"They won't mind," Moxiey insisted. Her head began to pound slightly. She paid it no mind.
"They won't mind," Moxiey insisted. Her head began to pound slightly. She paid it no mind.
"Moxiey they love you. You can have a future without me."
"No I can't," she argued. Something rose in the back of her mind. An agonized scream. She flinched a little and put her hands over her ears without thinking.
Grayson pulled her up into a sitting position and put his hands on hers. "What's wrong?"
Moxiey's breathing became sharp and clipped. She looked at Grayson, her eyes full of panic. The scream came again. Realization slapped Moxiey across the face. "Rose…" she whispered. More screams joined Rose's. Her sisters'. Her mother's. Her father's. She squeezed her eyes shut tight and curled into a ball, whimpering.
"Moxiey? Moxiey?!" Grayson picked her up and carried her downstairs. He continued carrying her down to the beach, which wasn't far and set her down on the rocks. "Moxiey?.."
Moxiey was trembling. She looked out across the water blankly. Suddenly, she scrambled to her feet, throwing up sand, and ran into the water. She dove beneath the waves and thrashed, trying to swim with her legs, but she couldn't figure out how. Her head popped up and whipped around wildly. Her hair stuck messily to her face. "Grayson!"
(Hi! I'm going to stalk this!)
(Coolio! ;D)
(yeeyyeye)
Grayson dove into the water and picked her up. "I'm sorry Moxiey, you made a mistake. I wasn't worth it."
"I have to get to them," she demanded, throwing herself back towards the water.
Grayson held her tightly. "Tell me how you got your legs."
"No time! I have to help them!" Moxiey cried, kicking her legs and pushing at his arms.
“MOXIEY! Tell me what you did!” He growled.
She froze, her wide eyes looking afraid. "I made a deal," she whispered.
“With who? Where?”
"With Diara. In her cavern."
“Point me towards it.”
"I don't know from here," Moxiey replied. A new round of screams filled her head. She managed to ignore them until one wail broke above the rest. Moxiey paled, finding the strength to break free of Grayson's arms. "Brenna!" she shrieked, forcing her way through the waves.
“Moxiey!!” He dives after her and pulled her out of the water. “I will go get your family. Stay. Here.” He turned away.
"No!" Moxiey demanded with tears in her eyes.
“YES.” He demanded, taking a deep breath and diving under the surface.
Moxiey sobbed and watched him go. Suddenly, just as Grayson completely disappeared from her sight, something grabbed her legs and pulled her down. She didn't so much as have a chance to scream.
Grayson saw the mermaid city in the distance and swam quicker, his air supply decreasing rapidly.
Moxiey couldn't breathe… her lungs felt tight… something still had her leg in a particularly tight grip.
Grayson turned to make sure Moxiey wasn’t following him. He thought he saw a quick flash of her hair go behind a rock but if it wasn’t her he was just wasting time.
Everything was blurry. She tried to see what had her leg. A stream of bubbles erupted from her mouth and everything went black…
Grayson continued down to the castle, following the same path he and Moxiey had taken earlier. He saw black spots around his eyes and swam faster.
Diara was in the courtyard, alone. She saw Grayson swimming towards the castle and she grinned wickedly. She snapped her fingers and the current swept him back towards the surface. "I was expecting you later," she murmured.
Grayson felt himself get pushed backwards and cried out, choking with lack of oxygen. He used his last ounce of energy to swim back to the surface.
