The response was immediate. Horrified faces and gaping mouths.

“I need help filing a case.”, she said, fists clenched.

Felix gave Vera a wicked grin and Kamè immediately pointed to him. "Felix will help."

Vera couldn’t help but grin. “Thanks. My sister and I were split up when a family adopted her from a foster home and not me, and she’s only twelve. I have to look out for her.”

Felix nodded, "I understand."
"Felix wants to be a lawyer when he's older, so he interns at….a place?" Kamè turned towards him.
Felix nodded again. "Yeah, totally, a place."

Vera raised an eyebrow, but didn’t prod. She took a bite of her cinnamon roll.

(Wanna time skip?)

Tay pulled up at Vera's house and waited at the door.

Vera ran out the front door, holding a gift bag in each hand. “Hey.”, she greeted.

"Hey!" Tay smiled and led her to the car.

The car held the smiling faces of Loilai, Kendra, Felix, and Kamè.

Vera smiled ridiculously wide, getting in. “You okay?” Her voice had undertones if concern.

"Me?" Tay asked.

“Yeah. Who else?” She sounded stressed.

"I'm fine." Tay smiled, "It's just that my parents keep..um.." he sat in the front seat, "They got angry at me today. But it's fine, really."

Vera slipped a reassuring hand over his, staying silent.

Tay started the car, "We should go."
"Yes, we should! Vera! Sit next to me!" Loilai called out.

Vera complied, smiling gratefully at Loilai. “Thanks for being so nice to me.”, she whispered.

"You're welcome." Loilai smiled and shot a smirk at the rest of them, "Did you guys hear that? I'm nice."
Kendra laughed, "Maybe Vera should see you when you're going crazy over Black Friday."

Vera laughed, determined not to make eye contact with Bridge.

(Are the twins in the car?)

(I'm going to be gone for 3/30-4/7, cuz I'm going to Disney-world. Feel free to carry on with my characters, but I might get on at night and on the mornings. Just wanted to give you a heads up.)

Well! I took my sister to voice lessons an hour ago.

Vera fiddled with her cross nervously, trying to engage in friendly conversation. “Have you guys seen A Quiet Place, the movie, yet?”
