Ella snorted. "You're telling me. I floated past my dead body."
Ella snorted. "You're telling me. I floated past my dead body."
"Okay, guys, we need to focus. Ella, do you know what's happening?" Jace asked. He still thought this was weird, talking to a ghost, but he pushed that thought away in order to get this mystery solved.
"No idea. I did see some other ghosts where I came from though."
"Well, those are probably the ghosts of our short-lived friends," Jace said flatly. "The four police that were called here have been murdered. We don't know how, or who did it. Can you help us?"
She thought about it. "Probably. I'm not sure if I'm able to go back and forth between that place and here willingly, though."
Eli nodded along with the conversation. Ana, however, threw her hands up in the air. "Can someone please explain what's going on?!" (she hasn't seen Ella yet)
Leo looked at Ana. "Ella's here," he said slowly.
Ana gasped, finally noticing the pale figure near them. Her voice lowered to a whisper. "Wait…really?" She nudged Eli. "Why didn't you tell me?" Ana signed to him. Eli responded with a shrug.
Ella bashfully waved at Ana.
Ana waved back, completely on board with the whole ghost thing.
Lia looked over at Ella. "Does it feel… weird? Like could you tell you were a ghost?"
"Definitely. First of all, you guys are all hazy and white. And there's this weird pull inside of me." She shrugged.
Ana looked around wearily. "Ella, did you see what happened to the police officers?" She asked, not knowing that the question had already been answered.
"I saw their ghosts," Ella repeated.
Ana shivered. "Ghosts…" She repeated. "This is creepy…we should leave. Then maybe we could hire a detective or something to do this for us."
Griffin couldn’t breathe. “Does-does it hurt?”
She looked over at Griffin. "Yeah. But it hurts differently than when I was, well, alive."
He swallowed. “I’m sorry I was too weak to save you.”
Her gaze hardened. "Stop. It was not your fault. It was no one's fault but mine. I made the noise, I was clumsy."
“And the ringmaster put us here in the first place.”
"But, Ella, you would've been alive if you hadn't come with me." Lia whispered.
Ella stomped her foot. It went straight into the floor. "It's no one's fault but mine and the ringmaster's. Capiche?"
Griffin nodded numbly.
Eli nodded. "Yup. It's just the ringmaster's fault. No one else's." He grinned. "Capiche."
Ella nodded brusquely. "Thank you."
“What next?”, he said quietly.
"We should find out who's been doing this. There's obviously someone in here, and we need to find them before it's too late." Jace said and crossed his arms.
Eli nodded in agreement, while Ana shook her head. "No." She stated. "We need to get out of here! This is too much for us to handle by ourselves."
Leo shook his head at her. "If anything, we have to stay to understand how we're here legally, to read the rest of those papers in that chest."
Griffin swallowed, but didn’t argue. “What about those two?” He indicated towards the ringmaster and Haile.
