“Thanks.”, Barry said gratefully, taking the box from her. “D’you have some sort of spoon? Sorry.”
"I'll get you a bowl and spoon," Kasey chuckled, walking back to the fridge and opening a cupboard to do just that. With them in hand, she sat back on the bed and passed them off to Barry.
“Thanks.” Barry began eagerly spooning the cereal into his mouth. “God, I’m hungry.”
"Why didn't you eat lunch?" Kasey asked, laying on her back and staring up at the ceiling.
Barry shrugged. “I didn’t feel well.” The lie came smoothly, easily, as most lies did to him. He leaned back against the side of the bed.
"Well, you must be feeling better now, then, since you're eating," Kasey said, rolling over onto her stomach to look at him.
“Definitely. Thanks, Kase.” Barry wolfed down the whole bowl, wiping some stray crumbs off his mouth when he was done. He missed a few, which stuck to the corner of his mouth. Setting the bowl down, his finger found the crow tattoo on his collarbone again. Many people had asked about it, but he’d only shaken his head and looked away.
Kasey resisted the urge to wipe the crumbs off his mouth and rested her chin in her hands.
"Is there a story behind that?" she asked gently, speaking about the tattoo.
Barry froze momentarily, forefinger hovering over the image of the small black crow. After a beat of silence, he looked away tensely, a muscle working in his jaw. “It’s just a tattoo.” His voice was rough, this was the only subject he couldn’t lie smoothly about. It just hurt too much. He’d replied similarly when she’d asked about the ring he wore tied to a cord around his neck, hidden under his shirt.
Kasey frowned, knowing he wasn't telling the truth but also that he would tell her when he was ready. If that time ever came…
"Okay," she sighed, not wanting to push him.
Afraid he had offended her, Barry tried to think of something to say. “I’m pretty sure Caleb’s girlfriend is going to spend the night in our dorm today, kill me now.” He put on a fake by convincing groan, referencing his roommate and (the roommate’s) girlfriend. That much was true though, she was staying over. “I’m seriously thinking of camping out in the hallway.”
"Well…" Kasey started, chewing on her lip in thought. She blushed as she offered, though it was completely innocent, "You could sleep here. There's room for you on the floor."
Barry paused to consider her offer, pretending that his heart was not, in fact, pounding furiously at the thought. The tips of his ears went pink, but other than that, his face was a mask of calm. “Thanks, but would your roommate be cool with it?”
Kasey shrugged. "She went to visit her family this weekend, so I don't think she'll be home at all."
He grinned up at her, running a hand through his hair. “In that case, sure. Thanks, Kase.”
"It's no problem. Anything for a friend," Kasey said softly, smiling at him.
A friend. I think you just got 'friend-zoned'., Barry told himself. Up your game, you idiot. Still, he smiled back. "Okay so I'm thinking movie night? Or binge-watch-a-show-night?"
"Have you ever seen Agents of SHIELD?" Kasey asked with a grin.
Barry shook his head. “Is that the one you won’t stop pestering me about?”, he teased, poking her shoulder.
(Did I mention I'm at a party and might not respond?)
Kasey laughed and pushed his hand away. "It might be…"
(No, but have fun!)
Barry rolled his eyes jokingly, grinning broadly. “Fine, I'll subject myself to the torture of a show that could never be as good as The Flash, but if I die of boredom, it’s on you.” He made a fake choking sound and collapsed to the floor, holding out a hand like he was reaching for something. “Tell my mother I love her….” Ha, as if. Obviously, he didn’t say that out loud.
(Thanks! We're at Caribou, lol.)
Kasey snorted and swung her legs off the bed, poking him in the side with her toe.
"Dramatic much?" she chuckled.
“Hey, that tickles!” Barry rolled away, laughing. “You may think it’s dramatic now, but will you still think so when you’re sobbing over my coffin?” He clapped his hands over his heart, making a hilariously over-theatric face.
Kasey chuckled and poked him again. "If you die, you better come back to life so that I can murder you for leaving me."
(hiya! how are you?)
For leaving me… Barry wished that those words meant more than just leaving her in this world. "Yes, m'lady." He saluted playfully, rolling away again. The tiny black heart tattoo below his ear pulsed hot pink for a second.
(Hey! I'm good. Out to coffee with my friends again. Lol.
Do you think they should know about each other's powers?)
Kasey laughed again and shook her head. "You're ridiculous."
(sure)
(ooh sounds fun!)
He grinned up at her from the floor. "Adorably ridiculous.", he corrected, the look in his eyes more than just a bit hopeful.
"Sure, 'adorably ridiculous,'" Kasey agreed, using her fingers to make air quotes.
Barry's grin broadened. "I think I'm adorable. Do you think I'm adorable?" The heart tattoo flushed pink again.
