“N,” Jasper signed, looking down and away. He tried to push past her. “Hey.”

"Jasper! It's me!" Nykdia said as she grabbed on to him, trying to get his attention. 'He's probably distraught over Phoebe.' she thought.

Jasper shook her off and whirled around, eyes bright. It was hard to tell if he was heartbroken or angry. “What do you want?”

"Jasper! It's me. Nykidia. Are you OK?" She asked him. 'Of course he's not OK you idiot.' She thought. 'He just lost his sister.'

“I’m mute, not blind, N,” he signed, movements quick and erratic. His face morphed into an angry snarl. “Go away. We both need to get out of here.”

"I know. Night was going to try to portal us to somewhere safer but we need to get out of town." She told Jasper. "And don't tell me to go away. I need to watch over you now."

“I’m 17, I don’t need someone to watch over me.” The tears started to fall but he didn’t seem to notice. “I was doing fine for the few days Phoebe-” his words paused for a moment there before continuing. “-was off gallivanting with you, no doubt.”

"Yeah. Because trying to kill and then end up saving the daughter of the queen of hearts was gallivanting." She said gesturing to Scarlet. "And I know your 17 but still. She would want you with someone and not off by your own," She said dragging.
(Am I the only one that finds it funny that almost everyone in this group is older than Nykidia but she is taking the responsibility?)

“Don’t you try and tell me what Phoebe would want!” Jasper’s gaze shifted to Scarlet and he sneered. “Queen’s daughter, hmm? Enjoying your life on the run? Do you miss the parties and fancy gowns? Miss the safety of the palace?” Jasper felt like there was something wrong with that statement - that maybe the palace hadn’t been so safe. But he didn’t care.

"Calm down. Right now we need to focus on getting out of here." She said as she hurried to the outside of town. "And I'm not sure if Scarlet can understand sign language."

Cade continued walking through the forest with Chelsea, hoping that she knew where she was going. The guilt was eating away at him, a feeling he had never known until now. Good Lord, I'm an idiot. Let's just hope they can forgive me and move on before the Queen finds them.

Scarlet flinched as each of the boy’s words hit home. For a second, she thought he was going to hit her, or cut her, or beat her in any way— but he didn’t. She set her jaw and looked him straight in the eye, unwavering. “I can sort of use it.”
(Would jasper know scarlet because of phoebe?)

Virgil waved hello to the new boy, he could still sense the demonic presence… But it was with the boy, not on him though. It seemed as if the boy had been near someone demonic. Virgil furrowed his eyebrows, should he ask if this boy new Heath?

Jasper rolled his eyes and turned to Nykidia. “I’m not going to go slow for her. You can translate.” He seemed resigned to staying with the group now. “What?” He signed sharply at Virgil.

"Do you know someone named Heath? He's short and annoying and technically a demon?" Virgil signed in gay, he was worried about his little brother… No matter how annoying he was.

“Yeah, He was following me around. Make him go away.”

A flicker of happiness went through his eyes. "Where did he go?" Virgil said, rushing through the signing.

“Somewhere behind us, I’m sure,” Jasper snarked, bending down to shove some dirt in his hair. The crowd around them was finally calming down.

Virgil nodded and raced off. He came back a few minutes later, pulling Heath behind him by the ear and scolding him. "Where were you, idiot? How did you survive the village being destroyed?"

“What if I just randomly disappeared and left you stranded here alone?” Chelsea mused. It was fun to play around with people.

"You wouldn't." Cade replied, glaring at her to get the point across. "And if you did, I'd kill you." He was smart enough to know that the forest wasn't a safe place to be at night.

“First of all, I totally would.” Chelsea grinned, kicking a rock, “Second of all, try me.”

“Well, you said he was a demon,” Jasper rolled his eyes and turned away.

Heath waved awkwardly. "Hello again!" He signed, it seemed that the grip Virgil had on him wasn't affecting him.

"I wouldn't dare." Cade chuckled, pausing a second before continuing. "How much longer until we find them? The longer we wait the more anxious I get."
