"Well, don't worry. You won't have to prove anything this time," Lilah chuckled.
"Well, don't worry. You won't have to prove anything this time," Lilah chuckled.
Cameron chuckled too. “Mission complete. So….” They’d reached the car.
“Should I walk?”
"Um… If you want to jump in the make to clean off, you can ride," Lilah gave in with a sigh.
(the make)
"Wouldn't I get the car wet, then?" Cameron tilted his head.
(Screw autocorrect…)
"Yeah…" Lilah sighed. "But I'd rather that then you walk."
“I could jump in the lake then walk. I don’t wanna ruin the car.” Clearly Cameron was one to worry about stuff after he’s done it.
"No, no. It'll be fine," Lilah assured him, waving off his concern.
“No it won’t. I shouldn’t needlessly mess up a nice car…”
"But I don't want you to walk," Lilah argued.
Cameron shrugged off her argument. “I’ll be fine. I can walk, I don’t care.”
"But… Why?" Lilah wondered.
“I don’t want to mess up your car.” He looked at her dog-like.
"I just said it'll be fine, though," Lilah reminded him tilting her head to the side.
Cameron shook his head. “But it’s not. Your palace is only a few minutes away.”
"Yeah, by car," Lilah emphasized.
“Meh. I could run.” Cameron shrugged. “Anyway, I’d be fine!”
"Are you sure?" Lilah pressed.
“Yes. I’d be fine.” Cameron gazed at her steadily.
Lilah looked him go a moment longer, then sighed.
"If that's what you want to do…"
“I’m not saying I don’t want to ride back with you, Lilah. I just don’t want to get you in trouble.”
"It would be fine, honestly. But it's okay if you just want to walk instead," Lilah said with a half smile.
Cameron took her hand. “I don’t want to be that dumb reason you get in trouble.” He kissed her cheek gently.
Lilah sighed and squeezed his hand softly. "All right. I'll see you in a bit, then."
Cameron let her hand go and nodded. “I’ll walk you up to the car with Lily, then I’ll hop in the lake and start walking.”
"Thanks," Lilah said with a gentle smile as she started toward the car. She was surprised the dogs had been so quiet while they were talking, but they had probably been sleepy from the heat.
Cameron gently picked up Lily’s leash and led her to the car, humming in the silence. Lily scrambled sleepily, her paws going this way and that.
Lilac plodded along behind Lilah, her big paws silent on the blacktop of the road. When they reached the car, the driver took one look at Cameron and shook his head. He opened the door wordlessly, letting the princess and dogs into the car.
"I'll see you in a bit, Cam," Lilah said with a smile.
Cameron followed Lilah carefully with Lily. He averted his gaze from the driver, carefully looking at his feet.
“Yeah, see you, Lilah.”
The driver closed the door and walked around to the other side of the car. Once everyone inside was settled, he drove towards the castle. Lilah looked out her window and watched Cameron grow smaller and smaller as they drove away.
Cameron waved a little as they drove, then glanced over at the lake. A few beats of silence. He then took a fast running pace down to the side of the lake, tripped, then magestically flopped into the shimmery waters.
