"OK I'll choose first," Natalie said as they sat down around the campfire that Peter had set up. Astrid had her guitar and Connor had grabbed the keyboard. "Love songs." Natalie did eenie meenie miney moe and ended on Astrid. By 'accident'.
Damien gave a half smile and looked over at Astrid, “Th-That’s an easy topic.”
"Yeah, it is. This is actually my own song," Astrid said as she started to play a song on her guitar.
Damien nodded and leaned backwards a little as he listened to Astrid play.
"The wheels are spinning in my head
I'm stumbling with every step
I feel that beating in my chest
Can you hear it?
The words are tangled up inside
Emotions trapped within my mind
Do I show my heart or do I hide?
Can you see it?"
Damien did love listening to Astrid play, she had a talent for it.
"Am I crazy, or maybe
This might be something real?
Under the surface and nerves and the logic
Do you feel what I feel?
There's something 'bout the two of us
There's no denying, there's no denying
I'm hypnotized, it's such a rush
Don't want to hide it, don't want to hide it
Each breath, I'm trying to keep my cool
Each step, I don't know what to do
All the consequence is in the truth
If you only knew."
While Astrid was singing, Damien pulled out a small notebook and pencil and began to draw her.
"Can't spend forever holding back
The light is shining through the cracks
There's magic here behind our mask
Can you feel it?
Am I crazy, or maybe
This might be something real?
Under the surface and nerves and the logic
Do you feel what I feel?
There's something 'bout the two of us
There's no denying, there's no denying
I'm hypnotized, it's such a rush
Don't want to hide it, don't want to hide it
Each breath, I'm trying to keep my cool
Each step, I don't know what to do
All the consequence is in the truth
If you only knew
If you only knew."
Damien smiled softly as he listened and drew, feeling… happy for the first time in a long time.
"The wheels are spinning in my head
There's something 'bout the two of us
There's no denying, there's no denying
I'm hypnotized, it's such a rush
Don't want to hide it, don't want to hide it
Each breath, I'm trying to keep my cool
Each step, I don't know what to do
All the consequence is in the truth
If you only knew
If you only knew."
Damien held up the notebook and smiled at it before returning his attention to Astrid.
Astrid finished on an instrumental, and it was almost possible to see her blush in the light of the fire.
“Th-That was amazing, Astrid.” Damien said, smiling a little at her.
"Th-thanks," Astrid replied, blushing furiously.
“So um… what, what’s next?” Damien asked.
"Natalie!" Astrid yelled.
"Alright. Music me brother."
“I-I say you do… you do something from the eighty’s.” Damien shrugged a shoulder.
"How about from the 70's?" Natalie teased as the music played. "Can anybody find me somebody to love?
Each morning I get up I die a little
Can barely stand on my feet
(take a look at yourself)
Take a look in the mirror and cry
Lord, what you're doing to me."
Damien smiled a little, loving the song choice.
"I have spent all my years in believing you
But I just can't get no relief, Lord!
Somebody, somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?
I work hard (he works hard) every day of my life
I work 'til I ache my bones
At the end (at the end of the day) I take home my hard-earned pay all on my own."
Damien slowly stood from his seat and made his way and sat next to Astrid.
Astrid blushed as Damien sat next to her. "I work hard (he works hard) every day of my life
I work 'til I ache my bones
At the end (at the end of the day) I take home my hard-earned pay all on my own
I get down (down) on my knees (knees)
And I start to pray (praise the Lord)
'Til the tears run down from my eyes
Lord, somebody, somebody (please)
Can anybody find me somebody to love?"
Damien placed an arm behind him and closer to Astrid, leaning slightly towards her.
Astrid started to get shivers down her spine but tried to ignore them. "(he works hard) everyday (everyday)
I try, and I try, and I try
But everybody wants to put me down
They say I'm goin' crazy
They say I got a lot of water in my brain
I got no common sense
I got nobody left to believe in
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh, Lord
Somebody, somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?
(Can anybody find me someone to love)"
Damien let out a sigh through his nose and kept glancing at Astrid out the corner of his eye, admiring her.
"Got no feel, I got no rhythm
I just keep losing my beat (you just keep losing and losing)
I'm OK, I'm alright (he's alright, he's alright)
I ain't gonna face no defeat
I just gotta get out of this prison cell
One day (someday) I'm gonna be free, Lord!
Find me somebody to love [repeat]
Finish it off, Astrid!"
"Can anybody find me somebody to love?" Astrid sang, hitting a perfect high note on the 'me'.
Damien smiled at Astrid, “Beautiful…”
Astrid blushed as red as a tomato. "Thank you," She said nervously.
“Your um… your c-cute when your embarrassed.” Damien said.
