Nykidia grabbed Cade by the throat and slammed him against the wall. "Do you have any idea what you have done? You killed Phoebe! You sold us out to the queen! For what? Some money? You have to of realized by now that she's not only going to kill is but your family as well, right? Do you think that she's just going to leave you and your family alone? No! She will either kill you all or she will make you close to her. Have you seen what she did to Scarlet? She tortured her! What make you think that she will do any different to you?" She screamed in his face. She had tears running down her face. Phoebe and her had not been as close as her and Scarlet or her and Teresa but she had still been her friend. And she was gone. She would never see her again. She has probably now just on Alice's head wall. Nykidia started to laugh. "The queens going to come for you Cade. And I hope she is going to cause you as much pain as she will us." She said laughing.
Teresa looked around for night
For what must have been the first time in his life, Cade stayed silent. He didn't even try to pry Nykidia's hand from his neck. What had made him think that the queen would treat him different from her own daughter? Was it his pride? His stupidity? Maybe it was a mix of both. After a moment of silence, Cade decided to finally answer. His voice came out shakier than he intended it to. "…I know. I don't know what I was thinking. Sorry."
"Well sorry doesn't cut it." She said throwing him to the ground. She was about to start kicking him when Night floated into the room when she heard Nykidia yelling. She flew over to Nykidia and pulled her away from Cade. "Let me go!" Nykidia yelled at Night. "Let me kill him!" She yelled as she started laughing. "I want him to suffer like Phoebe did, like we have, like Scarlet did. I want him to feel every pain my mother did!" She yelled. She was laughing but there were tears streaming down her face.
Cade stood up quickly while Night held Nykidia back, stepping away from both of them. If he had been by himself, he might have even started to cry a bit. "Knowing what I did is enough suffering for me." Cade mumbled mostly to himself. He just sent all of them back to the place they had spent their whole lives struggling to get out of.
"Of course I went with her! I was seven! I wanted to be safe!" Virgil yelled to his brother, both of them didn't realize they were yelling. "Then why did you stay?!" Heath retorted with a scowl. "Scarlet! She could barely take care of herself when I got to the palace! As I walked through the doorway the first thing I saw was her head in a bucket of blood!"
The shouts from outside were audible to everyone in the room. Scarlet froze, torn between running outside and yelling at Cade. She did neither, betrayal turning her stomach as she looked back at the boy who had turned them in. "Lucky for you, you won't have to suffer much longer," she whispered to him. "You'll be dead within the next day. The Queen is coming."
"Nykidia calm down-" "I won't! Let me at him!" She screamed. "Nykidia, killing him won't solve anything." "Neither will not killing him!" "Killing him won't bring Phoebe ba-" "I don't care! I don't care. Idon'tcareIdon'tcareIdon'tcare!" She laugh screamed at Cade and Night. "Just let me kill him!" "That won't help anything." "It will avenge her! It will avenge them!"
Scarlet grabbed hold of Nykidia's arm and pulled her back, finally snapping. "STOP. Just stop…." A single tear ran down her face, which she angrily wiped away. Why am I crying?? I can't be this weak.. "You're not helping. We all lost Phoebe, screaming your head off at Cade isn't helping anything!!"
Cade sighed, backing away from Nykidia. "You know what, this was a stupid idea. Apologizing never solves anything." He grumbled as he made his way towards the front door. "I'll just leave before I mess something else up."
Nykidia looked over at Scarlet and laughed. She laughed and laughed. Tears were streaming down her face but she couldn't stop laughing. She dropped to the ground, laughing and crying. "This is so funny!"
Teresa threw a knife which embedded itself in the doorway where Cade was about to move to "don't move." She said quietly. "Running away after apologizing makes you a coward. Even if we dont forgive you, we cant trust you to leave and not tell the queen so you are not allowed to leave." She said.
(Are they packing up to leave or…?)
(I think?)
(Shadow Night, what is happening with Nykidia right now…?)
Scarlet agreed with Teresa, but she stayed silent on the matter, glancing anxiously outside for Virgil.
Cade turned back around to face the rest of the group, taking Teresa's knife from the door frame. "If I stay, then you'll have to accept my apology. I'm not going to sit here and mope around with you guys."
(Nykidia is going a little mad. She is the daughter of the mad hatter after all. She is also comparing the current situation to when she lost her mom.)
Nykidia was laughing. "It's almost the exact thing. Someone sells us out, we try to run but one of us gets caught and killed. It's Déjà vu. It's the same thing." She said. "Why? Is it me? I'm the only one who was there for both. Did this happen because of me? I killed Phoebe. I killed her. I'm sorry. I'm sorry." She said over and over. Her laughing had stopped and so did the crying. And for the second time in her life she had felt empty.
(Kk makes sense)
Scarlet didn’t know what to do. She’d never been the best at comforting, she’d never been the best with other people, she was just worried about Virgil and scared about the Queen and all she wanted was to run away with her best friend by her side. “You didn’t kill her,” she tried to tell Nykidia gently, eyes flicking up to Cade. “Forgive is if we’re a bit reluctant,” she told him sarcastically. “And I can’t speak for the group. I….. fine. I will give you a second chance. Forgive… sort of, but definitely never forget. I don’t know about the others, though.”
"If that's what I can get, then it's good enough for me." Cade responded, nodding firmly.
Went way better than I thought it would… Chelsea swung her legs over the edge of the bookshelf.
"If that's what I can get, then it's good enough for me." Cade responded, nodding firmly.
"I will never forgive nor forget why you did to my friend. Until I do end up forgiving you, you will be watched." She stated, picking up and twirling another knife.
"That's fair." Cade replied, slowly returning to his normal behavior.
Jasper had been silent the entire time, seemingly contemplating. When he found out what this boy - Cade, he believed - had done, he wanted to scream and shout. Was this Cade the reason Phoebe was dead? But Jasper’s mother had always said a rational head was one of his strong suits, and Phoebe hadn’t been caught because of a betrayal. The guards always walked down that path. They should’ve known better. It’s more my fault than his, Jasper thought to himself. He blinked, looked up, and didn’t say anything.
Nykidia was breathing really heavily and was mumbling something like 'Thank you' under her breath. Night loosened her grip on her and hugged her. "It OK. It's not your fault. Shhhhh." Night said while hugging her. Nykidia was calming down.
"Still! You left our homeland to burn, you left mother and Marrin and Cam. To burn." Heath exclaimed angrily, he almost regreted using Marrin and Cams name as soon as he saw the look of hurt shoot across his brothers face. Not the time to feel sorry for a murderer. Heath thought bitterly as his stare was laced with hostility.
Scarlet couldn’t stand it anymore. She pushed back Cade and was put the door in a flash, grabbing hold of the new guys shoulder and wrenching him away from Virgil.
"Hey! Let me talk to my brother! I need to know why he did it!" Heath yelled, pulling himself away from the girls grasp and narrowed his eyes at his defeated looking brother.
“I don’t care,” she snapped at the guy, talking hold of Virgil’s arm and gently pulling him towards the door. “You can come in when you learn to treat people like human beings, and when it dawns at you that yelling your head off in the middle of a forest not that far from the palace isn’t the greatest idea,” she called over her shoulder.
"He's not human, neither am I. And I wouldn't be yelling if he hadn't killed off our family's village," Heath said, quieting his voice down. Virgil knew that Scarlet would look to him, asking if it was true… "I mean… I'm a demon…"
“Right, I don’t give a [shoot]. He’s the only friend I have left, so [frick] off,” she told the guy, pulling Virgil inside. “You good?”
(Aw friendship at it’s finest.)
(Just like Chelsea and Willow’s friendship :))
Which turned into a fluff-fest near the end uwu that was an adorable beginning to a possible ship)
