Oh nice profile pic!
yeah sure, good idea
thanks, I just sort of went hunting on Pinterest for a picture that looked like Isobel
Cool beans
So do you wanna start or shall I?
could you, if that's alright?
I gtg but I'll be back as soon as possible
Gasping, Alice stumbled into the public subway bathroom. With trembling hands, she stared into the mirror, adjusting her hair. She hunched her shoulders and stared down into the sink, rocking back and forth. A trembling sob escaped her throat. She turned on the water: a thin, cold trickle of water fell into the basin.
Five minutes later, she exited the subway looking clean and collected. Straightening her blue skirt, she pasted a smile on her face and went into the coffee shop. Another carbon copy of an old routine.

No problem. Also, I have an idea for Alice's character development but it'll make her very close to a full on lunatic, just to check that's alright with you?
Isobel stood in front of a large oval mirror, tugging on the ends of the floppy black bow keeping her hair out of her face. She checked the time: 7:30 am, almost late by her standards. Whistling for Eddie, she took his leash from its usual spot and securely fastened it to the dog's collar.
She had a strict schedule to keep her life from spiralling out of order, and the third task after eating breakfast and getting dressed was to walk her dog. It was one of her unusually free days, classes didn't start until after noon, so after passing by the café she frequented at, she decided that she would bring her books and notes to read and study until it was time for her to get back on campus.
It was a brisk day, which prompted Isobel to wrap her black scarf a little more securely around her neck as she steered Eddie around a group of pedestrians. The door to the café opened and shut somewhere behind her, bringing on an odd feeling of unsettlement. She brushed it off, continuing her walk and trying to convince herself that she was not, in fact, being watched.

that sounds great!
Alice was settled behind the bar at the cash register, and had just finished serving an older gentleman when the student usual walked past with her dog. Alice allowed herself a moment of distraction to watch her stalk past the cafe window towards the grassy area. A cautious smile appeared on Alice's lined face. What a pretty girl.
She tapped Mike on the shoulder, the signal to tell him to take her post for a minute, and went to the window. She watched as the student readjusted her scarf and kept on walking towards the university. The student looked behind her quickly, and Alice quickly retreated back to her post.
(wait is Isobel in the cafe now?)
By the time Isobel arrived back at her flat to drop Eddie off and grab her books, she had completely forgotten about her earlier unsettlement, and was cheerfully humming while she went through her binders and notes. Selecting a few to study from and pulling Jane Eyre from her bookshelf, she adjusted her black knee-length skirt, locked the door to her flat and made her way back to the coffee shop.
(wait is Isobel in the cafe now?)
no, she just walked by it and made a mental note to come back after she finished walking her dog, sorry if I was unclear
(got it)
(gtg dinner, shouldn't be long)
(kk)
Alice was focused on the latte she was making when boiling milk started pouring from the machine. She stepped back, a shiver rippling through her body. She pushed past Mike, giving him sharp "Help me!" as she walked past him, grabbed a sponge from the sink at the other end of the bar and sprinted back to the machine. It was fine. There was no milk, no spillage, no problem. She tightened her fist on the sponge until the feel of her nails digging into her palm brought her back down. She held her breath and gently settled the sponge down on top of the machine, took the latte she'd made and, smiling, handed it to the woman.
(OK, so her hallucinations will be in italic so I don't confuse myself or you)
(gotcha)
(hallucinations are so fun to write)
Isobel gently pushed the door of the café open, smiling at the familiar jingle of the bell. Once inside, she slipped her coat off her shoulders, leaving it hanging loosely off her elbows, and took her place at the end of the line. She glanced at the menu, reminding herself not to get anything too large, as she'd just eaten breakfast. The hot cocoa with dark chocolate looks good…, she thought to herself, not being able to resist the temptation of one of her favourite foods.
(lol she's a sucker for dark chocolate)
(mmhhm I know where she's coming from)
Alice looked up from her work. The student had just walked in. She was looking up at the menu, a slight smile playing on her lips. Alice found herself smiling as well. She wrapped a croissant up in paper for the boy in front of her and the student was next. Alice looked her in the eye: nice eyes, as well.
"Hello. What can I get you?"
The girl looked at her. "Fuck off. I'm straight."
Alice's smile morphed into an expression of unaltered hurt and she looked down. "Sorry about that."
(same tho)
Isobel blinked in confusion at the barista. "Sorry about what? Are you alright?", she said in concern, glancing around to see if anyone had said anything. No one was paying any attention to either of them, however, which only served to perplex her further. The barista was one that she'd seen often during her time as a student, but had never really spoken to past the usual thank yous and polite orders of coffee.
Alice blinked. "I… um, sorry. I didn't catch that?" She tucked her hands into her apron pockets and look straight at the girl, biting down on her lip. She had stunning eyes.
Alice blinked again.
Isobel's brows drew together in concern. "You apologized to me, but neither of us said anything. Are you alright?", she repeated gently, shifting the strap of her messenger bag higher onto her shoulder. A strand of dark hair fell in front of her eyes, having been pulled free of the ribbon holding it back on her walk here, which she flicked away with a slender finger.
Alice followed the movement of the girl's finger as she flicked her hair out of her face. She then refocused on what she was saying.
"Oh! No, that's just… yeah, no, that's just… it's just lack of sleep. I'm Alice." She gave her a unconvincing smile. "What can I get you?"
Isobel frowned slightly, but decided not to push in case she made her uncomfortable.
"Could I please have a hot cocoa with dark chocolate and no cream, please? And two small cinnamon rolls?"
Absentmindedly adjusting the collar of her white blouse, she shifted on her feet. She was concerned for the girl, Alice, but she also knew that it wasn't any of her business or her job, so she let it go.
"For here or take away?" Her hands automatically entered the food into the cash register. She rocked from side to side, avoiding the girl's gaze.
"For here, please." Isobel tucked the stray lock of hair behind her ear when it fell back across her line of vision. Knowing that Alice would need her name to write on her order, she parted her lips to speak again. "I'm Isobel, spelt I-S-O-B-E-L."
Alice stopped moving for almost full minute. Then, finally, "Isobel. Lovely name." She looked at her fleetingly then turned away to make the cocoa.
(I have to go to bed now. See you tomorrow?)
(yeah sure, goodnight)
Isobel's eyebrows drew together once more. The girl was clearly not alright, but she was hesitant to ask lest she intrude or step over some social boundary. "Thank you. Yours too." She decided to stay silent on the matter, for now.
Alice gave her a nod. "You can go to the far counter to pay. Your drink will be ready in a couple minutes." She turned back the machine, breathing deeply. Calm down, come on. Keep sane. She shook her head, straightened and walked back to Isobel. "Here you go. Sorry about that."
