I widened my eyes in surprise at Lupus’s affection. I could only remember family and close friends who had ever slept so comfortably against me. It was strange for a wolf I barely knew to be so kind and I appreciated it. All my life, I had been scorned because of my scars or because others were jealous. It felt good to have kindness pour through those cracks.
( happy easter everyone )
(Yeah, happy Easter to you too!)
(Happy Easter ^^ and I think it's @Solas's turn?)
8n the morning Sofie awoke first again and poked everyone awake. “Let’s get a move on, we have the whole day so if you want something to eat, you can go whenever. Just don’t get lost.”
Lupus yawned and looked around drowsily. It was warm and comfortable in the fox den, and he didn't want to move.
Adolfa stretched and tried to find a body of water nearby. She found a small lake and splashed in it, "Ok, should we get going?" she asked after shaking water off her white fur.
I went outside and stretched. I grabbed the berries I had gotten the day before and ate them all.
Lupus slowly followed the others outside, yawning again. He started to drink some water from the river, but fell into it. His head popped up out of the water a moment later, coughing a bit.
I carefully dragged Lupus out of the water and giggled. “You ok? Careful, don’t fall in again.”
"Yeah, f-fine." Lupus shook out his fur and stood next to Sofie, looking very fluffy and still very wet.
I giggled a little more. He looked like a sea otter!
At least he was wide awake now. Lupus looked around a bit, occasionally shaking out his fur again and shivering.
“Are you ready to get moving?” I said after I made sure Lupus was okay.
Lupus nodded. "Where are we going, again?"
"Ohhhh, okay. Um, why are we going to the waterfall?" He cocked his head to the side.
“For fun. And…. because I’ve heard that the good mythical creatures roam there and some even say the waterfall itself is magical but I doubt it.”
"Ooooh! Magic! What kind of magic?" Lupus wagged his tail cheerfully.
“Healing and prophecies and stuff.”
"That's cool. Do you think I'm in a prophecy?"
“Maybe. I know I am-I mean… never mind.”
They can’t know. It will attract… them.
Lupus didn't seem to notice, and just continued trotting cheerfully beside Sofie.
It didn’t take much time to follow the stream to a large pool where the waterfall splashed into the clear blue liquid. Small yet deep puddles of water were scattered around the pool, as clear as glass.
Lupus touched a puddle with one paw. He sniffed the water, which smelled faintly fruity.
Rainbows danced everywhere and I felt myself fading. The magic reached towards me and pulled my mind towards its twirling colors. I stepped forward, water shining on my fur. I shook my head. What just happened? The waterfall seemed to enchant those in its presence, drawing them into its glistening waters.
All of a sudden, the waterfall was beating on Lupus's head. He had walked right under it without noticing. The force of it knocked him down, and he couldn't breathe with the water on his face like that. He struggled to pull himself backwards, spluttering.
Sofie grabbed Lupus and dragged him away from the tumbling waterfall. “It’s enchanting us! Just tell yourself it isn’t real. I spotted something between the rocks that the waterfall covers. It looks like a cave just large enough for us to fit into. Maybe we should investigate?”
