons will be dragons after all. Arrogant beasts."
"But if we don't get moving, dragons could be gone…" Aurelius sighed, ruining the cheerful mood. He practically radiated sadness.
Pollux scanned him up and down, trying to figure out what to tell him. There wasn't much he could do. He only healed physical wounds.
Quincy looked to Aurelius with a serious face, "Aurelius, there is no way we can get all of the dragons with this small a force. This should be treated more as a scouting mission, or something smaller. If we can get one or two, great! If not, that's fine too. Let's not get ahead of ourselves."
"That's not what I mean. They're after us too. The people preserving the dragons. If we die, they die too," he replied, "As much as I would like to swoop in and rescue any captives, I realize we can't do that right now."
Pollux shook his head. "Yeah, no way. What are we even looking for, my guy?"
"Signs of motive, plans, who their leader might be. Any information with the possibility of bringing us to victory later."
"That's good," Quincy nodded after Aurelius spoke about the no rescuing, "And that also does sound like a decent plan. It sounds…. Doable."
"That's the idea," Aurelius said with a sigh, "I'm not setting out to get us all killed, believe it or not."
"I really was questioning there for a second," Quincy said, voice once again laced with heavy sarcasm.
"How about yourself? You've been in rough shape this whole time. You can't go into a mission like that. What if you have to run on foot? That's right, you couldn't!" Pollux sighed, becoming a little annoyed with the younger rider.
Aurelius shook his head. "I'm fine. It looks like it's healing up. It just hurts a little still. I only limp because I'm being careful not to overwork it."
"Mhm."
