Aniña swallowed her face hardened, “Gyrth… he’ll leave us alone. Keep to himself and only himself. My father… I want you to stay away from him. He won’t hesitate to hurt you and I don’t want that.”

Deleted user

"Okay. I'll stay away from him." Sequoia cuddled into her wife's side, pulling her in for a chaste kiss on the lips. It was clear that Aniña had no love for her father, so Sequoia changed the subject. "What are the festivals like? We only have 2 per year, and they're both pretty serious."

@ElderGod-Carrots

Aniña cracked a smile, “We have many festivals. Streets are decorated according to the event. Everyone has food, entire streets share meals and it’s a lot of fun.”

Deleted user

"Oh, that sounds wonderful! We just have the birth and death ceremonies, and they're both pains in the ass. I have to speak so many blessings." One time she had spoken for so long that she couldn't force her vocal cords to work for the next week. It was incredibly annoying. Aniña's festivals seemed like so much more fun.

@ElderGod-Carrots

Aniña laughed, “Luckily you won’t have Tom speak any speeches at these festivals. There’s pretty much none at all except maybe priests who bless everyone’s at midnight.” The festivals were loads of fun and Aniña always loved them.

"That sounds amazing! You really have these all the time?" That sounded like everything Sequoia had ever wanted while she was locked up in the castle. Freedom and fun and being able to shed the skin of a princess and dance alongside everyone else.

Deleted user

"I bet." Giant parties were always worth the cost it took to set up if everyone loved them to death. And Sequoia absolutely adored parties, even when they were those lame, kiss-and-tell gossip sessions that pretended to be parties. Something wild and free would be amazing. "Will you dance with me? At these parties?"

@ElderGod-Carrots

“Of course I will.” Aniña smiled and pressed a kiss to Sequoia’s lips. Dancing with her would be amazing. Under the stars, the music playing around them with no fear in the world. It would be magnificent.

Sequoia smiled, kissing back readily. She could imagine them kissing at a party, with music playing loud and harsh in the background and strings of lanterns bouncing light of their skin. It was a beautiful scene, one she hoped they could live out. "We'll be the hottest couple at the party."

@ElderGod-Carrots

"Oh I'm sure we will be. There's a festival to celebrate the seasonal gods a few days after we arrive back in my kingdom, we could go to that if you'd like." Aniña smiled onto Sequoia's lips, already excited about the festival and everything that would happen.

Deleted user

"Oh, I'd love to. What do you wear to a seasonal festival?" Sequoia had all kinds of clothes, but she didn't really know how to dress for any occasion. She'd always had a servant come in and pick out what was best suited to the event. But that was the past and she wanted to try and be more… free. Make more of her own decisions.

@ElderGod-Carrots

“Anything you want as long as it corresponds to one of them seasons. Light green for spring, yellow for summer, red for autumn and light blue for winter.” Aniña always went as winter, her favourite seasons and colour in one.

Sequoia looked down at her tawny skin and decided she'd probably look best in yellow. Or red. People had told her she looked rather nice draped in a red dress, though she preferred purple gowns. "What do you dress up as? I can't decide what to be." She decided to go as the opposite of what her wife went as. It was convenient and vaguely couple-y

@ElderGod-Carrots

“Winter. Always have and always will. Only colour I look good in and it’s my favourite.” Aniña smiled and let out a content sigh. She now couldn’t wait to get home just for the festival, “Oh, and it’s always Starfall that night too.”

Deleted user

"I'll go as summer then. Do I get to wear a flower crown? I look great in flower crowns. And what's Starfall?" Sequoia had more than a few flower crowns laying around, though she wasn't able to wear them most of the time. Her parents said they were too childish and since they had the say in the castle they had the final word on what she did.

@ElderGod-Carrots

Aniña chuckled, “Yes, you can wear a flower crown. Starfall is where the stars fall from the sky over the city and over the mountains at midnight, right after the blessings.” She let out a content sigh. It was her favourite part of the festival, when the stars fell overhead. It was beautiful and magical and wonderful and the best experience ever.

Stars falling? That sounded an awful lot like Saint Brilix' repentance, where his glowing tears fell down into the ocean where his human body lay. It was a beautiful event and it was wonderful to know that Aniña's people celebrated it too. "We call that Saint Brilix' repentance. His tears fall into the sea instead of into mountains."

@ElderGod-Carrots

“Looks like our people have something in common after all. I think it’s my favourite time of year. No rules, just parties and food and a beautiful event.” It was the best time for Aniña. She wa always free of her duties and allowed to do whatever she wanted for a while evening. She could go out into the streets and dance like no one was watching and watch the stars fall. She was glad she could celebrate it with Sequoia.

That sounded wonderful. Good food, good fun, and a good friend. It was everything Sequoia wanted out of a festival. "Yeah. But when we celebrate it at home, it's a time of quiet repentance. Reflection about what makes us human. No less beautiful then yours probably is though."

@ElderGod-Carrots

Aniña nodded. It was strange how something they both celebrated was still so different, “True. But it doesn’t matter, You get to experience some real fun when we get back.”

Deleted user

"I can't wait. Believe me when I say I'm dangerously short on real fun." Her life had been fun of countless events that were supposed to be fun. Tea parties and croquet sessions and endless chaperoned walks with people who may decide to court her. Things that actually excited her were few and far between.

@ElderGod-Carrots

“Well then, you’re going to go to all the best festivals in my kingdom to have some fun and that is that.” Aniña grinned at her. There were so many festivals in her kingdom it was unreal but she didn’t care. If Sequoia was short on real fun then she was going to giver her that.

Deleted user

Sequoia laughed, wondering exactly how many festivals there were going to be. Hopefully, they'd get some privacy amidst all the partying that was sure to break out during these festivals. "I hope so, Habibi. I think that'll be a lot of fun."

@ElderGod-Carrots

“It will, trust me on that.” Aniña leaned in and placed a kiss to her wife’s lips, smiling into it. She couldn’t help the small tingling feeling of happiness that spread through her body and the butterflies in her stomach.

Sequoia kissed back, curling into her side with a smile when they were finished. Now that she was coming down from the fear of changing bloody bandages or exploring creepy passages, she felt pretty sleepy. She yawned quietly and pulled the covers over them. "Can you tell me a-" she was interrupted by another yawn, "A story?"

@ElderGod-Carrots

Aniña laughed lightly and climbed out of bed to find a book, "Yes, I can. Any preferences for genres?" She walked over to a small book shelf in the corner and ran her hands over the books before looking over at Sequoia with a smile.

Sequoia rolled over into the warm spot Aniña had left behind, stealing most of the blankets in the process. "Whatever you want. But keep it short and not too serious. I'm going to fall asleep soon."

@ElderGod-Carrots

Aniña nodded with a smile and pulled out a book from the shelf and walked over to Sequoia, pulling some of the covers back to her side, "Right then, story, story, story…. found one!" She took a breath before starting.

"Before our world was created, there were eight deities, all corresponding to either one of the four elements, air, water, earth, fire or the seasons, spring, summer, autumn and winter. With their combined power, they gave life to our universe, giving it the warmth it needed yet also the cold.

As time progressed, the deities spent more time together, learning about their strengths and weaknesses and summer spent more time with winter. Even though they were polar opposites, they learned to love each other from a far but never touching. The slightest touch from summer would melt away her love, winter.

Centuries later, summer found a spell to put a damper on her heat, dulling the summer in our world just so she could touch winter at least once. They knew the spell wouldn't last long but it was everything they had ever dreamed over for years. Even though it didn't last long, they were happy and content that they had held each other at least once.

They loved each other and always will, even though they cannot be together."

Sequoia let the words wash over her and she was asleep before she could even get sad about SUmmer and Winter and how they could never be together. Her dreams were soft and friendly, and undisturbed by visions of death.
