Quick thing that came to me…

When I use the prompts stuff sometimes I will put "idk" or "none" in a category so I dont get prompts in that section cause I know I wont be able to answer any time soon… but is it possible to add a prompts/editing feature that allows you to get prompts in a category that has a certain keyword or phrase in it?

Hey, this is really just me being nitpicky, but can we flip around the arrow on the world filter option thingy so that it matches the others? It's backwards and it's kind of bothering me.

Also, in response to the person above me: Maybe have an option to turn certain fields on or off in the template editor.

@andrew health_and_safety flash_onAdmin

Is there any way we can have an (almost) unlimited stream of prompts? It's just pulling stuff from our pages, so it should always be able to come up with something, given that you have blank categories on pages

Yes! There should be an (almost) unlimited stream of prompts based on what isn't being filled out. Unfortunately that doesn't look to be the case for all pages, so I'm working on a fix to ensure no one (almost) ever runs out of prompts.

Could you make it so that prompts are focused? I know we can do focus by universe, but I'm talking more about specific categories, like an option to have only character prompts or location prompts pop up.

I think I can set something like this up. :)

Another little thing: If there isn't a way yet, could you make it so that on our pages, we can move things from one category to another? I added some things to custom categories that belong under another category back before we were able to add our own things to default categories. (For example, I have a thing called "fears" under a custom category, and I'd like to move it into the nature category, but I've tried and can't do it.)

Oof, I guess I missed this during coding. I've got more improvements planned for the template editors, so I'll make sure this finds its way into the to-do list there as well.

I'll have to think on the best way to get this done. I am indeed going to have ways to turn on/off prompts for particular fields soon so hopefully people wouldn't have to resort to sticking idk in some fields to stop being asked about it, but maybe I can get something working that helps out for fields that already have those kinds of placeholder answers.

Ha, that dang menu is the bane of my not-a-designer existence. I flipped the arrow around intentionally to show "these links are different from the ones below" (since they modify what you see on your current page, rather than taking you to a new page), but obviously there's still some more design work to be done here. I'll figure something else out. :)

@halfging3r Chihuahua Mom

Thanks so much! For the arrow, you could make it white, since it's on a blue background. That would make it different.

@FictionWriter09 group

Not sure where you would fit it, but how about a word count somewhere in the document feature. I always find it a bit of a motivator to see exactly the amount of words I've written. Also the ability to upload a profile picture without creating an account to a separate site

@divetoheart

A page for legends, myths, folk-tales, prophecies, etc. I don’t know if that’s maybe the best way to do it, because I know the race pages and such have fields like that but my dilemma calls for something a bit different.

Basically, I have a legend of 9 “Beasts of Legend”. It’s a worldwide thing, so it wouldn’t fit under one racial category, and there’s no religion behind it or anything. These creatures exist, according to legend.
What I’m trying to do though is have all 9 of these beasts on the same page, but obviously, these are 9 different creatures that I would like to describe. I could easily make fields for this sort of expansive description but a page where I could put it all would be extremely helpful.

Just in the long run, I think a Legends page could be used in a wide variety of ways.

I just realized that this would be really useful for some aspects of my world and it's history. I fully second this motion!

That sounds sooo good!

2 Suggestions! (I'm sure they have already been mentioned buuuuuuut)

  • a feature where we can create a 'Timeline' for our universes? Just to make it a bit easier to plan out plot lines and such!
  • a 'Map" feature so we can have a visual representation of our universes?

Thanks so much!

THAT WOULD BE SOOOO AWESOME ESPECIALLY THE TIMELINE PART!!! I NEED THE TIMELINE!!!!!!!!!

Also I just thought of something else pretty cool;
Y'know how we can link characters as family members? I think it would be really helpful if we could have a spot to show them in their family trees, basically a generated family tree for our characters. Maybe it could also be changed to show friendships and alliances?? (Also editable by the author in case of slip ups or complications…)

I was actually thinking about the timeline thing earlier lol. It would be really useful for me, the timeline/plot of my novel is really complicated and being able to organize it would be very helpful

Yes yes yes yes!! And if these could be interactive/interconnected somehow (like, showing the evolution of different countries and such over time, for instance, or the ability to mark the locations of various events), that would be awesome!

Also, 1 additional suggestion for the map feature: Some way to have different layers on a map? Like, have one layer that shows countries, and another layer that shows population distribution of various lifeforms, for instance. Or maybe have this as an option on the template for various pages?

This person has good ideas. I shall add on to their list

-A way to make and view family trees, so we don't have to go on a different website.

@NobleWolf

And this was probably said before, but something to differentiate between different kinds of family members (half-siblings, step-siblings, aunts/uncles, in-laws, etc.)

THANK YOU!!!

@NobleWolf

Here's an idea for another page: weather and other natural phenomena.

That's a good one! Also, if there is a way to make editing documents more mobile friendly, I'd appreciate it. I can't take a screenshot to show you, but if anyone's curious just try to edit a doc on your phone and you'll see what I mean

Hey, I have a page type request: An element/compound page? Basically somewhere we can put different types of elements and compounds. For instance, as a part of my magic system, I'm creating a new rock found on the moon (the rock itself isn't inherently magical, but it helps make magic happen), and I just realized there's not a related-enough page to put it in. I'll put it in an "items" page, for now, but it'd be nice to have a specific place to put it. It could also be useful if, for instance, someone wanted to create a special metal for something, or have a special liquid or gas in an atmosphere or something.

I have had a related problem! I have a new element to add to my storyline. Currently I have not been able to make a page for this element because there isn’t a page close enough to it. Using the “items” page is a good idea, however, thank you for that @halfging3r

This would be useful to me too. I have several various elements, that aren't plants, but have different effects, not necessarily magic, but still important.
Also thanks for the idea on putting them in the items page for now!

Ummmmmmm

Can we please have a limit on how long users can be? Because certain users stretch the Currently online box so high I have to flip my iPad upside down and pinch the screen in order to see the whole list (or I can’t @Name them.). Which is a little ridiculous. I know it’s coming from me, the person who used to have the longest user on the site, but people have stretched past that and made theirs much longer. So…. yeah.

Agreed. On my chromebook some usernames make me need to scroll across the screen to read. There's no reason why a username should be that long, if something's that important just put it in your profile.

True. It makes it harder to @ people, and honestly most of the really long names are just some inside joke or other (that's just how I feel, don't come for me)

@andrew health_and_safety flash_onAdmin

The page suggestions above are definitely good; I'll see what I can do about including them. (Also, I'd like to eventually let people create entirely new pages, and eventually-eventually let them share them with others).

As for usernames, I have an update planned that'll reduce the length allowed on usernames and restrict most nonstandard characters from appearing in them. This actually breaks mentions and PMs entirely in many places. With this update I also plan on setting up some kind of prettier URLs for our profiles (like finding me, @andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer), at notebook.ai/@andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)), but I haven't finalized all that code yet. :)

@divetoheart

While worldbuilding tonight I stumbled into a problem!

I would really appreciate the quick-add feature onboard the Link feature, if that's possible.
When I'm writing up, say, a building, and I want to link the Character page for the Owner, but I haven't yet created the character yet, it would be so so helpful to just quick-add his Character right there, without having to save my progress, exit out of the page, go quick-add the character and then return to what I was working on.

In addition to that, I think it's been suggested before, but custom categories for all of our pages would help a lot for organization. I don't want to have to sift through a long list of characters that are often quick-adds and minors, mixed in with my important characters. If I could group them all it would make my work so much more organized.

Thank you!

@halfging3r Chihuahua Mom

@divetoheart The quick-add feature seems very useful, I like that idea. For now, though, you could make an additional "Owners" text field and just write their names in there.

As for the categories thing, I'm pretty sure he's said he's working on adding a tag system so we can tag/filter different pages. Hopefully soon, my "characters" category is getting pretty cluttered.
