Cameron shook his head. “No, it’s alright. You need rest. It’s best if we get there sooner.”
Cameron shook his head. “No, it’s alright. You need rest. It’s best if we get there sooner.”
"All right, then. Fine. But I still have to pull over," Lilah pointed out as she searched for a rest stop sign.
“How come?” He asked curiously, looking at her profile again.
"So you can drive," Lilah said, glancing over at him. When she noticed him watching her, she blushed and focused on the road again.
Cameron smiled when she looked at him. “We can use the bathroom and feed the dogs, too.” He didn’t look away this time, just traced her features with his eyes.
"True, true," Lilah agreed, nodding. She spotted a sign for the next rest area and turned toward it. "And it looks like that'll be soon."
Cameron nodded. “Good. Good. The dogs’ll be hungry when they wake up.”
"Yup," Lilah agreed with a yawn as they parked.
Cameron stretched and shut his eyes. “Let’s go, then!”
(Skip?)
(Sure. I'll just…)
About twenty minutes later, they were back in the Jeep with the dogs. Lilah was curled up on the passenger's seat, her back to her door as her chin rested in the hand that was braced on the glovebox. She yawned again, showing how tired she was, though she wouldn't voice it.
Cameron leaned back in the driver’s seat. It felt good to be there again; he’d always loved to drive when given the option. He turned the key which was already in the ignition and moved the stick shift. He gazed happily down at Lilah, running his hand through her hair.
“Ready to go?”
Lilah smiled tiredly at him, leaning into his hand.
"Yeah, I'm ready," she said softly.
Cameron put a hand on the wheel and rested his other on her back. He pulled out of the parking spot and back onto the road.
Lilah sighed happily as she rested her head on her arm. Closing her eyes, she drifted off slowly, glad to just be with Cameron.
Soon Cameron had come across rush-hour traffic, a few hours into his shift of driving. Thankfully he was a very patient person, so he just sat back into the seat, one hand the wheel, ready to move forward.
Lilah stirred in her sleep, though she didn't wake. Not even the sounds of rush hour could wake her at this point.
Cameron gazed down at her happily. He noticed her sleeping on an arm and reached over to the backseat to grab a pillow that he nabbed from home. He carefully moved it under her head and arms so she didn’t wake up sore.
Lilah made a faint sound, still not waking. She reached out for Cameron in her sleep, even his hand would do.
Cameron gently took her hand. “I’m here, Lilah. Just got you a pillow.” He kissed her head and leaned up again.
Lilah smiled faintly in her sleep, letting out a soft, sigh-like breath. She curled her legs up closer to herself and adjusted her position a little.
Cameron made sure he wasn’t due to move and smiled back down at her. It was going to be a long trip, but it’d be worth it if he got to live with Lilah.
The hand holding Cameron's tightened its grip, and Lilah twitched in her sleep.
Camerom gave a gentle laugh and he squeezed her hand. He kissed her head again.
“Love you,” he said this, despite knowing she was asleep.
Lilah smiled and relaxed. She sighed again, still sleeping.
Cameron kissed her head again and drove forward a little, humming to a random tune in his head.
(Skip?)
(Sure. I'll skip a bit for now, but should we skip to when they arrive?)
A few hours later, Lilah woke up and stretched a bit. Yawning, she looked out the window and saw that she had slept for quite a while. She glanced over at Cameron and gave him a sleepy smile.
"Hey. Need to switch yet?"
(Yeah! Unless you wanted to go for some fluff.)
Cameron looked at her, grinning. “Morning. And nah, we just got out of traffic onto the backroads. I’m fine.”
(Sure.
Also, can I just murder… life? Can I do that?)
Lilah smiled over at him.
"Cool. Do you want to stop and eat somewhere?" she asked.
(Life? No, unfortunately not. Why?)
Cameron leaned his head closer to hers. “If you’d like to. But we have food in the cooler that we gotta eat.”
(Because I've had a stupidly horrible day.)
"What if we stop at a rest area and have a little picnic?" Lilah suggested, pecking him on the cheek.
