“M-My number? Oh here.” Elide quickly pulled out her phone and brought up her number and showed it to Phoebe.
“M-My number? Oh here.” Elide quickly pulled out her phone and brought up her number and showed it to Phoebe.
Phoebe entered it in her phone, sending Elide a 'Hiya'. "That's me.", she said, pointing to the notification that had just popped up on her screen. "Let's go!"
“I have no clue where we’re going so lead the way.” Elide’s smile grew a little as she quickly created a new contact in her phone before putting it away.
"Alright." They left the school, crossing the field. "It's about a ten minute's commute.", Phoebe informed her, catching sight of Josh at the end of the field. "Josh!!", she called, waving.
“I-Is that your boyfriend?” Elide asked, a twang of jealousy hit her in the chest and she didn’t know why.
"Who, Josh?" Phoebe laughed. "Nah, he's gay af." Josh jogged up to them, grinning. He was relatively tall, slightly chubby, with permanently red cheeks and messy brown hair that was shorter at the sides. Despite the heat, he wore a pastel pink hoodie. "Hey, Phoebe. And you must be Elide?"
Elide nodded and smiled up at him, “That’s me. And you’re Josh, then?”
Josh nodded, his smile friendly. “That’s me. Where’d you pick her up?”, he asked, directing the question jokingly to Elide, referring to Phoebe. Phoebe rolled her eyes. “Very funny.”
Elide smiled, “I met her this morning. I was taking some photos before school and took her photo, that’s all.” She shrugged a shoulder and nudged Phoebe with her elbow gently.
Phoebe nudged her back, smiling. “You guys ready?” Josh nodded. “Let’s go.”
Elide nodded, “You guys are gonna have to lead.” She said, rubbing st her arm a little awkwardly.
Phoebe grabbed hold of Elide’s arm as they walked to the bus stop. “Careful, when the bus comes a bunch of people are going to want to get on so you’re going to have to jump on as soon as you can or you won’t make it before the doors close.” They pushed their way to the front of the crown as the bus pulled in.
As soon as the doors opened, Elide jumped on like Phoebe said and grabbed a set of seats for all three of them before anyone else could grab them.
"Awesome!" Josh grinned. "We haven't gotten actual seats in forever, thanks!"
“No problem. I’ve seen busses worse then this in England.” Elide shrugged a shoulder with a small smile.
They sat down, chatting comfortably. "Are you taking any AP courses?", Phoebe asked. "Josh might be in one of your classes." Josh leaned back in his seat, ruffling his hair slightly, which made Phoebe laugh and lean over to tug the sleeve of his sweater up his hand so that he had cutesy sweater paws.
Elide giggled a little and shook her head, “No, I’m not. Boring I know.” She leaned back in the chair a little, running a hand through her hair.
“Not at all!”, Phoebe protested, her eyes following the movements of Elide’s hand. “AP isn’t really anything fancy.”
Elide sighed and nodded, “Yeah, I guess you’re right.”
The bus pulled into the stop, and they got up. “Alright everyone hold on to eachother or you’ll get left behind on the bus!”, Phoebe called, grabbing hold of Elide with one arm and Josh with the other.
Elide giggled a little, “Yes Ma’am.” She joked, keeping hold of Phoebe.
Josh rolled his eyes as they got off together. "She's paranoid; got left behind once and has never let me forget it." Phoebe swatted at him, leading Elide around the corner and across the street to what appeared to be a plaza of shops. "Are you guys in the mood for Starbucks?" Josh clucked his tongue jokingly, shaking his head. "So basic, tsk tsk."
“I’ve never actually had Starbucks before…” Elide admitted quietly, “Is that bad? I feel like that’s bad…”
Both Phoebe and Josh's eyes widened. "Really? Do they not have that in England?", Phoebe asked curiously. "And obviously it's not bad, it's sort of… North American culture, It's like not knowing Bill Nye the Science Guy.", Josh explained. "It's very mainstream, but even I've eaten from it, and I'm about as far from mainstream as it gets."
“They do have Starbucks in England, yes but Doncaster doesn’t. I nearly went to one when I was in London but I was too busy and haven’t seen one since.” Elide shrugged a shoulder and put a hand in her pocket.
Josh gestured towards the Starbucks in front of them. "Welcome to overpriced coffee and delicious English muffins, then." They entered the cozy coffee shop, making straight for the cashier.
“Any recommendations?” Elide asked Phoebe, looking up at her slightly before her eyes went to scan the board with all the options.
"Mocha's are always good, they make nice peach iced tea… don't go for the Blossoming Rooibos, it's disgusting. They have egg and ham pita-thingies and wraps for meals, plus little fruit cups and a bunch of sweets. Try the muffins?"
Elide blinked a few times, “You talk too fast.” She said, before settling on what she wanted, “I think I’ll just have the caramel hot chocolate with a blueberry muffin.”
"That's all you're going to eat for lunch? And sorry I talk a lot."
Josh chuckled, stage-whispering to Elide. "That's an understatement.
