I guess I'll start.

Kano walked back inside of the ball, nodding at the guards and ignoring all the stares that came with his green flower crown. He noticed the princesses talking to a man. Ignoring his curiosity, Kano walked to the snack table and debated whether he should have cranberry juice or blackberry juice.

Arianna boredly swirled the liquid inside her glass. (Wait was it Arianna, I forgot her name. ._. If it isn’t Arianna, excuse me. But if it is, .. well keep on going.)

Thayer walked up to Kano. “A drink, sir?” She asked.

Kano jumped back, surprised. "Um, no, I suppose not. I'm fine, really." he adjusted the flower crown on his head and smiled at the person who'd offered him a drink.

“Lovely crown, sir,” Thayer complimented.

"Thank you." Kano touched the crown self-consciously, "I bought it just now."

//oh sorry, didn't realize we were waiting on me

"May I ask from where, sir?"

"A girl, from outside the palace. They're selling all sorts of stuff out there." Kano laughed, "They're having their own festival."

"It sounds lovely out there, sir."

"You don't have to call me sir. I'm just a palace guard." Kano smiled and then offered his hand, "Would you like to dance with me?"

"I'd love to, s-" they cut themself off, accepting his hand. "I'm Thayer, what should I call you?"

Kano bowed, "My name is Kano. Hello Thayer."

She curtsied. "It's lovely to meet you, Kano."

Kano kissed the back of Thayer's hand. "It's lovely to meet you as well."

Kano led her to the dance floor and placed his arms around her back. Noticing Thayer's lost expression, "You put your hands on my shoulders and then we sort of sway."

"Thank you," they said, following his instructions. "As a maid, I don't dance often."

//sorry for any confusion - their pronouns are they/them/their I just keep forgetting

"Me neither. My shift is off, so, yeah." Kano moved his head to the music. "I don't really work at the palace. There was just a shortage of guards, so here I am."

"How long will you stay?" She asked, imitating the other dancing ladies.

"Until the ball ends. Then I have to get back to my king." Kano pulled them a bit closer, "I wish I didn't have to go. King Bastian gives me the creeps."

They smiled, almost laughing. "Become a guard here, then."

"I can't. My family is debt to him." his brow creased, "I have to pay off the debt."

Their face fell. "I'm sorry about that. How long?"

"Years. Maybe until I'm old and dead." Kano laughed, "But it's okay. I'm fine with it."
