Caroline nodded, "OK. Sure." She led Natalie out into the hallway. "What's wrong?" she asked carefully.
Caroline nodded, "OK. Sure." She led Natalie out into the hallway. "What's wrong?" she asked carefully.
Natalie took a deep breath and rubbed her temples. "As soon as we can get Briar and her baby out of this hospital, we should take them to my house." As Caroline started to protest, Natalie quickly explained, "My mom is a lawyer and my dad is a policeman. We could protect Bry and her baby and keep an eye on them both. And besides, my parents do this kind of thing all the time."
(I hate Briar's dad so much omg)
omg hi!
Caroline considered it. "The baby'll need a lot of extra care: medicine and nurses and such. You can handle that?"
"Of course I can." Natalie answered. "My mom also had a year or two of medical training, and so did my dad. And I have had to do this once before, if you can believe it."
Caroline smiled tiredly. "Then I completely agree. Briar will have to too, though."
Natalie sighed. "If that Bry refuses I will drag her there myself. I'm really worried about her. She doesn't seem to know how to take care of herself." Natalie admitted to Caroline.
Briar sat on the edge of her bed, shaking violently. The tears wouldn't stop flowing, and probably wouldn’t any time soon. She grabbed a thick strip of gauze and a bottle of peroxide. She lathered the gauze with the peroxide and pressed it to the wound at the back of her head. Being a trauma surgeon, she had dealt with this situation many a time, but never thought she would have to use it on herself.
She looked down. "I know, I've noticed too. She's not careful enough."
"Come on, let's go talk to her. We need to start planning. And I have a patient that will be coming home with me who needs a lot of help emotionally. Briar might take it as a good way to pass the time." Natalie told Caroline, start into head towards Briar's room.
Caroline followed Natalie into Briar's room, where she was treating her own head wound and shaking uncontrollably.
Natalie gently took the gauze from Briar and started helping her. "Briar………..we have an idea."
“Did you really think I couldn’t hear you from behind that door? I know your plan. I know I don’t take the best care of myself..but it’s the way I was raised; my family’s motto is literally ‘Walk it Off!’” Her tone became more exasperated and high-strung as time went on.
“I..I’m just so tired..”
Natalie finished fixing Briar up. "Then let us take care of you. Briar we love you and worry about you. I can keep you AND your baby safe, I promise."
Oliver finished eating, leaning back in his chair with a happy sigh. He yawned loudly. The warm sun on his face was making him drift off to sleep. Oliver looked at Dove, his eyes half lidded. "So-" He paused to yawn again. "So what do we do now?"
Dove smiled at Oliver, ignoring her screaming thoughts.
He only likes you out of pity.
Shut up!
You're so ugly that he feels sorry for you.
Shut up.
A girl as disgusting as you can't go on a date with someone like him.
Stop!
Oliver's just going to stop liking you anyway, why not stop it now and stop the heartbreak?
Please, stop.
No one likes you.
……I agree… Dove sighed and pretended that she was doing fine. "I have no idea. Maybe visit Briar?"
"Good idea." Oliver stretched and stood up lazily. He wait patiently for Dove, but noticed something off about her facial expression. Did I do something wrong? I shouldn't have let her pay! Could it have been something else too? He thought worriedly to himself.
"Yeah it is a good idea." Dove stood up and walked out of the store, praying that tomorrow would go well and wouldn't be a complete mess like all of her dates usually were. She turned towards Oliver, a smile hiding her worry, "Do you need me to open the door for you again?"
Oliver whined playfully. "I couldn't see because of my hair!" He protested, but was smiling anyways. He raced ahead to the door and quickly opened it up to prove his point.
Dove grinned, "Maybe I'll braid your hair later." she touched Oliver's hair, "It should be long enough for a French braid."
"As long as it stays out of my face." He complained, pushing it away with irritation.
"Okay." Dove walked a little bit ahead of Oliver as they walked to the hospital. "How'd you become a neonatal surgeon anyway?"
"Neonatal? That's Caroline. Babies terrify me. They're too fragile. I'm a cardiothoracic surgeon. You know, the heart and that fun stuff. I guess you could say I'm into what makes people tick." He smirked, pleased with himself for making a pun, which he thought was very clever.
"Hahahaha. Very cheesy." Dove rolled her eyes, "You could say that your pun was grating on me." she cracked up and then clicked her clicker.
"You're not supposed to outsmart me!" Oliver chuckled, secretly thrilled to hear the familiar click. It was quickly becoming one of his favorite sounds. The noise was almost like a reassurance that he was doing something right.

(Poor Oliver has no idea.)
Dove smiled and stuck out her tongue, "Bet I can beat you, not only mentally, but physically as well." she took off running towards the hospital, "Last one there's a dead bird brain!"
"Cheater!" Oliver yelled, laughing and running after her. He was forced to slow down a few minutes later, groaning. "I ate too much!" He whined, coming to a stop next to her in front of the hospital.
