Alice shook her head vehemently. "No. It never went that way for me."

“Good,” Isobel replied, pushing away all the memories that arose. She finished bandaging up Alice’s stomach— but a long scar caught her eye. Was that— was that what she thought it was? But she knew both staring and questions would only upset Alice, so she quickly moved on to bandaging her arms.
Alice caught Isobel's eyes lingering at the bottoml of her stomach. She inhaled sharply, willing Isobel to move on… she did. She took Alice's arm and started treating it. Filled with relief, Alice's shoulders sagged and she relaxed into Isobel's grip.
Alice’s obvious relief didn’t escape Isobel’s notice, but she said nothing on the subject. “Right, I’m done bandaging, I’m going to help you put this cast on, okay? Tell me if it hurts.”

Alice nodded. She'd never worn a cast for her many broken bones, and never thought she would. It was a drastic change to be taken care of, and though she wasn't used to it, she liked it. She tucked her hair behind her ears and smiled down at Isobel. "Thank you."
Isobel shrugged, gingerly fitting the old cast onto Alice’s foot. “It’s not a spectacular feat. Just fixing you up a bit. Is this too tight?”
Alice wiggled her foot. "I think it's good." She attempted to stand up.
Isobel rushed to support her, though she knew she wouldn’t need it. “Be careful. Okay?”
Alice snorted. "I'll be careful." She stood up and easily straightened. She walked around the room with a slightly heavier limp than usual but still relatively easily. "All good." She gave Isobel a toothy grin.
Isobel leaned against the wall, sighing. “I can’t do anything about your rib, though..”
Alice rubbed at her sore stomach. "I think it should be fine." She unconsciously drew her finger across her scar, thinking. Finally, she hobbled back to the couch to put her shirt back on.
Isobel watched her, rubbing tiredly at her eyes and wondering how on earth she could have gotten into this situation. "If you say so."
Alice turned to Isobel. "I should probably leave." She met Isobel's gaze keeping her expression neutral.
Isobel sighed, looking her over. "I can't exactly stop you… are you going home, then?"
Alice hesitated. "Of sorts." She collected her things, mulling things over. "Anyway. Have a good week?"
Isobel didn't fail to notice her hesitation. "Won't I see you before then?"
Alice's face brightened, though she tried to hide it. "Up to you."
Isobel tried for a smile, though she was inexplicably exhausted. “For sure. Come by tomorrow…. through the lobby, preferably.”
Alice nodded slowly. Without saying a word, she left the apartment. She walked down the stairs, out the building and to the park. It was deserted.
Isobel heaved another long sigh, head spinning. She sat down heavily on the couch, trying to place her emotions.
What am I going to do? I’ve got a funeral in a week, all the way in Montreal, and a stalker? A very injured one?
Alice roamed the park, stopping at every other bench. It was a very nice night, warm and a little humid. She stopped at the far corner of the park, the corner farthest away from all entrances, the corner where almost nobody ever came.
And sat down on a bench. She lay her extra clothes out beneath her and lay down.
(aw Alice)
Isobel heard a soft whining coming from beneath the couch, and all of a sudden, horror struck her. Eddie She was immediately down on her knees, gently coaxing the frightened puppy out from beneath her sofa and into her arms. Alice must have scared him.. oh god how could I have forgotten??
Alice quietened down, staring at the grass. Water shone under the moonlight— it must have rained.
She listened to her breathing, calming her heartbeat, trying to relax. She felt herself nodding off.
(skip?)
(nods)
(So Wait, remind me how Alice is going to see Isobel’s stepmom again? Is she going to follow her up to the funeral?)
(yeah I think that was the plan)
(Sorry I’ve been really inconsistent on this)
(Wait would Isobel take a train or a plane up? She doesn’t know how to drive)
(idm you pick Alice'll follow)
