His eyes grew wide as he swam as fast as he could towards shore, which was pretty fast considering he was a state swimmer in high school. It’s the only way he could afford college to become a doctor.

Moxiey caught up to him and pounced on him, pushing him under and quickly bringing him back up. She was giggling. “Got you!”
He gasped but laughed with her. He shook his head like a dog getting the water from his hair.
Moxiey squealed and turned away as water droplets whipped at her. “What are the points now?” she asked when he was done.
“2 to 1 my lead,” He paused and then nodded.
“How come I only got 1?” Moxiey pouted playfully, crossing her arms over her chest.
"I caught you and scared you, you only caught me…"
“RAWR!” Moxiey cried, then burst into giggles. “I’m not good at being scary,” she admitted through laughs.
"I can tell," he grinned, "That was adorable though, feel free to try again anytime,"
"RAWR!" she exclaimed louder, jumping on him suddenly and submerging both of them beneath the waves.
He panicked a little but found the courage to trust her and wrap his arms around her body.
She was slightly taken aback by this, especially considering how close they were. She admired him. He looked so cute underwater.
He blinked his eyes open slowly, the saltiness hurt a little but he soon adjusted enough to look at her.
She smiled and wiggled her fingers in a childish wave.
He smiled with his lips as not to let any air out. This would be a competition of him and his lungs…
Moxiey realized what she'd done and swam quickly up to the surface, bursting with apologies: "I'm sorry! I forgot you were a human for a second!"
He shook his hair off again, "It's okay, I just need more oxygen then the H2O provides me," he chuckled.
"Oh!" she exclaimed as the thought struck her. "I can make you a bubble! So you can breathe underwater!"
"A bubble huh?" he nodded, "That sounds cool but how?"
"It goes around your head. So you can breathe. Only merpeople can do it," she explained.
"We can try," He agreed.
"Okay, go under!" she commanded.
He did as asked and took a deep breath before sinking under.
"Haven't practiced this in a while," she muttered to herself once Eli was under. Carefully, she picked up her palms full of water and blew on it. At the perfect time, she ducked under the water and placed the bubble around Eli's head. "Please work…"
He took a slow deep breath and was amazed, "I can breath," he smiled.
"Yus!" Moxiey pumped her fist. "It worked!"
"Congrats!" he chuckled.
"Follow me!" she cried, swimming down and beckoning for him to follow.
He quirked an eyebrow and swam after her.
Moxiey lead him through the water until- "Ta-da! This is where I live!" she gestured to the huge underwater city that loomed before them, centralized around a giant palace.
