Elide his her frown as she followed Phoebe. She placed a hand on her shoulder gently, “You okay?”
"Hm? Yeah, I'm fine." Phoebe faked a convincing smile, sitting back down on the bed. "So, what do you want to do"
Slide frowned a little, “You aren’t ‘fine’ Phoebe. What’s wrong?” She asked, again, hoping she wasn’t being too pushy as she sat down on the bed and bit her lip.
"I'm fine, I promise," she lied, her face a mask of relaxation and slight confusion. "Why wouldn't I be?"
Elide still felt something was up but nodded, “O-Okay. Whatever you say. So, what now?”
(do you want to skip to a bit later or stay?)
(I don’t mind)
(could we skip then? maybe to dinnertime?)
(Sure, that sounds good)
"Girls, dinner's ready!"
Phoebe turned her head towards the door, removing an earbud and doing the same for Elide. "Sorry if my poor taste in music was annoying."
Elide shook her head with a giggle, “It’s fine. It wasn’t that bad.”
Phoebe sighed playfully. "Whatever you say. Come on, dinner's ready."
They made their way to the small kitchen, where a rather frazzled looking Maria was ladling soup into two bowls. It smelt delicious, and Phoebe would've been warmed by the gesture if she hadn't been a mixture of concerned and on edge.
"Sorry I can't eat with you, girls, I've still got a lot of work to do." Phoebe smiled and shook it off. "That's alright, mum, get some rest after." Maria nodded, her gaze already drifting elsewhere, and disappeared down the stairs.
“What does you mum do for her work?” Elide asked, walking over to the bowls of soup. She hasn’t realised how hungry she was.
Phoebe pulled up a chair for Elide, sitting down as well. "She writes. Books and stuff." At least, she used to. "Yours?"
Elide shrugged, not quite knowing how to answer, “N-Nothing interesting.” She said, taking a mouthful of soup.
Phoebe decided not to pry. "Were your parents born in England too?" she asked, changing the subject.
Elide nodded, “My dad was born in Wales and mum was born in England,” She explained, “What about your parents?”
"Both from Greece. Hey, Josh is Welsh too!" Phoebe took a careful spoonful of her soup.
Elide smiled, “Really? That’s so cool!” She let out a small content sigh and took another spoonful of food.
"Mm." Phoebe swallowed another spoonful of soup. "Have you ever been to Wales? Does your dad have family there?"
Elide shook her head, “Nah, they moved to Denmark a while back.”
“Have you ever been there? To Denmark?” Phoebe’s curiosity was significantly peaked.
Elide nodded, “Only once when I was little. I can’t remember it much but Luke told me we went ice skating on a massive fountain.”
"Who's Luke? And that sounds awesome." Phoebe shifted slightly in her seat. "I've always wanted to go to Europe in general."
"Luke was- i-is, is my brother," Elide ran a hand through her hair, "Maybe after school is finished you could go to Europe."
Phoebe caught the stammer, and her heart squeezed. Guessing that Elide wanted to be discreet, she pretended that nothing was amiss. “That’d be nice.”
"How many places in America have you been to?" Elide asked, taking a spoonful of soup.
Phoebe began counting off her fingers. "Here, obviously. New York City, Connecticut, Orlando, Buffalo, Boston, Atlanta. To be honest, I don't like America a whole lot. We don't travel much either."
"Why don't you like America?" Elide finished her soup and looked over at Phoebe with a slightly confused expression.
