Elowan caught that smart remark and shot back. People talked about her behind her back far too often for her to be oblivious to the things people were saying. "My mother, apparently. God knows she'd pick out someone she thought would fit me."

Deleted user

"And she failed terribly at that." Zyra retorted, quietly following her. Everyone in her life has always hated her somehow in some god damn way.

Deleted user

Elowan snorted. "Yup. The only thing I like about you is your face, and even that's getting worse the more I look at it." That sentence was definitely untrue, only spat out to be cruel. In all honesty, the more Elowan looked at Zyra's gently sloping shoulders and soft eyes the more she wanted to do something rash. Like make out, which would definitely give everyone the impression that she supported this fucking marriage- which she totally didn't.

"Of course, it hates me and likes to get uglier and uglier by the second." Zyra replied sarcastically with a roll of her eyes. Of course she thinks I'm ugly, why wouldn't she?

Deleted user

"Good to know you'll remain consistently horrible. Maybe your face'll start matching your personality in a few hours." Elowan sneered as she tossed open the large halls that led to the main entrance of the ballroom. She pasted on a sloppy smile and stalked over to the tables where small plates of food were sitting.

(I'm so srry I haven't responded for so long! Forgive me pls)

"It already has, and it's going to get more and more horrible so you know," Zyra sneered back as she quietly followed Elowan since she couldn't leave her yet.

"Perfect. When you get ugly enough, I can banish you to the woods and get on with my fucking life." Elowan picked up the first plate she could find. A little platter of bonbons. They were tasty enough to swerve her attention away from the anger she had at the world for a few seconds.

"Sounds good to me. Which forest are you going to banish me to?" Zyra asked curiously, a small smile on her face. She picked up the first plate she could find and sat down next to Elowan or else people might become suspicious.

"Whichever one has the biggest bogs," Elowan answered, mouth full of chocolate. "People drown in those all the time, and they're so thick you can't find the bodies for weeks."

Deleted user

"The {Insert random forest name} has the biggest bogs." Zyra informed her, quietly eating her food. "How long do you think it would take you guys to find my body?"

Deleted user

"We wouldn't be looking," Elowan informed her matter o factly, only remembering to add venom to her tone halfway through. She wasn't going to banter, she was going to bitch, whine, yell, and be a general nuisance until she could find a way to get out of this that didn't end in another marriage and some harsh punishment.

Deleted user

"I think you should, or some poor citizen is going to find it and be scarred or horrified forever." Zyra suggested. She wasn't sure if Elowan actually hated her that much but she would try her to best to get Elowan to hate her enough to divorce her or something.

Deleted user

Running away was pointless because the guards would find her. And she couldn't get Zyra to divorce her because she was way too spineless. And she couldn't- oh. Had Zyra said something? Well, she should probably answer to pretend like she wasn't zoning out. "Uh… Fuck off."

"You weren't paying attention, were you?" Zyra asked with a slight laugh. It was obvious Elowan hadn't been paying attention.

Deleted user

(Sorry I was gone. Dinner/ homework)

"…No. I totally was. 110% paying attention," Elowan denied, turning to stuff more bonbons into her mouth before she added anything else.

Deleted user

(It's fine)

"Just so you know, Elowan, you're a terrible liar," Zyra replied, taking another bite of her food.

Deleted user

"Shash teh fu cup," Elowan grumbled through a mouthful of desserts. She was an excellent liar when it came to lying to herself about things. And even then, it was more of a fifty-fifty thing. Okay, so maybe she wasn't the best at lying. Didn't mean she couldn't try.

Deleted user

"Nah, I'd rather not." Zyra muttered. She had always been good at knowing when people were lying since she had to know when she was learning how to be a proper 'Queen.'

Deleted user

Elowan glared at her, swallowing the chocolates with a frown. Just as she was about to open her mouth, her mother waltzed over with all the grace a queen was supposed to have. She seemed to glide across the floor instead of walk. "How are you doing, Darlings? I trust you have become acquainted with one another by now."

Elowan frowned but didn't disagree, spitting out. "Zyra's… a nice gal mom. We get along fine." Her mother raised an assessing eyebrow but waited for Zyra's input.

Deleted user

"Elowan is very nice, we're getting along great, Your Highness," Zyra said quickly, smiling kindly at Elowan's mother. If anyone had been paying attention to their conversation, they would know Zyra was lying straight through her teeth.

Elowan's mother grinned coyly and bowed her head the perfect model of an Arusian noble. When Elowan was younger, she had been jealous of her mother. The way she moved and spoke and maneuvered through the world. Now though, Elowan could see through the layers of perfection she pushed out. Her mother was as much a barracuda as anyone else in this castle, she just put more effort into her smile.

"That's good to hear. Just between us, my husband was quite worried about the match. Elowan can be quite… obstinate in her opinions. She seems to have grown out of it." The 'finally' was unspoken.

Zyra nodded. "It's fine, Your Highness," She replied. She wanted the Queen to leave so she wouldn't have to put up this act of being a proper princess, which she absolutely hated.
