"Right away, sir." she said, shuffling off. Rosanna returned a few minutes later with plenty of parchment and ink, enough for quite a lot of writing to be done.

"Thank you." Ru picked up the supplies and hurried into his room. His desk was fairly clean, so he didn't have much set up to do. Soon he was happily scribbling away, working to set up outlines or certain policies or implementation methods. He could spend hours doing this and he planned to. It wasn't like there was anything else for him to do.

Ariana went to find some servants. "There's a passageway, in the library. Board that up. And then… then…. board up the library too." she ordered. The servants complied instantly, having heard about her short, deadly temper. They didn't want to face it at all. Ariana was finally satisfied when it had been boarded up to the point that it would take months to unboard, and then she left.

Ru quickly realized he needed to brush up on his legal language. Sure, he could plot and plan all he wanted, but he could never begin serious drafting if he didn't have the right vocabulary. He called a servant to fetch him some books from the library, only to hear that the library had been boarded closed. Apparently, it had been Ariana's doing. How the hell was he supposed to catch up on all the work he'd lost with no access to anything!?

After taking a trip over to asses how heavily blocked it was, he sat down and began wondering how he could break back in. Breaking the windows? Calling a magic specialist to portal him in? Screaming until he collapsed and didn't have to worry about it anymore?

Aria breathed shakily as she made her way down the hall, slowly. That place reminded her of…. too many horrible things. It smelled, tasted, felt of destruction and misery. She lay down on her and Ru's shares bed, and planned to sleep for a solid year. She was too tired to handle this, anyway.

The scream had sliced through the silence like a knife through flesh. As the vibrations echoed from crag to crag, something deep within stirred, its sleep disturbed. Yet it couldn't sleep now. A scream hadn't been heard here for centuries, and the cries of the past had never sounded like that. That had been a bellow, a roar as if the very fabric of reality had been ripped apart, not the shriek of a terrified child. And the cave wasn't empty any more. Dust that had lain for decades had been displaced by the arrival of the two strange beings. Something deep within awoke and felt the hunger gnawing.

(Trigger Warning)
Ariana was strapped to a stone table. Trapped. She felt the penetration of a blade on her chest, making it's way down to her stomach, and yet she couldn't scream. Hot blood poured out of her body, she was dying, slowly, painfully, fire filled her veins. She woke up not much later than she had dozed off, in a cold sweat. She was scared now, more scared than ever. But why? This wasn't unlike her normal nightmares, they were typically worse. So why was she so completely, utterly, consumingly terrified?

Ru stared at the library door in contempt for a few minutes before he stood up again. Maybe he should just give up. Just throw away all the work he was trying to salvage and ignore all his personal projects. Suddenly he felt very… tired. It wasn't like they were going to change much, no matter how badly he wanted them to. No matter what he did, nothing was going to change. It was time to accept that and move on.

He meandered through the halls, stopping every now and then when something caught his eye. A portrait his mother had painted. A few old toys he used to play with when he was younger. A little golden sculpture his father had brought from the nearby town. Even though this was a vacation home, it was full of so many little memories from his childhood. So many relics from times before Ariana had even entered his life.

By the time he reached his room, he was practically drowning in nostalgia.

Ariana looked down. She saw blood. A scream escaped her mouth, but when she looked back again, it had gone. It wasn't real, and she had lost the few shreds of dignity she retained. Damn. Hopefully Ru wasn't around to hear that.

Ru jolted before he realized what he scream was and who was likely screaming. He pushed open the door and walked inside quickly, not making much of a scene in case he startled her even further. Why had she screamed? Did something happen? "Are you okay!? What's wrong!?"

Deleted user

"Not to be rude, but you just screamed. Loudly. Are you okay? Should I leave?" Ru pressed a hand over his heart, willing it to stop beating so fast. Everything was fine. Ariana probably just… had a nightmare or something. It was bad, but not something she'd let Ru help her with.

Deleted user

"I'm…. I don't…. just…." she trailed off, at loss for words. She finally found the right one after some silence. "Stay."

Deleted user

Or not. It seemed like Ariana aways did the exact opposite thing he expected her to. Ru stepped closer to the bed, unsure of whether she'd want him to get closer or stay a reasonable distance away. "Of course. Is there anything else you want me to do?"

Deleted user

"You can take any initiative as you see fit, depending on what it is you want to do." she said calmly, yet distantly.

Deleted user

"Okay." Ru climbed onto the bed, sitting next to Ariana but not making any move to touch her. He knew Ariana probably had a nightmare, so he tried to think about what he liked to do after he had nightmares. "Do you want me to run you a bath?"

Deleted user

"No." she said, shifting over and placing her head on his chest. The rise and fall of Ru's breath was comforting.

Deleted user

Ru nodded, brushing some of Ariana's hair off his neck and hesitantly wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "Do you want me to keep talking or just shut up?"

Deleted user

"Mm, you can do whatever. I like your voice either way." she said softly.

Deleted user

"Okay. What should I talk about?" Ru kind of wanted to bring up the library but now obviously wasn't the time. Maybe he could tell her some stories? The myths of his culture?

Deleted user

"Tell me a story." she murmured, pressing cold feet against Cerulean's legs, teeth chattering slightly.

Ru flinched away from Ariana's freezing feet before he gritted his teeth and pulled Ariana into his side. He wanted to tell a story she would like, but he didn't know much about her. She knew about fighting. She was covered in tattoos. Her scary tattoo demon was a big spooky bird. He could work with that. A myth had already worked its way into his head.

"Once upon a time, there was a girl with hair as white as snow. Her name was Khasakori and she was beautiful, though the men of the town knew better than to ask for her hand in marriage. She had pledged herself to the goddess Epha- the guardian of the wilds- and as such, no man was allowed to touch her upon fear of death.

She loved taking walks up and down the beach, loved the way the waves looked in the fiery reds and oranges of the sunset. These walks happened every evening, and eventually, she attracted the attention of Cerac'alu- god of the sea. Each and every night, he would make himself invisible and watch her walk up and down the beach, admiring her looks.

After months upon months of watching Khasakori, he revealed himself to her and asked her to go with him to his underwater palace. She refused, and he grew angry. He raised a great tsunami and threatened to destroy her town and she did not budge. He threatened to kill her family and she did not budge. No matter how much he threatened, she refused to go with him.

Hours went by, and once he grew tired of threats he grabbed her arm and attempted to force her to go with him. She kicked and screamed and tried to break away, but the god was too strong. As her face sank into the water, she gave one final scream- a prayer to Epha to help her.

Epha heard her, but she could not face Cerac'alu alone. Instead, she used her magic to transform Khasakori into a crow, with feathers as white as her gorgeous hair. Cerac'alu couldn't hold on to her, and she flew off into the night as he sank beneath the waves. Just before she disappeared from sight, the sea god singed her feathers, transforming them from milky white to singed black.

And that is the story of the first crow."

Deleted user

"That wasn't…. I mean… beautiful… it was… reminded me of home." Ariana yawned falling asleep slowly.

Ru smiled softly at her, running his fingers through her hair slowly. It had been a long time since hed been able to hug someone and talk to them and make them happy. He hadn't been this close to another person since… Adrien. His eyes warmed and he sighed. Of course he had to pick at the worst memories. "Thank you. I'm glad you liked it."

Deleted user

"Yes. I know lots of stories. Is there anything else you want to hear about?" Ru knew the myths about everything. About why the night and day existed. About the creation of tortoises and the reason the sky is blue. He knew almost every story being told, and he could tell each and every one he knew.

Deleted user

The world. That was one of the earliest stories hed ever learned, but it still stuck out clearly in Ru's mind. "First, there was no world, only empty space and a single lonely being named Mata. Mata was the only thing that existed in the younger days of the universe, and when it was young, it knew nothing. You see, emotions feelings, sensations, none of those had been invented yet. There was only empty space and it's small body.

"But Mata was only a baby in the beginning, and as it grew it began to fill the space. As the space became more and more cramped, Mata felt the first feeling: discomfort. From discomfort, all other emotions followed. Sadness, pain, anger came first as it was squeezed into a space that could no longer contain it. And then, on the first day, Mata broke free.

"Without the strange emptiness constraining it, Mata felt joy and happiness and relief for the first time. Emotions were brought into the world as Mata began to feel. To sense. But as Mata learned and felt and grew, it began to realize how horribly alone it was. It cried, and from its tears, the first matter was created. Water filled the space, and from it, Mata made a friend. The spoiled water god, Celu.

"Mata loved Celu, but Celu did not love Mala. Celu could not comprehend Mata, in all its ever-extending brilliance, and Mata riped at its hair and tore at its skin in agony. Heartbreak was created as Mata formed the chunks of skin into someone Celu could love. The goddess of land, Reena. When they came together, all of the existing universes quavered with joy.

"Mata did not, though it knew that Celu and Reena were perfect together. Their joy only served to make Mata angry, but it never used that anger against its beloved Celu. Instead, it began to create. Aeri, a whispy being made of daydreams, became air surrounding the two, keeping them safe. The sparks of anger in Mata's heart became stars, held suspended in an unlit sky.

"Ideas bloomed in the shapes of trees, flowers, and animals, and the world was a harmony. The world was a harmony and Mata was in great pain. It knew it could never be with Celu. It knew Reema was the best person for Celu. And still, it wanted. Still, it though of poisonous things to do to the both of them until finally it gave in and created what would eventually be the mortals.

"It made them in the shape of Celu and Reema, but it also stole the part of them that made them good. It took the harshest parts of its mind into them and set them into the world. And when Reema and Celu still loved them, it stole from these creatures what kept them young and strong. It turned them mortal.

"And Celu and Reema wept as the things they loved began to sicken and weaken. So great were their tears, that the entire earth began to flood. Mata realized what it had done, but it also knew it was too late. They could not take away the creatures or Celu would hurt even more. They could not return the creature immortality, for the process could not be done.

"So Mata, blinded by grief and suffering, gouged out its own eyes to give the world a sun- a glorious star to shine light and wonder down onto all it touched- and erased itself from the world. With this final act, an unknown emotion was created. Hope. And while everything was not perfect, everything had been made. And thus the world was finished."

Deleted user

"Hmm. That sounds a lot like our creation tales. At home." she yawned, and then, with a contented sigh, she drifted off into sleep, still clinging to Ru, arms and legs having been snuggled around him. Ariana, Ru might note, had the clinging abilities of a giant squid.

Deleted user

Ru tucked the covers around them with a small smile. He messed around with Ariana's hair for a while longer before attempting to break out of his wife's arms. An attempt that was completely unsuccessful. That girl had a grip that could crush iron, even when she was sleeping. Eventually, he attempted to drift off to sleep. He reached a state of half-consciousness where he was daydreaming loopily and stayed there until he was disturbed.

"Ru?" Ariana asked, pulling away slowly. She felt something pulling her towards the one place she hoped never to visit again. "Are you awake?"

Deleted user

"Mmm?" Ru blinked a few times, half sitting as he was pulled from his lazy imaginings. Ariana seemed to have unwrapped herself from him and he had to fight to keep himself from pulling her back in. "What's up? Something happen?"
