Serotonin - Is a monoamine neurotransmitter. Helps with emotion, memory, has a "feel good effect". Low levels are associated with depression, not understood which causes another. Came before melatonin, helps regulate sleep. Linked with various diseases (irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), heart disease, and osteoporosis). Plays important role in body functions. Appetite, digestion, sex, bone health, and sleep. Causes mental disorders such as anxiety, OCD and its variables, PTSD, various phobias and epilepsy.

Norepinephrine - Main use is to mobilize body for movement. Is the least active during sleep. The main hormone in "flight and fight" response. Increases arousal and alertness, vigilance, and formation for memory. Increases restlessness and anxiety.

Dopamine - Helps regulate attention, learning, movement, and emotional responses. Allows us to see rewards and move towards them. A heavy part in addiction.
Lack of Dopamine causes Parkinsons Disease. Used in "L-Dopa", which spurs production of Dopamine. Implicated in schizophrenia and ADHD, the role isn't known. Certain kind of Dopamine receptor causes risk-taking.

GABA - (gamma-aminobutyric acid) An inhibitory neurotransmitter that's widely distributed among neurons in the cortex.
Controls movement, and posture, motor skills, vision, and regulates anxiety.
