"Taking out the – what trash?" he asked, suspicious at Lukie's changed demeanor and blatant lie.
"Taking out the – what trash?" he asked, suspicious at Lukie's changed demeanor and blatant lie.
Lukie grinned. “Taking the trash out, since it is my job as your personal demon. And if anyone else were to know or tell, they’d be killed immediately! Did you know that?”
A shuffle and a scared whisper sounded from the dumpster.
"No, I did not." Jasper looked at the dumpster, his eyes wide. "What kind of trash did you take out exactly?"
“Aww just the cafeteria food.” He laughed crazily at his own joke. “Let’s go home, yes?”
"I-okay . . . " Jasper decided to ignore his suspicions and enjoy Lukie's happy mood. Through the laugh had scared him. He led Lukie to his car. "So what'd you do today?"
“Followed you around. I can’t get separated from you. I was that random burst of motivation and correct answers for that Trig test you were taking, by the way.” Lukie beame proudly.
"Wait really?" That made sense. He was almost never motivated. "How did you do that?" he asked.
"Magic…" Lukie whispered mysteriously, waving his hands. "Plus, it's in my contract. I have to motivate you, protect you and live with you. And love you."
"Oh." Jasper was probably blushing. "Can I see the contract?"
"No, it's verbal. Whenever you wanted loyalty, that's what those things are. Are we going home?" Lukie grinned.
"Yeah. Yeah sure." Jasper walked to his car and got in his seat.
Lukie drifted through the door and sat down. “Do you still have that food?”
Jasper smiled and grabbed his backpack. He pulled out beef jerky and cautiously offered it to Lukie. "Is this okay?"
Lukie snatched it quickly. “Yaaaaaaaaas!” He tore it open.
Jasper smiled and started to drive home.
Lukie murdered that Slim Jim like it was a dead bird and he a cat. “Mmmm! Any more?”
Jasper reached into his bag at a stop light. "I have one more and an apple," he said, pulling them out.
Lukie snatched them both. They were both gone in three bites. “Mmmmmm!”
"Wow okay," Jasper said, laughing. "That's all I've got at the moment but I can get you more when we get to my house."
“I’m hungry, okay! Following you around was hard work!”
"Uh huh, I am sure it was," Jasper said. They pulled into Jasper's parking spot and got out of the car and went in Jasper's house. "My mom isn't home yet," Jasper explained, leading Lukie into the kitchen.
Lukie wrapped his legs around the other’s waist with a grin. “Yes. I am very hungry. There are a lot of steps.”
"Ah haha," Jasper laughed nervously, his face growing hot. "Don't you um." He cleared his throat. "Don't you float though?"
“Yeah but it’s good to get exercise.” Lukie beamed and kissed Jasper’s ear.
"Uhh ha ha yeahhh," Jasper said, not knowing what he was actually saying.
Lukie relaxed into Jasper’s back, his belly brushing it as he walked. “So, what food do you have?”
"Well, I uh have lunch meat, more of the beef jerky and . . . " Jasper opened the pantry. "Oh yeah. A really big bag of almonds. And more apples."
“Mmmmmmmm! ALMONDSSSSS!” Lukie stretched and grabbed the huge bag.
"Aallright, go to town. My mom and I both don't like almonds." He looked down in confusion. "I don't know why we even have that. . . . But it's good to know you like them. If my mom asks I'll just tell her I found a new love for almonds."
Lukie shoved his face into the bag and underwent a splurge of almond goodness. He was too busy cronching to notice.
