“What the hell was that?! Why were you touching my shorts?”

"Uh… I'm sorry," she whispered. "I just wanted to touch a human. I never have before."

“You’ve never..but..aren’t you a human..?” He was very confused, especially since her tail was out of his range of vision.

Moxiey cringed internally. She slowly shook her head no.

Grayson peered over the rock and gasped when he saw Moxiey’s tail. “Holy fuck..” He stared up at her in shock. “Y-you have..a..you’re a mermaid?”

Moxiey nodded. She kept her eyes on his. Stay calm… stay calm… "Yup…"

Grayson’s expression slowly changed from shock to happiness. “That’s so AwsOme!” He swam over to her and inspected her tail.

Moxiey was a bit startled at first, but she slowly moved her tail closer to him, allowing him a better look. "You- You're not… afraid or anything?"

“Course not. This is really amazing.” He felt the texture and scales of her tail, all the while smiling.

It felt strange when he ran his fingers over her tail, but she was mostly okay with it. "Uh, sorry I followed you. And touched your… shorts?"

Grayson laughed a bit. “It’s okay. Humans aren’t that fascinating by the way.”

"That's not true!" Moxiey exclaimed. She tilted her head to the side, almost examining him, in a way. "Your hair is so much softer!" She demonstrated this by running her fingers through his hair boldly.

Grayson laughed again. “That might be true but humans aren’t all innocence. You’re lucky it was me and not some person wanting to capture you or something.”

Her fingers froze mid-motion. Her expression dropped. "What?"

“Yeah. They’ll capture you and do experiments on you. Stay away from humans, they’re not all nice.”

"I just can't! You're too… fascinating! And besides, you're nice," Moxiey pointed out, drawing her hand away from his hair and poking his chest with a grin.

Grayson smiled warmly then realized the sky was turning various shades of pink and orange. "It's getting late I should be getting home." He told Moxiey.

"Here, hold onto me," Moxiey instructed, looking up at the sky as she spoke. "Isn't is beautiful?" she sighed.

Grayson did as she told. "It's my favorite part of the day."

"Mine too. Hold on tight!" She exclaimed and dove beneath the surface, cutting quickly through the water.

Grayson shrieked before getting pulled underwater by Moxiey.

Moxiey laughed sweetly. She reached the rock that he'd let his things sit on and stopped, close enough so that he could walk to the shore, but she was still able to swim.

Grayson laughed and coughed as he went to the rock and grabbed his stuff. He noticed the last rays of the sun glinting off of Moxiey's hair and smiled over at her. "See you soon then?"

"Okay!" Moxiey chirped. She turned to dive back into the waves, then realized something. She turned around again and looked at him with curious eyes. "What's your name, nice human?"

"Oh, yeah. It's Grayson. How about you?" He asked.

"Moxiey," she called with a smile. Then she turned and dove into the water, flicking her tail gracefully.

Grayson grinned back until he could no longer see her. Then with a start he realized something. He started laughing. "I'm falling in love with a mermaid."

Moxiey glided through the water and sighed. "Grayson… Grayson… Grayson…" she tested on her tongue. She giggled furiously and swam off, excitedly looking forward to tomorrow.

Grayson woke up early the next morning and went to the same beach as yesterday. He sat on the rock for a while, waiting for Moxiey.

Moxiey hurried to the rock where she'd met Grayson yesterday. She broke the surface of the water, a cute smile on her face. "Hi!"
