Lilah nodded and took a deep breath before she pulled away slightly to open the door.
“Mom. Dad. What are you doing here?” she asked, her face a mask of calm.
“Lilah…” the queen breathed, stepping forward as she reached for her daughter. “Honey, we’ve missed you. Why have you been hiding here?”
Cameron put on an impassive expression as he avoided looking at the king and queen. Especially the king. He squeezed Lilah’s hand tightly in his.
(I have a proposition for you.)
“You didn’t want me to be with Cameron. I didn’t agree with you. You threatened to take the throne from me, so I gave it up,” Lilah said, feigning calm.
(Proposition?)
Cameron really wished she hadn’t brought him up. But he kept his face calm and slack.
(Well, more of a request… I’m wondering if you’d want to join a private RP. Topaz is in it, too.)
“So you just left? We couldn’t have worked this out?” the king asked, his face hard.
“You wouldn’t listen to me! And now there’s nothing you can do,” Lilah declared. “Because were married.”
(Oo yea! Which one? Or is it a new idea?)
Cameron had to resist from rolling his eyes at the king. There was no way he was going to let Lilah marry Cameron, even if she prayed to God and he himself came down and blessed it.
(New idea. I sent her the info, should I send it to you?)
The king blinked and raised an eyebrow at them. “Oh? Well, that’s… Hm…”
“Exactly. So you can leave us alone, now. There’s nothing you could do to stop me from doing what I want,” Lilah said, her eyes determined.
(Sure thing!)
Cameron gave a guarded, though slightly offended look to the king. He had forgotten about how much discrimination he got just because of a surname. Perhaps he should change it?
The king’s jaw clenched, and his gaze flashed between the two Metzlers. There really was nothing he could do, except for demand that his daughter come home. And even then, she didn’t have to listen since she was an adult.
(I have no idea what to do…)
(Lmao Lilah stumped you.)
Cameron leaned his weight on another foot, leaning closer to Lilah and squeezing her hand again. He smirked ever so slightly at his wife’s smarts. She knew how to shoot someone down, for sure.
(She can be too independent sometimes… She's even independent of me!)
"Honey… We just want to see you more," the queen said softly.
"No, mom. You just want to see me more. My father wants to get me away from my husband," Lilah said, her she'd gaze unwavering as she glared at the king.
She’s got this all figured out, Cameron mused to himself, fighting a grin. So fierce!
“I can see that I am not wanted here… Come on, darling. Let’s go home,” the king said, his expression never changing from his guarded look.
Cameron didn’t say anything. He didn’t shift his expression, nor did he try and stop the royal couple.
Lilah just watched as her parents walked away. Once they were out of sight, she turned and walked toward the bedroom, sitting on the bed with a torn expression on her face.
Cameron watched them and shut the door as Lilah walked away. He followed her, still holding her hand.
“Lilah?” He asked softly.
“I never realized how much I missed them until now,” Lilah whispered, looking up at Cameron.
Cameron sat next to her, taking her other hand. He smiled sadly. “I’m sorry. It must feel awful to be away from them.”
Lilah shook her head and chewed on her lip. “That’s just it, though. I don’t usually think about them. I mean, I’ve got you and the dogs to keep me busy. There isn’t much time for me to think about them.”
Cameron squeezed her hands. He wasn’t sure what to say. He thought of his “parents” constantly, but never ever missed them. He felt proud that he had left them behind, even.
“Maybe that’s why I feel like I miss them so much. Because I saw them and now I’m thinking about them again,” Lilah mused softly, leaning into Cameron. “Well… I miss my mom, anyway. My dad… not so much…”
Cameron wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his chest. He gave a soft noise to tell her he was listening.
“I just… I don’t know what to think anymore,” Lilah whispered, squeezing her eyes shut tight. She pulled her legs up to her chest and curled closer to Cameron, burying her face in his shoulder.
Cameron rubbed her neck gently and glanced over her head at the wall. What in the world was he supposed to say?
“Can we just cuddle? I’m exhausted from all this stress,” Lilah sighed, opening her eyes to look up at him.
Cameron looked down at her and nodded. “Of course we can.” He squeezed her and laid down.
Lilah hummed and nuzzled him gently. “I’m so glad we’re finally home…”
(So… If — coughwhencough — Lilah gets pregnant, do you want me to tell you or surprise you?)
(Well we both already know rolls eyes
Should we just skip to when she figures out?)
(Hey, I never said she was!
Do you want to, though?)
