Afriel reached out and wrapped her arms around him. "You'll learn again. I know you will, I know you can."
Afriel reached out and wrapped her arms around him. "You'll learn again. I know you will, I know you can."
Zackary wrapped his arms around her neck, heaved himself up and leaned close into her. He leaned his face into the crook of her neck, sobbing. He had missed her so much, and this realization… didn’t help at all.
Afriel- though scared to hug him to tight- held him as close as possible. "I'm so sorry." She whispered over and over again.
Zackary inhaled deeply and squeezed her closer. He whispered hoarsely, “I missed you so much.”
"I missed you too." Afriel didn't know when, but she'd started crying too. "Don't ever do that again."
Zackary’s breath caught in his throat when she started to cry. He thought he had a break, but her crying brough him into a prespective of what he did. He squeezed her closer and inhaled shakily through tears.
Afriel let out a shaky breath. "This wasn't something that happens to powerful demons was it?" Her voice was still low and shaky, but she did want to know.
Zackary inhaled softly. He shook his head. “It usually happens to Rising Demons.”
"Are you- dose that mean?" Afriel pulled back just enough so she could see his eyes.
Zackary ducked his head so his hair covered his face. “I think I’m becoming a Rising Demon.”
"Oh. Hey that's not that bad, right?" Afriel tried to find his eyes. "Everything will be alright."
Zackary shook his head slowly. “No it won’t. I’m broken. I can’t fly anymore.”
"You'll learn. Don't you remember the first time you tried to fly? Its always hard the first few times." Afriel let a small smile come to her lips. "Everything's going to turn out okay."
Zackary leaned his head onto her neck and he shook his head again, slowly. “I’ve been trying and trying for so long. It doesn’t work anymore…”
"It will work. Trust me." Afriels voice faded as she spoke, turning softer and softer. She held him close and let her fingers dance through his hair.
Zackary half-closed his eyes. He felt safe in her embrace. He momentarily forgot about everything and just gave a tiny nod in response.
"Why don't we get you back home? Or-" Afriel thought of before how she couldn't go long carrying him.
Zackary shifted slightly against her, opening his eyes a little. “Or what? I can’t get home by myself.”
"I don't know." Afriel mumbled trying to think. "I could see if Eden has an ideas." Even though she didn't want to leave him again.
Zackary curled closer to her, almost on her lap, he was so close. “I don’t want you to leave me again.”
"I won't. Don't worry. I won't." Afriel squeezed her eyes shut to keep more tears from spilling over her eyes.
Zackary squeezed her tighter. “I don’t want to be alone down here. I feel so unsafe.”
"Why? Did something happen? Did some hurt you?" Afriel took on a protective tone and she narrowed her eyes.
Zackary gave a faint whine in response and snuggled closer to her, almost directly on top of her. He shifted slightly so he was on her lap and curling into her chest.
"You're fine. Everything's fine." Afriel let her chin rest on the top of his head. "Everything's going to be okay."
“I’m so glad you found me Afriel. Before the other Demons did. Did you know I was safe up there? I still can be… I’m just not safe down here. The Rising Demons are those who are in love with an Angel… it’s a sin.”
Afriel nodded her head. "Yeah but- that doesn't matter does it? It being a sin, that is." The last part was a mumble. of course it was a sin for Angels and Demons to be together, Afriel knew that. She just didn't know what happened when two where in love.
Zackary nodded slowly. “It doesn’t matter. We love each other and- wait… you love me, right?” He gazed up at her desperately.
"Yes of course I love you." Afriel met his gaze. "I love you very much. But will neutral towns be safe?"
Zackary nodded and leaned his forehead on her face. “The town we were in was probably the safest town for us to be.”
